Anyone who has visited Calpe street market on a Saturday will have experienced the narrow streets where it is held and on a hot summer day the crowds and close proximity to each other can be overwhelming .However the market has real character and is an unforgettable experience . Now stall holders are asking the regional ombudsman to work with them to find a new site . Their main concern is that the market isn´t safe .Once the stalls are set up it would be impossible for an ambulance or a fire engine to get through the streets to an emergency . There are no hydrants even though these are required by law and equally there is no evacuation plan in place in case of an emergency . They have already been in contact with the town hall and have requested to move to the outskirts of the town .The town hall had previously said that they would relocate to Avenida Europa but so far nothing has happened .
