Last month at the Europa ApĂ rtotel in Calpe on the Spanish Costa Blanca nine members of staff were injured when a lift olunged down nine floors , from floor 10 to the basement .The members of staff were carrying out cleaning duties and were all employees of Catalina Cleaning which has a cleaning contract for the hotel .All nine suffered fractures and cuts . The CCOO union is looking into the case concerning any irregularities with contracts on the part of the company .The lift only had a capacity for six people and yet it was carrying nine , so that also has to be investigated . The director of the hotel has stated that the lift only fell one floor but all of those inside have contradicted this .They have also said that the lift has been causing problems of late and that it has been out of order and also that two people had been stuck in it .The director denies this . The hotel has recently undergone a major refurbishment and has only recently re-opened its doors .Hosbec has said that they feel that the cleaning staff over stepped the limit for the lift and that is what caused the accident .The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation .
