Blackpool airport has financial problems which could force it into closing down within the next couple of weeks .This would affect flights to Alicante-Elche and also Murcia -San Javier airports . The budget airline Jet 2 runs links to the Costa Blanca from the north-west airport . The airport management have written an outline statement which indicates the serious nature of the problems they face . On August 28 they were looking for a buyer for the airport .They went on to say that they have been making a loss for quite a few years and were exploring a number of options in an attempt to secure the future of the airport . The deadline date is October 7 and if nothing has been confirmed by that time the airport authority would have no option but to close .If that happened then they suggested that the last flights would take place on October 15 . There are car parking facilities at the airport and people who are travelling would have left their vehicles there so the authority is making those vehicles accessible to their owners and not taking in any more . There were apologies from the management for the uncertainty and they suggested that people who have booked flights should contact their travel arranger . Jet 2 is currently working on contingency plans but aim to continue working out of Balckpool for as long as possible .They say that if the airport does close then they will be contacting all of their customers to make alternative arrangements .
