A new Valencia region law now means that towns such as Denia and Javea amongst others will have to pay the regional government for staging events at their own ports ! In Denia the outdoor discos which draw in large crowds plus the ” bous de mar ” fiesta , will cost Denia 4000 euros .Surely they must now question whether it is worth the trouble of staging such events at all . Javea will also be hit for holding the Harry Potter style live chess event , next weekend .In fact the mayor of Javea has likened it to being taxed for holding a party in your own home .They will also have to pay the port authority for the privilege .The mayor calls it ” unbelievable and ridiculous ” .He says that it shows a lack of support for culture and tradition .He might have added that it shows a lack of support for the building up of local economies and tourism generally . The Living Chess in Javea has been recognised as a National Festival of Tourism Interest .Sr Chulvi stated that there is no way that any local tax would ever be levied against a local group promoting tourism and culture .They have agreed to let the Valencia government know that they are far from happy about the situation .They pointed out that the Grand Prix in Valencia did not charge Bernie Ecclestone –in fact they paid him .
