Denia | Squatters In Unsold Apartments

Page 1

An apartment block in the centre of Denia on the Spanish Costa Blanca , was completed five years ago and has remained empty . Squatters have now broken down the main door and have been living there .They are facing imminent eviction . The flats were completed when the housing market collapsed and so have never been sold .Now the whole of the first and second floors and part of the third , have entire families living in them . Local residents have been aware of washing being hung out and blinds going up and down and this for the ffirst time since 2009 . Police have been surrounding the block , which is owned by a bank after being repossessed from the development company .There have been no reports of the squatters causing any trouble . They are thought to be homeless families who had lost their properties and just took matters into their own hands when they were not offered social housing .Some of the occupants have been identified and arrested but they cannot be evicted without a court order .Naturally , the society that we live in these days wants to throw them out .
