Complaints about domestic violence in Spain are on the increase by over 3%. In the first quarter of 2014 there were over 30,000 complaints odged with the police . This means that every day there are around 388 women ( and sometimes men ) who make a decision to take a huge step and go to the police to denounce their partners ´. Of all the complaints 70% were filed by the victims themselves while only 0.2% were filed by a member of the family . A report by the Observatory on Domestic Violence from abused women have increased by 1.5% . 18% were filed in the Balearic Islands , 16% in the Valencia region , 15% in Andalucia .The report also stated that 12% of women drop their allegations . In 2013 2,500 lawsuits were filed for harassment and assault .Of all the complaints 72% ended in a sentence .65% were for abuse and almost 8% for crimes against personal freedom . Data shows that those who are perpetrators of domestic violence have themselves been victims at some point in their lives , especially when they were children or have witnessed domestic abuse .An abused child statistically is more likely to become an abuser .
