The Director General of the Spanish National Police met with important figures in private and public institutions which are tied to tourism in the country . The aim of the meeting was to discuss and debate a new plan for � Safe Tourism � which has been launched for the high summer season across the country . The project involves over 11,000 officers from Citizen Safety Units of the Spanish National Police Force stationed at tourist locations across the country including the Valencia region.The operation will last until August 31 . The objective is to increase the safety of tourists and to make them feel more secure .The police will be mainly in city centres , airports , train stations and ports . There will be 5000 safety posters distributed plus 250,000 safety leaflets .They will be displayed in hotels and other tourism facilities . The police are hoping for feedback from hotels and other industries involved in tourism .60 million people visit Spain every year and it is regarded as a very safe destination .
