The Spanish National Police have arrested 16 people who are alleged to have been involved in a timeshare swindle involving 150 people and 3 million euros .Those swindled out of their money were mostly foreigners .The operation was carried out on Gran Canaria and amongst those detained is the ring leader of the gang .They were arrested as they were about to divvy up 8000 euros swindled from victims . Following the arrests four properties were searched and the police acquired a lot of documentation which could reveal the names of even more victims .They are also hoping that it will tell them more about the way in which the gang operated . Victims were usually contacted by telephone from a call centre .Once they had established that the victim owned a timeshare then they would offer to buy them out for a payment of an administration fee which had to be paid up front .Once paid then all contact stopped . The police are advising everyone not to enter into any negotiation over the telephone .People should never part with any money before they have seen and read all paperwork relating to any transaction .
