Torrevieja | New Bar Terrace Bylaw Passed

Page 1

The full council meeting in Torrevieja on the Spanish Costa Blanca has set up a new piece of legislation to cover bars and restaurants that have terraces on pavements in the town .Opposition councillors have branded the new bylaws as ” discriminatory and confusing “during the council meeting . People who have been putting up awnings and marquees outside their premises have been fined by local police for invading a public thoroughfare .This caused an uproar amongst local businesses during the summer months and many of them demanded a resolution to the problem from the town hall . After the council meeting the councillor for commerce sent out a press release which stated that the new norm will attend to and satisfy the needs of local businesses .She claimed that local traders are in favour of the measures .She said that because of the economic crisis then they had to grant greater freedoms to certain sectors that are experiencing a hard time .Sadly the press release did not clarify just what these new freedoms would be . A member of the Green Party has said that the rules will vary depending on where you are in the municipality .Nobody has expalined the divisions and people don´t understand it .There are so many exceptions to the norm within this bylaw , he went on to say . Another political party member says that they wanted a regulation which all businesses agreed with and not just a few .We want everyone to be involved and not just the people who voted PP . Elections are coming up next year and opposition parties are hoping that it is they who will oust the PP and then they will work at a more equal solution to the problem .
