In July and August this year road deaths in the Valencia region increased by 107% on last year .This is bucking the national trend . The DGT ( National Traffic Department ) have reported that 29 people died in 15 fatal road accidents .Last year at the same time 12 people died in 12 accidents . This summer 8 people were seriously injured , three more than last year .There were fewer minor injuries , three down from eight . Five of the accidents and 12 of the deaths took place in Alicante province , seven more than last summer .Overall in Spain the number of deaths fell in 9 regions of the 17 with Asturias registering no deaths at all . Across Spain 223 people lost their lives .This was 10 fewer than in July / August 2013 and the lowest figure since 1960 . It would be interesting to know the statistics behind these accidents .They say that speed kills but were there such issues involved as the use of mobile phones ( which you see all the time ) or alcohol or other drugs .There is always a reason behind the accident .
