Amrita PMKVY
Amrita PMKVY’s integrated training methodology is inspired by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Chancellor and world-renowned humanitarian, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s. Her vision for education is: “There are two kinds of education: education for living and education for life. While education for living is essential for success in the academic and economic sense, education for life equips young people with the knowledge, skills and values needed to lead an ethical, empowering and socially beneficial life.”

The Amrita-PMKVY project incorporates a unique, blended-learning approach with a focus on soft-skills, entrepreneurship, and financial digital literacy training. Assessments, monitoring, certification, and valuation is also a part of the program.
The Amrita PMKVY Centers follow a “Hub and Spoke Deployment Model to train, certify, place and empower working-age youth between the ages 18 and 35, struggling to access viable economic opportunities. The Hub of each district will manage the nearby spoke(s). Towards the objective of establishing a culture of gender equality and equal opportunity, Amrita PMKVY has reserved 50% of all seats for economically and socially disempowered women. The project plans to target over 1000 students in 6 districts throughout India over three phases.

Training of the Trainer - TTT The TTT is a crucial first step towards the goal of empowering the Trainers, Hub Managers, & Facilitators. While the management and the daily functioning of the training centers will be their primary responsibility, they are also responsible for motivating and maintaining an enthused batch of students working toward the successful completion of the Amrita-PMKVY training course.
The Train The Trainer program was organized for the PMKVY trainers at different districts before the start of the training program. The training included an orientation to Amrita PMKVY Special Projects, Amrita University, and AMMACHI Labs. From AMMACHI Labs they learned how to integrate computerized vocational education and training with Life Skills knowledge.
The TTT was organized to prepare the participants to implement AMMACHI Labs’ unique and world-recognized approach to skill training. In this approach, Life Enrichment Education is given equal importance as the vocational skills, with the aim of tangibly empowering trainees to transform learned skills into a livelihood or income generating activity.

Added Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India: “It is a matter of great pride for Odisha to get this centre which will help impart vocational training to students who were unemployable due to lack of any skill sets or degrees. The Amrita PMKVY Special Project shows great promise to help train and empower India’s youth in the skills they need to succeed.”
Bhavani Rao, Director of the Amrita PMKVY Project at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham discussed the importance of this project for the Nation, saying “Odisha’s Amrita PMKVY centre will enable socially marginalized and economically disadvantaged youth to access skill development that will be free of cost. LEE Event at Meppadi, Wayanad District Center (Waste Management & Disposal)
The Plumbing students at the Amrita PMKVY Wayanad Hub learned the importance of handwashing and received awareness of hygiene from the c-LEE course. They used their new plumbing skills to install a new pipe connection in the outside area of the center close to their dining area.
The Amrita-PMKVY project is off to an exciting start, and already so much has been accomplished. Our next steps are to continue the progress made at the centers in providing quality training, transformation, and structuring, and continuing the c-LEE classrooms.

All LEE activities are done initially in the community setting, along with an infrastructure of support and teamwork. Results from the field have shown that this is a powerful way to scale up skill development and respond to the needs of a community. Both economic and social empowerment are addressed in our two-prong approach: interweaving computerized vocational education and training (cVET) with life enrichment education (LEE). While cVET provides technical skills in competencies to enhance one’s viability in the workforce, LEE provides an all-inclusive set of skills to facilitate the integration and sustainability of the technical skills into one’s life.
