The CM-R2 is designed to allow the shooter to focus more attention on the target and less attention on the reticle. A boldly illuminated 0.5 MOA dot surrounded by a 5.0 MOA semi-circle enhance the shooter’s focus and combine precision with speed when the target is up close and personal. Hash marks on the horizontal stadia are calibrated for leading moving targets at 5, 10 and 15 mph, respectively. Vertical tic marks allow users to estimate ranges based on 18” wide targets at increasing ranges, while also providing precise holdover points for targets between 300 and 900 meters.

The GAS Match was created in 1984 by legendary small-arms expert, author and founder of what would later become the Gunsite Academy, Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920-2006). “A social event only slightly interrupted by gunfire,” the GAS Match was designed by Cooper to be a practical and realistic competitive course of fire. The only prerequisite to compete in the GAS Match is to have attended one of Gunsite’s courses lasting three or more days. The match is limited to the first 125 Gunsite alumni who apply.

Cooper worked with Steyr Arms through much of the 1990s to create his signature rifle, the Steyr Scout. With a Steyr SBS action, a lightweight cold-hammer-forged barrel chambered in .308 Win., an integral bipod, back-up iron sights, an extra magazine held beneath the butt of the polymer stock, and paired to a forward-mounted long-eye-relief scope, Cooper’s Scout was heralded as the ideal general-purpose rifle chambered in the ideal general-purpose caliber.

“This year at the GAS Match, the Steyr Scout comes ‘home’ to Gunsite,” said Jane Anne Shimizu, Gunsite Academy director of marketing. “Much of the Scout’s design criteria was hammered out right here at Gunsite, and it was through his relationship with Steyr that his ultimate rifle was created. Steyr Arms’ gracious donation of a complete Scout rifle with all the accessories and adorned with the Colonel’s logo—exactly as the very early rifles came—is a wonderful addition to this match.” The Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package, which recently became available to customers, is chambered in .308 Win., and it sets in the original “Scout Gray” stock highlighted by the “JC” crest-of arms. A 2.5X 28mm Leupold Scout scope is attached to the integral top rail via Steyr mounts. An attached Galco Ching Sling is also inscribed with the “JC” crest, as is the Boyt TAC541 soft case and the Boyt H44 hard case. The latter also boasts the Steyr Arms logo. To finish off the package, a hardbound copy of Cooper’s Art Of The Rifle is also included. The package has an MSRP of $2,975.

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission LINCOLN, Neb. --(Ammoland.com)- Good news for Nebraska grouse hunters this fall. The hunting season for this upland game species will be a month longer than in past years. Grouse hunting season opens in Nebraska on Sept. 18 and runs through Jan. 31, 2011. This aligns the season with the close of pheasant and quail seasons and allows more opportunities for late-season mixed bag hunting of all three species. Grouse may be hunted statewide, but a free special permit is required for hunting east of U.S. Highway 81 (east zone). Approximately 90 special permits remain for hunting in the east zone. They are limited to one per hunter and available on a first-come, firstserved basis. To request a special permit, call Game and Parks at (402) 471-5597, visit the Lincoln headquarters, or send a postcard to: Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Attn: Grouse Permits, P.O. Box 30370, Lincoln, NE 68503.
Nebraska Fall Turkey Season Opens Sept. 15
The postcard must include the following: name, address, date of birth, telephone number, and 2010 hunting permit number or lifetime hunting permit number. Residents ages 12 to 15 must submit a hunter education number. Those not required to purchase a hunting permit must provide documentation of such exemption. The daily bag and possession limits in the east zone are three birds. The daily bag and possession limits west of U.S. 81 (west zone) are three and 12, respectively.

We have assembled some of the best instructors in the world to provide you with pertinent courses that meet your needs.
Adult and youth hunters may shoot turkeys through Dec. 31 with either archery equipment or shotgun. “Animal protection lawyers, however, take issue with the fact that the law still classifies animals solely as property-regardless of their relationship with humans-and only allows owners to recover a loss based on market value.”
The Threat of Animal Rights Lawyers
First off, it should be pointed out that this article is featured on the website of the American Bar Association’s Journal. Yes, the American Bar Association (ABA) as in the group that by its own admission is,
SEP 09, 2010 05:28P.M. “the largest voluntary professional association in the world. With more than 400,000 members, the ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public.”
The Threat of Animal Rights Lawyers By Greg R. Lawson, USSA Director of Communications
This means that these ideas, while maybe not yet commonplace, are becoming increasingly accepted by professionals across the country. As you hopefully recall, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance was leading the charge of fighting the appointment of Cass Sunstein to the position of President Obama’s “Regulatory Czar” last year and we came very close to blocking it. We did that because, among other things, Sunstein had written approvingly of the possibility of giving animals legal rights. Clearly, he is by no means alone in entertaining the idea.
U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
That means that the seemingly absurd idea that animals should be treated legally the same as humans is no longer a joking matter. It’s being pushed hard enough that it is getting a serious look by serious people.
Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance was first formed back at the end of the 1970s to fight the anti-hunting, animal rights movement. In fact, we are really the only group in the country whose sole mission is to confront them and beat them. This is why we think it is so important to keep America’s sportsmen aware of what the animal rights movement really represents and the kind of world they would establish if they ever had the power to do it.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize where all of this could very easily head if we turn a blind eye. If an animal has legal rights comparable to those of a human, how can they ever be hunted? How can an angler ever catch a fish? Wouldn’t both be pretty obvious violations of their “legal rights?”
With that in mind, I was struck by this article I came across while rummaging around through some of my favorite websites the other night. I was struck by how scary the picture it portrays is of what the animal rights movement is really attempting to do.
Think it can’t happen? Well, it probably won’t… for awhile, but the fact that the ABA is giving the issue play means that in the future, you never really know.
Quoting from the article, That’s why the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance needs your help. We need to be able to make sure we have the resources necessary to shine a bright spotlight on these ideas so that America doesn’t wake up one day and realize their pet could sue them tomorrow.
“Some animal protection activists are pushing for laws that would extend rights and protections to animals that have been, up to now, reserved for humans.”

In November of 2009, Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. of Maine’s Federal District Court denied the injunction sought by Animal Welfare Institute and the Wildlife Alliance of Maine to stop the state’s trapping season. The groups had originally filed suit against the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in 2008, arguing that that Maine’s trapping regulations provided insufficient protection for the Canada lynx, a species listed as threatened under the ESA, and thus required the season to be stopped.

The USSAF, along with the Maine Trappers’ Association, Fur Takers of America, National Trappers’ Association, and several individual sportsmen, argued that the antis must show that Maine’s trapping practices were a threat to the Canada lynx population.

USSAF and Others Continue Defending Pro-Sportsman Court Decision
The opinion of Judge Woodcock closely followed the arguments made by the USSAF and others by requiring that plaintiffs looking for an injunction to shut down a trapping (or hunting or fishing) season prove not only the incidental take of ESA-protected species, but also “irreparable harm” to the lynx population. Judge Woodcock concluded that the take of individual members of a reasonably numerous protected species does not necessarily meet the requirement of irreparable harm. He also indicated that the take of lynx occurring in Maine foothold traps, typically catch-and-release incidents, did not constitute irreparable harm in this case. Consequently, Judge Woodcock declined the injunction and the trapping season was able to take place.
SEP 09, 2010 04:48P.M. USSAF and Others Continue Defending Pro-Sportsman Court Decision Oral Arguments Heard in Maine Trapping Case Appeal.
This decision would make it difficult for antis to shut down hunting and trapping in other states based upon the incidental take of a single animal that falls under ESA protection. The precedent is so important that the antis filed an appeal in December, 2009 seeking to reverse the decision. This prompted the USSAF and others to file a new set of legal briefs in order to defend the hard fought victory. According to Sexton, “We continue to feel confident in our case and will keep pressing ahead to be sure the ESA is not hijacked by those that want to shut down practically all sportsmen activities.”

The long-standing case prompting the hearing will have a far reaching impact by establishing whether anti-hunting groups seeking to manipulate the Endangered Species Act (ESA) will be able to block hunting and trapping seasons across the nation.

Take Me Hunting, Take Me Shooting Campaign Launched
The Take Me Hunting/Take Me Shooting campaign will prompt inactive hunters and shooters to rediscover the fun and excitement of these great pastimes and to answer a higher calling—to mentor a new generation of sportsmen and women. In this way, veteran sportsmen and women can mold their legacy by developing new ambassadors for the shooting sports, new conservationists and new supporters of the Second Amendment.
SEP 09, 2010 10:59A.M. Task Force 20-20 Launches ‘Take Me Hunting, Take Me Shooting’ Campaign with Support from NSSF
The pilot states are South Carolina, Alabama and New Jersey. “Together NSSF and state agencies will make a strong appeal to formerly active hunters and shooters and remind them how important it is to share their passion for the outdoors with a newcomer or a novice,” said Chris Dolnack, senior vice president of NSSF. “The choices in recreational activities today are abundant. A personal invitation from someone well qualified to be a mentor is one sure way to provide a safe and fun introduction to what could become a lifetime activity.” Through the use of print ads, direct mail and a hub website, www.takemehuntingandshooting.com, the Take Me Hunting/Take Me Shooting campaign will promote the winning message that mentors are sorely needed, that mentors’ hunting and shooting skills makes them well suited to provide an introduction to these activities, and that hunting and shooting can be enjoyed with families and friends.
Take Me Hunting, Take Me Shooting Campaign Launched
This strategy to build participation in hunting and shooting relies on the powerful ability of state agencies to communicate with sportsmen and women who once purchased hunting licenses but have not done so in the last several years. The approach was one of the priority actions recommended in the “Future of Hunting and the Shooting Sports—Research-based Retention and Recruitment Strategies,” a report presented at the Shooting Sports Summit in 2008. It’s also an approach that has been used by the fishing community with success. “I want to commend the National Shooting Sports Foundation for taking the lead in bringing together the states, industry and NGOs to address recruitment and retention of hunters and recreational shooters,” said John Frampton, director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
National Shooting Sports Foundation NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- Task Force 20-20, the committee formed at the NSSF Shooting Sports Summit to evaluate opportunities to grow hunting and the shooting sports, will begin testing its first initiative—a coordinated marketing effort in selected states designed to reactivate lapsed hunters and shooters.
“The funding provided through the excise taxes on hunting and shooting firearms and ammunition is the lifeblood of state fish and wildlife agencies. The future of hunting and shooting may well rest on our ability to work together to ensure that hunters and shooters remain engaged in our sports.”
The Task Force 20-20 steering committee has approved piloting the “Take Me Hunting/Take Me Shooting” campaign this fall. The National Shooting Sports Foundation, trade association for the firearms,

The campaign will be evaluated during the winter months to determine how effective its messages were in motivating shooters and hunters to go afield or to the range again. The steering committee of Task Force 20-20 also plans to launch a Models of Success program focusing on states that have programs proven to deliver an increase in participation. Such programs can be enhanced, expanded and promoted through a marketing campaign funded by NSSF. The results of these and other Task Force 20-20 initiatives will be discussed at the next NSSF Shooting Sports Summit, which is scheduled for June 2011. About NSSF The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 5,500 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s organizations and publishers. Several projects also have statewide interest. The 339-acre acquisition, called the San Antonio Valley II project, is historic habitat for an area herd of more than 200 tule elk. In 2006, RMEF and partners permanently protected 2,900 adjoining acres in danger of residential development. Today those lands are a state wildlife management area. The San Antonio Valley II project will expand that area in the future. RMEF is holding the property until the state can gather funding to reimburse RMEF and take title.

RMEF steered $95,000 in volunteer-raised funds to keep the project alive. Brownells.com Des Moines, Iowa – -(Ammoland.com)- Brownells has donated and shipped 43 cases of shotshells to the 9th Annual Klays for Kids Sporting Clays Team Challenge, scheduled for September 24, 2010, at the Coyote Valley Sporting Clays range near Morgan Hill, California. The Klays shoot is hosted by the NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter (NFL Alumni-NCC). “The Klays for Kids Sporting Clays Team Challenge is a great way to promote youth shooting sports in a safe, competitive setting. We’re glad we could help the NFL Alumni by donating ammunition for the event,” said Brownells President Pete Brownell. Gary Weaver, chairperson for the Klays event and a member of the NFL Alumni-NCC’s executive committee said, “We appreciate Brownells’ donation, and we’re happy to have them as ammunition sponsor for the event.” At the Klays event, shooters compete in teams of five, which include a celebrity captain. The tournament consist of sporting clays targets presented in a casual tournament format. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Bay Area kids’ charities, said Weaver, who is a former linebacker for the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers. “Brownells’ ammo sponsorship covers one of our big costs,” he said, “which it allows us to donate more money to the charities. It’s a generous contribution that will help a lot of kids.” For more information on the event, log on to www.nflalumninoca.org or
