announced that Team Smith & Wesson member and professional shooter Doug Koenig continued his dominance of the Masters International Shooting Championship by claiming his 12th consecutive title. With his 2010 victory, Koenig has now won the match for an unprecedented 17th time, making himself the most decorated shooter in Master’s history.

Smith & Wesson’s Doug Koenig Wins 2010 Masters International Shooting Championship

While this remarkable feat will be forever captured in the history of competitive shooting, to Koenig, his seventeenth win at the Masters was just as important as his first.

SEP 03, 2010 08:18P.M. Smith & Wesson’s Doug Koenig Wins 2010 Masters International Shooting Championship

“To be honest, I wasn’t aware this was my seventeenth title until someone told me after the match, said Koenig. “It is not that these numbers aren’t important, it’s just that I try not to focus on what happened last year or the year before. This is just the mental attitude you have to keep as a competitor in order to be successful, because any shooter will tell you that anything can happen on race day and I do mean anything.” During this year’s Masters International Championship, shooters went head-to-head competing in three separate events with a total of nine different stages of fire. Throughout the championship match, competitors shoot from various positions at target distances ranging from 25 to 200 meters. At each event the targets differ in size, shape and height, requiring shooters to make precise adjustments. Koenig attributed his winning performance to not only his mental preparation before the match but to his training and gear preparation as well. “Before each and every match, I devote myself to not only preparing mentally but to also making sure my gear is in top order”, said Koenig. “While most of my preparation has become almost second nature at this point in my career, I’ve learned it’s often the little things that matter most.”

Doug Koenig Wins Masters International Shooting Championship

According to Koenig, the courses of fire at the Masters are always challenging but it’s the unique atmosphere of the match that keeps him coming back each year. “The courses of fire at the Masters certainly blend well with my talents and abilities but it’s the unique match setting that I enjoy the most,” said Koenig. “The match directors and staff have done an outstanding job of bringing a down home feel to this competition. The environment is extremely friendly, there is lots of interaction between the competitors and the spectators, and regardless of age or discipline, the Masters presents a fabulous outlet for anyone to get out and enjoy the thrills of competitive shooting.”

Koenig’s enjoyment for the Masters is not only evident in his own attitude, but also in the actions of his son, Trevor Koenig, who competed with his father for a second year in a row. At the 2009 Masters International Shooting Championship, Trevor won the Sub-Junior Title and like his father, was able to successfully defend his title again this year.

“I am very proud of how Trevor performed during this tough competition, said Koenig. “Last year I think I was more nervous for him than I was for myself, but he took his training a step farther this year and it certainly showed. Serving as both a dad and coach can get a little tricky at times, but we’ve been able to establish a good line of communication and it was truly a remarkable experience to share our wins together.”

CSRG Automatic Rifle Model 1915

FirearmsTruth.com Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- We have all heard the stories about how bad the Chauchat automatic rifle was. That it was discarded by American and French troops alike. That it was the worst machine gun ever. That it was designed by committee and made by many different contractors, requiring hand fitting of noninterchangeable parts.

How much of this is true, and how much is myth?

Smith & Wesson’s Doug Koenig Wins 2010 Masters International Shooting Championship

The Chauchat M1915 CSRG was a refinement of the Chauchat CS M1911, which fired the French 8 X 50 via a long recoil system, like the Remington Model 8 rifle, Winchester Model 1911 shotgun, and Frommer STOP pistol. Simply described, it is a straight pull bolt action rifle mounted in a spring loaded tube, fed by a semi-circular magazine holding 20 rounds. It fired from an open bolt, when the trigger was depressed the bolt moved forward, picking up a cartridge from the magazine and firing as the bolt closed. The whole receiver, barrel, and bolt would then recoil, with the help of gas pressure, to the rearward position, where the bolt is arrested by the sear until the barrel and receiver return to battery, and on automatic mode, the bolt is released for the following round. This type of automatic rifle is prone to stoppages if it is not handled properly, and the French Military went to great lengths to train their gunners to operate their weapons in an optimum

manner.

• And Private Thomas C. Neibauer (107th Infantry) stopped an enemy advance after being wounded in both legs, using the CSRG.

On July 16, 1915, the French War Minister, M. Millerand, requested that a suitable machine rifle be adopted. General Joffre proposed an improvement of a machine rifle that was already being used on aircraft. An order for 50,000 weapons was placed, with the Gladiator automobile factory, under the direction of Paul Ribeyrolles. The machine rifle was designed by Colonel Louis Chauchat and Charles Sutter, the name M1915 CSRG being made of the first initials of Chauchat, Sutter, Ribeyrolles, Gladiator. There was not a committee that designed the weapon, but two men who worked together, dispelling one myth. The Gladiator factory produced all parts of the rifle with the exception of the wooden stock and front grip. The barrels were from reconditioned Lebel rifles, which were shortened, thus not requiring any extra production from existing arsenals. M1915 CSRG rifles were also produced by SIDARME later in the war. It has been reported by modern collectors, that parts are interchangeable between the two manufacturers.

Honour Bound, The Chauchat Machine Rifle In summation, the claim that the weapon was designed by a committee is totally false. The claim that soldiers discarded their weapons cannot be supported by period writings. The weapons made by Gladiator were not made of parts from small sub contractors. But the most important question that still remains; was the CSRG a bad weapon? I think that given that it was the first assault rifle to be fielded in great numbers, and the great number of soldiers who were awarded high honors for their exploits with this weapon speaks well for Chauchat and Sutter’s design. To disparage the weapon also disparages the men who designed it, the men and women who made it and, most of all, the men who fought bravely and successfully with it.

By July of 1916, the order for the number of M1915 CSRGs was doubled. This fact is often cited as proof that the weapon was useless, as the soldiers had discarded all of their weapons in shell craters, and they needed to be replaced. The opposite is true, the effectiveness of the weapon in trained hands was recognized, and even though there had been some flaws in the design, it was a very effective assault weapon. The magazines are often cited as being inadequate due to flimsy construction and open sides that allowed dirt and mud to enter the weapon. These are both true, a damaged magazine is one of the first things that a gunner was to check when he had a failure to feed. The magazines were manufactured to be semi-disposable. The gunner’s tool kit included the tools to check and adjust magazines before they were reloaded. If they did not pass, they were to be disposed of. No magazine produced during the First World War was impervious to mud and dirt. Period writings tell of how German soldiers had to abandon their belt fed machine guns when they became fouled with mud during battle.

For anyone interested in more information, the book Honour Bound, The Chauchat Machine Rifle by Gerard Demaison and Yves Buffetaut is a must read. Gus Bryngelson is the gun historian at FirearmsTruth.com,, a website that tracks and monitors media bias against guns and our Second Amendment rights. Visit: FirearmsTruth.com

The most telling testimony of the M1915 CSRG is in the results of the well trained men who used it. The list of French gunners who received the Croix de Guerre is long, and here is the history of three American soldiers who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for their efforts while armed with the CSRG.

SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb noted Friday morning that there has been some confusion about the two cases. SAF and NRA were joined by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the Washington Arms Collectors and five individual plaintiffs in their lawsuit, which found the city’s parks gun ban to be in violation of state law.

Firearms Training In Chicago Believe It Or Not

Below is some interesting background info on Chicago The eyes of the country have been on Chicago due to Mayor Daley and his political cohorts refusing to respect the individual’s fundamental right to keep and bear arms. Gun owners were forced to take Daley to court – all the way to the US Supreme Court to get him to live up to his oath to UPHOLD and DEFEND the Constitution.

SEP 03, 2010 04:26P.M. Firearms Training In Chicago Believe It Or Not By Executive Director Shaun Kranish

The Supreme Court declared the individual right to keep and bear arms to be a fundamental right, pre-existing to the Constitution itself, and enshrined in the Constitution to protect the individual from the federal government, state governments, and local governments. How did Daley respond? He said you can now own a pistol, but you can only have 1 usable gun in your home. Your garage, porch, and yard aren’t considered part of your home. You can own a pistol, but you can’t buy one in the city because gun stores are banned. You MUST get training, and that training MUST include live fire. Firing ranges are also banned, so you will have to travel out of the city to complete your training as well.

Ron Schultz, the only incumbent to be defeated in the Primary. Proving that “term limits” imposed by the gun voters on election day are the most satisfying form of term limits.

Forty-seven Field & Stream testers in 11 states and Providences evaluated more than 250 pieces of sporting gear in order to award the best hunting products introduced in 2010 with the “Best of the Best” distinction. Sharing the winners circle with Rinehart were top hunting manufacturers such as Ford, Yamaha and Brunton — while the Rinehart RhinoBlock was one of only four winners in the archery category, and the one and only archery target to take home the title in at least the last five years.

Team Smith & Wesson Captures Nine World Titles At 2010 Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships Field & Stream Magazine’s Best of the Best Award

SEP 03, 2010 11:38A.M.

The new Rinehart RhinoBlock Target is the industry’s first and only cube-shaped target to feature Rinehart’s patented locking insert — allowing shooters to simply replace just its core instead of purchasing an entirely new target. And, thanks to its incredible versatility, the RhinoBlock is virtually three targets in one — eliminating the need for hunters to purchase multiple practice targets.

Two sides of the cube display a textured, life-like 3-D deer target zone, one displaying outlined vital areas of a deer, and the other detailing an anatomically correct display of a deer’s organs. The other four faces of the target are comprised of Rinehart’s signature, highly visible target zones — allowing shooters to continue target practice even in low light conditions. Two of these sides consist of twelve smaller zones for consistent arrow shooting and placement, while the final two sides feature one large target zone for honing, surrounded by four smaller zones. Smith & Wesson Like all incredibly durable Rinehart Targets, the Rinehart RhinoBlock is constructed from the company’s signature solid, .self-healing’ foam, which allows it to take repeated shots from field points, broadheads or

titles in multiple divisions at the 2010 Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships in Piru, California. Capturing titles for Team Smith & Wesson were Team Captain Julie Golob, Jerry Miculek, Phil Strader, B.J. Norris, and junior shooters Rachel Crow, Molly Smith and Janae Sarabia. Outpacing all other manufacturers represented, Team Smith & Wesson completed the match with 22 podium finishes.

“I can’t say enough about the ability and class these three young ladies have brought to the team,” said Golob. “Their enthusiasm for the sport is contagious and the manner in which they present themselves truly stands out. I predict that we will be hearing a lot about these ladies in the years to come, as each is proving to be a top contender in the sport.”

The recent string of victories at the Steel Challenge now gives Smith & Wesson a current year tally of 99 championship titles in state, regional, national and world competitions. “It seemed like no matter where you looked, Team Smith & Wesson members were standing in the winner’s circle,” said Team Captain Julie Golob. “From the Iron Sight Rimfire Division to Production to Open Junior, Smith & Wesson shooters were making their presence known and posting remarkable scores. To be able to win nine world titles as a team is no small feat and it speaks highly about the talented team we have assembled and their ability to compete with everything from a Performance Center revolver to an M&P pistol.”

Steel Challenge Shooting Association The Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships were founded in 1981 with just 70 shooters competing for $20,000 in cash and prizes during the first year.

In all, Team Smith & Wesson members took home wins in seven separate divisions, surpassing last year’s impressive run. During the three-day match, Smith & Wesson team members weren’t the only ones receiving attention as the company’s diverse product line was well represented across the entire field. While it was no surprise to see Smith & Wesson revolvers used to win every revolver title, it was the M&P Pistol Series that made a huge impact on this year’s competition.

Since then, the match has grown to become one of the premier events of the season with more than 200 of the world’s fastest shooters competing for over $390,000 in cash and prizes. Governed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA), the sport of Steel Speed Shooting uses steel targets, arranged in five-target arrays, and an electronic timer to record a competitor’s time for each stage of fire.

“The M&P Pistol Series has been gaining ground in the competition circuit ever since it was introduced,” said Golob. “This year, the M&P pistol showed it was more than just a top contender. During the match, the M&P pistol was the fastest production gun in speed shooting, helping secure wins in the Production Division both Overall and in the Women’s Category. The M&P pistol was also used to claim the Ladies Limited Title. These wins demonstrate that for less than $1,000 in equipment, new shooters can compete successfully in both stock divisions against those with $2,500 to $4,000 race guns and speed rigs.”

From the Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol Series to SW1911s, Model 41s and both Pro Series and Performance Center revolvers, Smith & Wesson firearms were the top choice of competitors regardless of age or discipline. With hundreds of rounds down range, each of these firearms stood up to the rigors of competitive shooting, enabling their owners to compete with confidence.

• Production • B.J. Norris • Women’s Production • Julie Golob • Open Revolver • Jerry Miculek

As for Team Smith & Wesson, confidence was perhaps the highest with Junior Shooters Rachael Crow, Molly Smith & Janae Sabaria. While wellknown team members like Jerry Miculek, B.J. Norris and Phil Strader were posting top scores, it was these junior shooters that were rattling competitors with their amazing accuracy and confidence under pressure.

• Open Lady Revolver • Rachael Crow

FirearmsCoalition.org Manassas, VA --(Ammoland.com)- Gun rights leaders and activists from around the country will be invading San Francisco, California this month and, while there should be plenty of explosive comments and possibly some other rhetorical fireworks, no shots are expected to be fired. September 24, 25, and 26 are the dates for the 25th Annual Gun Rights Policy Conference hosted by the Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. The event is being held this year at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the San Francisco Airport and, as always, it is absolutely free to attend.

GRPC is an opportunity for those concerned with protecting (or just learning about) the right to arms to come together with leaders of the movement to network with one another and discuss strategy, tactics, and techniques. They will review what has been accomplished in recent years and set goals and objectives for the year to come. And this year they will do it all right in the “belly of the beast” in San Francisco, California, home of Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer, not to mention rabidly anti-gun Mayor (and now candidate for Lt. Governor) Gavin Newsome.

evening receptions and hospitality suites. The political or social dynamic may occasionally be uncomfortable for some, but not uncomfortable enough to hinder the collaboration and encouragement that is the hallmark of the conference. Members of the Pink Pistols like to say that “Armed Gays don’t get Bashed,” and that sentiment crosses all social, racial, and religious lines. Individual peace of mind comes from an individual piece on hand. As mentioned above, the Gun Rights Policy Conference is a free event offering attendees much more than just lectures and speeches. It is an interactive treasure-trove of expert panels, interesting presentations, and networking opportunities. Every registered attendee also receives a number of rights-related books to add to their libraries – absolutely free. With airfare costs down and a special GRPC room rate of $109 per night, a trip to San Francisco would be well worth the cost for anyone wanting to learn about and get more involved in the gun rights war.

The Second Amendment Foundation has taken the lead in coordinating and financing legal challenges to firearms laws around the country. They have brought successful suits against San Francisco’s handgun bans, New Orleans gun ban and confiscations after Hurricane Katrina, and most recently the McDonald case against Chicago before the Supreme Court which confirmed that Second Amendment protections apply to states and municipalities. Alan Gura, lead attorney in both the recent McDonald case and the landmark Supreme Court case, DC v. Heller, is expected to be in attendance to share his take on current and potential future court challenges.

About: The Firearms Coalition is a loose-knit coalition of individual Second Amendment activists, clubs and civil rights organizations. Founded by Neal Knox in 1984, the organization provides support to grassroots activists in the form of education, analysis of current issues, and with a historical perspective of the gun rights movement. While the media and pundits tend to ascribe credit or blame for all activities of the “gun lobby” to the National Rifle Association, the “gun lobby” is actually made up of numerous organizations and individuals, like AmmoLand Shooting Sports News, and others from all around the country – most of them volunteers – and all walks of life. National organizations like the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and The Firearms Coalition each have their own niche in the fight as do various state shooting associations, gun clubs, and grass roots organizations. The annual Gun Rights Policy Conference is an opportunity for leaders and activists from all of these groups to get together socially and ideologically to advance the cause.

Members of the Pink Pistols have been regulars at GRPC for years. Not stereotypical gun rights advocates, the Pink Pistols serve as more proof that concern about the right to arms transcends labels and geography. GRPC 2010 will have attendees from most of the 50 states as well as some from foreign countries. There will be Republicans, Democrats, and maybe even a few Socialist and Communist.
