SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today that Texas native Trevor Baucom, a former United States Army Chief Warrant Officer #3 (CW3) and Blackhawk helicopter pilot, has joined the ranks of Team Smith & Wesson as the Company’s first disabled veteran shooter.

Smith & Wesson Welcomes Disabled Veteran To Shooting Team
During a special ceremony in the Smith & Wesson booth at the National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Meetings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Baucom will be introduced as the newest member of the team and will discuss his plans for competing in the upcoming NRA Bianchi Cup.
APR 29, 2011 03:31P.M.
With a distinguished service record of 13 years in the United States Army, Baucom is pending a medical discharge after he was injured in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan during his fourth deployment. The injury, which occurred during a nighttime assault mission, left the Blackhawk command pilot paralyzed from the waist down.
Smith & Wesson Welcomes Disabled Veteran To Shooting Team
Once back in the United States, Baucom began his rehabilitation in Franklin, Tennessee, where he met “Shooting USA” host Jim Scoutten. From there, a friendship was formed and an idea spawned on getting Baucom introduced into the competitive shooting arena. With the help of industry partners Smith & Wesson, Safariland and Atlanta Arms & Ammo, the 31-year-old began training with the goal of taking on the courses of fire at the 2011 NRA National Action Pistol Championship, heads-up against able-bodied competitors. “It’s hard to put into words just how phenomenal this whole experience has been,” said Baucom. “The support from the industry has been overwhelming and at times I find myself still trying to grasp it all.” Blackhawk Pilot Trevor Baucom Joins Team S&W at NRA Convention.
In preparation for the NRA Bianchi Cup, Baucom has received instruction from one of the industry’s top competitive shooters, Billy Abbate with Atlanta Arms & Ammo. During the competition, Baucom will be using a Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro Series pistol that he has been training with extensively for the last month. While the NRA Bianchi Cup will be Baucom’s first competitive shooting event, the avid hunter and recreational shooter is more focused on enjoying the experience than wondering what his score will be once the match has concluded. That being said, Baucom has an intense competitive drive and is training diligently to improve his x-count with each practice sessions.

“For me, this is all about breaking down barriers,” said Baucom. “I have never been one to sit still for very long and this opportunity presents a unique challenge for me to push my abilities. I hope that my participation will lead to other wounded warriors taking an interest in competitive shooting and that more matches like the Bianchi Cup will take a look at how they can open up spots for other disabled shooters.” On Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Smith & Wesson booth (#1713), Trevor Baucom will be officially introduced as part of Team Smith & Wesson. Team Captain Julie Golob will be on site to present Baucom with his official team shirt and there will be opportunities to take photos of the newest team member and his gear. Elon University Skews Poll On Concealed Handguns
Grass Roots North Carolina for Firearms Education North Carolina --(Ammoland.com)- A poll released last week by Elon University* purports to show little public support for expanding North Carolina’s existing concealed handgun law into parks and restaurants, as proposed under House Bill 111.
Tags: Competition Shooters, Competitive Shooting News, Disabled Shooting, Shooting Teams, Smith & Wesson
However, the misleading and inaccurate phrasing of poll questions suggests that the researchers either haven’t read HB 111, or are woefully ignorant of North Carolina gun laws.

Elon University Skews Poll On Concealed Handguns
“[Do you agree/disagree with] permitting people to carry handguns in restaurants and bars.”
APR 29, 2011 03:21P.M. Facts: Elon University Skews Poll On Concealed Handguns • No pending bill would allow “people” - meaning anyone – to carry handguns in restaurants and bars. Rather, HB-111 is strictly limited to allowing concealed handgun permit holders to do so. • Individuals covered by HB 111 have been verified by their sheriff as law-abiding citizens who have proven they are trained in the law and proficient with their weapons. • These people have passed criminal background checks and had their fingerprints cleared by the FBI.

• This class of people - who number approximately 2% of North Carolinians - have proven, over the past 16 years, to be responsible, prudent, safe, and overwhelming law-abiding. • A similar question skewed results on “people” carrying concealed handguns in parks when, in reality, the parks provision too would apply only to concealed handgun permit-holders.

OMMITTED INFORMATION * The question on restaurants omits at least two major qualifying conditions: That those carrying handguns are prohibited from consuming any alcohol, and that individual restaurants have the ability to ban the carry of handguns on their premises. SAMPLING BIAS * Although the Elon poll found that 42.4% of respondents owned firearms, earlier polling of North Carolina residents found a far higher gun ownership rate of 56%,** suggesting a sampling bias against lawful gun ownership. 1. * John R. Montana Shooting Sports Association Missoula, MT --(Ammoland.com)- We lost the suppressor bill, HB 174, when the supermajority needed in the House on the vote to suspend the rules and accept a late bill from the Senate failed to achieve the required 67 votes. However, SB 124, which generally clarifies FWP-related laws clarifies that the prohibition on suppressors in the field or forest only applies “while hunting.” So, we got half a loaf for suppressors in SB 124. Permitless carry, HB 271 finally passed the Senate on Third Reading and now goes to the Governor for his signature. When our large Self Defense Bill, HB 228, was introduced in the 2009 session, it contained a permitless carry provision. That provision was lost in the legislative process. When Governor Schweitzer signed HB 228 in 2009, he commented that he wished permitless carry was still in the bill. So, we’re hopeful that the Governor will sign HB 271 from this session.

Sportsman Channel New Berlin, WI -(Ammoland.com)- The first annual Midwest Fishing & Hunting Bloggers Summit is set for July 22-24, 2011 at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd, Minn. The event is presented by Sportsman Channel and is meant for those outdoor bloggers who want to network and learn about how to hone their craft.
Arizona Hunting & Trapping Regulations 2011-12 The Arizona Game and Fish Department does not receive any of the state’s general funds to operate. Wildlife conservation and management of the state’s game animals, which also benefits many non-game species, is made possible through a user-pay, user-benefit system. Funding from the direct sale of hunting and fishing licenses, big game tags, and matching funds from the Pittman-Robertson Act, a federal excise tax that sportsmen pay on guns, ammunition and related equipment, remain the backbone of wildlife conservation in North America.
“Outdoor bloggers are becoming a strong majority in our outdoor writing community,” said Jim Braaten, founder of the Summit and outdoor blogger at Sportsman’s Blog. “We are gaining attention from corporations and product manufacturers as one of the best ways to get information out to their audience in a quick and meaningful manner. The Summit is just a way for us bloggers to network and learn from one another while dropping a line in the water at one of the best lake areas in the Midwest.”

The Summit is as much about learning and networking as it is enjoying a quick summer getaway in a famous resort town. The highlight of the weekend is a presentation by Jeanette Kozlowski of Cat5 Commerce on “How to Successfully Market Your Blog.” Ms. Kozlowski holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism. In her graduate studies, she focused primarily on researching blogging and its effect on mainstream media. Registration is $100 to secure your spot in the Summit. APR 29, 2011 12:19P.M. Anti-Gun Groups Hijack Hearing & Mislead Listeners with Phantom Amendments As Oregon government schools testify that law abiding Oregonians need to be disarmed, we were struck with a horrifying thought. These people are teaching our children.

Oregon Firearms Federation
illustrated her position by citing Columbine, Thurston High School and Virginia Tech. When asked if any of those shooters were concealed handgun license holders she admitted they were not, but the schools did not want to “wait “until a CHL holder opened fire on a class full of children. (Hey, it could happen, right?) Of course, just as every CHL holder is a potential mass murderer, every public school teacher is a potential child molester. So clearly we need to address that issue.
Salem, Oregon --(Ammoland.com)- Today’s Senate Judiciary Committee “hearing” was another display of the paranoia of the antiliberty crowd. Although the meeting was supposed to be a hearing on three good gun bills, it was, in fact, nothing more than theater arranged by, and for, the anti-gun rights, government school establishment.
Ginny Burdick demonstrated, once again, her perennially addled state by testifying that CHL holders could not be trusted in schools because they did not have the extensive training that police have. She went on to illustrate her point by citing data from the New York City Police Department which concluded that NYC cops rarely hit their targets.
In an unusual “informational meeting”, the opponents of gun rights were given a virtual monopoly on public testimony, but more, they were given information provided to no one else and the opportunity to testify at length before anyone from the pro-freedom side had a chance to respond. While limited and abbreviated testimony was taken from a few pro gun citizens, no one from OFF or NRA had a chance to testify in spite of the fact that they were “signed in” before almost everyone else.
This is an interesting argument. On the one hand, the anti-gun crowd does not want to recognize the CHLs from other states because they may not meet Oregon’s lofty training requirements. On the other hand, we cannot trust CHL holders in schools because they have such paltry training requirements.
The meeting followed a format we have never seen before. The “informational meeting” took center stage but no pro-gun people had any insights into exactly what the meeting was about. Strangely, that was not true of the people who testified on behalf of the government schools.
Of course, over and over, the anti-gun mouthpieces complained about the carnage caused by guns in schools. And over and over they were asked if any of the people who were responsible for violence in schools were CHL holders.
They repeatedly voiced their support for “amendments to HB 2797.” 2797 is the bill that clarifies lawful carry of handguns on motorcycles, ATVs and snowmobiles. The “amendments” clearly outlawed CHL holders from being on school property. Oddly, only the government school representatives seemed to have actually seen these “amendments.”
The number of problems involving CHLs according to the anti-liberty zealots? Er…uhh…oh…none. After listening to multiple representatives of the Oregon government schools testify that the most law abiding Oregonians need to be disarmed because of the acts of the most criminal Oregonians, we were struck with a horrifying thought. These people are teaching our children. There have been few more compelling arguments for homeschooling than today’s testimony.
Even one member of the committee asked what these supposed “amendments” were, since he had not seen them either. After repeated references to these amendments. the chair of the committee, Floyd Prozanski, informed the audience that “there were no amendments to any of the bills” being heard today. But even after he said that several times, more representatives of the government schools referred to the “amendments to HB 2797.”
If you are a public school teacher, you should know how you are being represented in Salem. If you are a parent with children in the public school system you should know how your children are being propagandized.
It was quite odd that numerous people who worked for the state school establishment testified in favor of amendments to a specific bill that would outlaw CHL carry on school property, but no one else saw these amendments and the Chair insisted they did not exist. Someone is not being very forthcoming.
In spite of Prozanski’s repeated denials, there would seem to be amendments to one of the gun bills to, once again, dredge up the failed efforts to ban CHL holders from being on school property. Why we are allowed to be in malls, parks and even the Capitol, but we can’t be trusted to pick up our children from school is never answered by the school union reps, the School Superintendent, or the orchestrated and delusional members of the government school monopoly.
Although we were told that the “informational meeting” would cover guns in schools, rights restoration for people with felony convictions, and “mental health issues” it was clear that the focus was on licensed carry at schools. It was also clear that the anti-gun school establishment was privy to inside information denied to everyone else.
Either the teachers’ union or the Chairman of the committee is lying about the phantom “amendments” to 2797. The hearing ended with no testimony from any member of the gun lobby. Prozanski announced that he would pick this hearing up again next Tuesday. If the deck will be stacked again then, we cannot say. It is clear however, that there is an effort to butcher the pro-gun bills that passed the House with wide margins.
The government school reps trotted out all the same paranoid cliches they have been relying on for years. School superintendent Susan Castillo testified that guns in schools were a dangerous proposition and

By combining the ranging ability of Leupold’s Special Purpose Reticle (SPR®) with the quick acquisition of the Leupold Circle Dot reticle, the CM-R2 provides the flexibility necessary on the modern battlefield or 3gun course. The CM-R2 preserves the instinctive fire capabilities of the Circle Dot for the short-range, low-magnification needs of the CQB warfighter and competitive multi-gun shooters. The CM-R2 is designed to allow the shooter to focus more attention on the target and less attention on the reticle. A boldly illuminated 0.5 MOA dot surrounded by a 5.0 MOA semi-circle enhance the shooter’s focus and combine precision with speed when the target is up close and personal. Hash marks on the horizontal stadia are calibrated for leading moving targets at 5, 10 and 15 mph, respectively. Vertical tic marks allow users to estimate ranges based on 18” wide targets at increasing ranges, while also providing precise holdover points for targets between 300 and 900 meters.
