PHOENIX, AZ --(Ammoland.com)- The lamestream media told you: The 413 killings by police nationwide that were ruled justifiable in 2009 were the most since 1994, FBI statistics show.
North Jersey ‘Bear Country’ Residents Urged To Secure Trash & Other Residential Food Sources
And the 262 killings by private individuals ruled self-defense were the most since 1997. National numbers for 2010 are not yet available. With some variations, the numbers for both categories have been trending upward since about 2000. Interestingly, the national rise in justifiable homicides has occurred as violent crime levels have dropped. The estimated U.S. violent crime level total in 2009 was 5.2 percent below the 2005 level and 7.5 percent below the 2000 level, according to the FBI. A similar trend can be seen in Virginia, where 117 people have died in justifiable killings by police and 95 by private individuals between 1990 and 2010, according to an analysis of state and federal crime statistics by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
New Jersey Fish and Game Trenton, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- The DEP is advising residents and outdoor enthusiasts in North Jersey, especially in areas regularly frequented by black bears, to strictly adhere to guidelines for eliminating or securing potential black bear food sources during the fall period when bears feed extensively to build fat layers for hibernation.
Guns were used in 94 percent of the deaths. By Mark Bowes, from the Richmond Times-Dispatch. http://tinyurl.com/3t3894u The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that: I’ve got nothing to add.
Black bears may be especially on the hunt this season for high calorie foods, such as food scraps in household trash and bird seed from outdoor bird feeders, due to localized scarcities of acorns and other tree nuts, which are an important black bear food source known as ”mast.” Mast production, especially the acorn crop, is typically cyclical, and this year’s scarcity follows two very plentiful mast years. Factors such as gypsy moth infestation, spring frost, excessive spring rain and humidity influence the natural mast production cycle.

In low mast years, such as this year, bears are more likely to exploit alternative foods, such as human trash and bird seed, to provide the calories they need to prepare for winter. Homes and campgrounds become prime potential food sources for black bears when natural foods are in short supply.
active. • When feeding birds when bears are active, suspend birdfeeders at least 10 feet off the ground. Clean up spilled seeds and shells daily. • Feed outdoor pets during daylight hours only. Immediately remove all food scraps and bowls after feeding.
The black bear population has stabilized this year in Northwest Jersey as a result of the State Comprehensive Black Bear Management Policy, which includes a mix of education, research, hunting, and non-lethal techniques. The result has been a decrease in bear-human incidents compared to 2010. But the mast shortage will increase the potential for bear-human conflicts this fall as bears may become bolder and more persistent in searching for food near homes and campgrounds.
• Clean outdoor grills thoroughly after each use. Grease and food residue can attract bears. • Do not leave food unattended while camping or picnicking. • Store all food items in coolers inside vehicles where they can not be seen or in bear-proof food storage lockers at State Park facilities
“Residents, hikers and campers can reduce the likelihood of attracting bears if they are aware of all potential food sources for bears and diligently bear-proof residences and camps by removing or properly securing any potential bear food,” said David Chanda, Director of the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
• Never feed a black bear. It is dangerous and against the law. • Report bear damage or nuisance behavior to your local police department or to the Division of Fish and Wildlife at (877) 9276337.
The bear hunt is just one facet of the State’s Comprehensive Black Bear Management Policy, which also includes public education, research, bear habitat analysis and protection, non-lethal bear management techniques, enforcement of laws, and efforts to keep human food sources, especially household trash, away from bears to limit bear-human encounters.

New Jersey residents and visitors should be aware that feeding or intentionally providing food for black bears is against the law. Violators could face a penalty of up to a $1,000 for each offense. Conservation Officers and State Park Police, along with local police departments, will be on the lookout for incidents where food is intentionally provided for black bears.

Many of those counties are in politically important states like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia – which better explains the administration’s sudden “conversion,” than does any supposed recognition that its rules are unnecessary and harmful.
Victory Is Sweet, But The EPA War Continues SEP 20, 2011 10:33A.M.
Moreover, the ozone rule was not killed; it was postponed until after the 2012 elections, to safeguard jobs: White House, administration, Democrat and SEIU jobs.
Victory Is Sweet, But The EPA War Continues Celebrate EPA’s withdrawal of job-killing ozone standards – but prepare for more onslaughts. By Paul Driessen
The administration’s mile-long regulatory freight train merely paused to shunt the ozone boxcar onto a siding, to be retrieved later. The engines and remaining cars are still roaring down the tracks, heading for a collision with a sick economy that has left 14 million Americans jobless, 9 million forced to take part-time work, 2.5 million who have given up looking for jobs, and 46 million on food stamps. Orchestrated environmentalist outrage over the delayed ozone rule may deflect attention from the rest of the freight train, and make it easier to impose hundreds of other regulations. In fact, reams of complex DoddFrank financial rules and Obamacare health sector regulations are still onboard, as are National Labor Relations Board unionizing schemes, Agriculture and Interior Department land use regulations, and many others. The Energy Department continues to lavish taxpayer dollars on expensive wind and solar projects that provide minimal energy at exorbitant cost, even after two more solar companies went bankrupt, costing Americans another $1 billion and 1,900 jobs. Solyndra alone cost US taxpayers $535 million, to create 1,100 temporary jobs at $485,000 apiece. They’re all gone now.
Victory Is Sweet, But The EPA War Continues
Citing Energy Department reports, the Washington Post reports that the $39-billion loan guarantee program, which President Obama promised would “create or save” 65,000 jobs, has instead spawned a measly 3,545 new, supposedly permanent jobs – after blowing nearly $18 billion, or $5 million per job.
AmmoLand Gun News Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Millions of Americans recently celebrated the demise of the Environmental Protection Agency’s jobkilling ground-level ozone regulations. While a toast was appropriate, we shouldn’t drink too much champagne just yet.
Green jobs? Greenback jobs is more like it – taxpayer greenbacks for Obama and cronies. Worse, by draining billions from taxpayers, consumers and productive sectors of the American economy, the administration is killing two to three traditional, sustainable jobs for each greenback job it creates.
As with the Battle of Midway and Lt. Col. James Doolittle’s Tokyo Raid in early 1942, White House action on this single EPA rule is merely a welcome victory in a long struggle. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce may have declared, “Now, at least they’re listening,” but other observers say the EPA and Obama administration are still tone deaf.
Then there is EPA, which even in this toxic environment remains the biggest single job-killing agency in government. Its ozone rulemaking is just one of dozens it has planned, finalized, or brought to the brink of sign-off and implementation.
Indeed, a major factor in the White House decision on ozone was a map showing that 85% of America’s counties would be out of compliance with the Clean Air Act if the new rules were implemented. That would mean no new construction or manufacturing projects could begin – and no jobs “created or saved” – until billions are spent to bring existing facilities into compliance with arbitrary new ozone standards.
Unable to get cap-tax-and-trade passed in Congress, EPA has its economy-killing carbon dioxide rules waiting on a railway siding, until the November elections spur a regulatory frenzy. It is still preparing coalfired power plant emission rules to control the 0.5% of mercury that actually enters America’s atmosphere from those facilities, as well as expensive regulations on heavy-duty trucks.

“Cross-state” air pollution regulations will force utilities in a few states to install billion-dollar retrofits on coal-fired power plants that EPA computer models say could (minimally) affect air quality hundreds of miles away. EPA claims 20 states affect downwind states during the May-September NOx/ozone season, but demands that Florida shoulder 79% of the national responsibility.
railway siding, EPA is ramping up its campaign to rally support for its dangerous policies. Under its “Plan EJ 2014” initiative and other programs, the agency is “leading from behind” – funneling millions of taxpayer dollars to minority, low-income and environmentalist groups that will advance EPA’s rulemaking, permitting, compliance, enforcement and other agenda items under guise of “environmental justice” and “civil rights” claims.
It claims seven states affect Houston’s air quality, but wants Florida to provide 94% of the alleged benefits for the Texas city, 800 miles away, across the sultry, largely windless summertime Gulf of Mexico – after Florida utilities already reduced their NOx emissions by two-thirds since 2003. EPA also says Texas must retrofit power plants that might affect Illinois communities 400 miles away.
The Environmental Protection Agency is setting the stage for a national disaster.
Even crazier, EPA is using outdated air pollution measurements to justify these rules. In reality, data from recent years show the supposedly impacted cities already meet national ambient air quality standards. EPA’s “maximum achievable control technologies” (MACT) rules will impact power sources in factories and refineries. Its “reciprocating ignition compression engine” (RICE) rules will curtail the availability of thousands of backup, “peaking” and emergency generators at colleges, hospitals, malls, groceries and other facilities. When storms knock out power, or heat waves strain overloaded grids, the dearth of electricity will cause brownouts, blackouts and widespread chaos, especially in hospitals. Paul Driessen
Coal ash and water quality rules will raise costs even further for nearly half of America’s power plants – and electricity users – for minimal environmental gain.
EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson insists she wants “a real conversation about protecting our health and the environment.”
For three years EPA has used global warming claims to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline project, which could create hundreds of thousands of American refinery, construction, manufacturing, financial and other jobs – and stymie Shell’s oil drilling plans in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea.
By all means, let’s have that conversation. It’s likely, however, that she and her radical allies will not enjoy it one small bit.
In every instance, EPA claims “the regulatory benefits far exceed the costs.” However, as independent natural scientist Dr. Willie Soon and other analysts have documented, the health, welfare and environmental risks and benefits have frequently been exaggerated or even fabricated.
About: AmmoLand contributor, Paul Driessen, is senior policy adviser for the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow and Congress of Racial Equality and author of Eco-Imperialism: Green power – Black death.
Worse, EPA steadfastly refuses to consider the significant adverse effects that its rules will have on human health and welfare. The cumulative weight of these rules will send energy costs skyrocketing and kill millions of additional jobs, Affordable Power Alliance co-chair Niger Innis points out.
Tags: Conservation News, Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, Paul Driessen
Poor and newly jobless families will be even less able to afford gasoline, clothing, healthcare, proper nutrition and other basic needs, Innis notes. Many will suffer increased stress, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence and crime rates. Many low income families will be unable to afford proper heating during frigid winter months or air conditioning during summer heat waves. People will die. Equally outrageous, while it may have shunted its ozone boxcar onto a

And if you don’t see what you want, they’ll build one for you – from nothing more than a block of metal. Gunsmoke has the largest and most experienced group of gunsmiths in the state.
As a right-handed shooter, his injuries have made it difficult for him to hunt with his father, the thing that will make him feel normal again. Rich boldly steps up to the challenge to build this American hero a rifle that adapts perfectly to his physical limitations and helps him feel whole again.
When the Wyatts aren’t building or selling guns, they’re shooting them. No gun leaves their shop without being test fired by the family first. They – and the one-of-a-kind and historic guns they make and sell – are featured in the all-new series AMERICAN GUNS, premiering Monday, October 10th at 10PM ET/PT.

Rich is a master firearms trainer and former police officer with more than 22 years experience in law enforcement. He is one of only six people in the world certified by Colonel Jeff Cooper, a master firearms instructor and one of the 20th century’s foremost experts on the use and history of small arms. He qualified as a pistol expert at the age of 13 and is a gifted engraver, doing all of the engraving jobs that come through Gunsmoke. He hopes to one day own the shop his father has built up. Daughter Paige is a 16-year-old high school senior and works in the shop summers and nights/weekends. But don’t let her looks fool you. She knows more about guns than most men who walk into the shop. It was used for ‘close combat’ because it was small and easily concealable. It’s no surprise it was the weapon of choice for many card cheats, thugs and prostitutes at the turn of the century. Hand Cannon - Before there were handguns, there were cannons. The Hand Cannon is the first cannon that could be held in a soldier’s hands and fired. Some argue that this is THE first firearm, the predecessor to everything we today know of as “guns.” Rich and his team build one from scratch for Rich’s friend Gary, an explosives fanatic who owns every type firearm built to blow things up…except this one. Michigan DNR Announces Diagnosis of EHD in Deer in Cass County SEP 20, 2011 09:37A.M. Michigan DNR Announces Diagnosis of EHD in Deer in Cass County
USITC Firearm And Ammunition Import Data For July 2011
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- The Department of Natural Resources today announced a diagnosis of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD), an often-fatal viral disease found in wild ruminants, in two white-tailed deer in Cass County. Two deer, a one and one-half year old male and a three and one-half year old female, recently collected from a location in the county have tested positive for the disease at the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health at Michigan State University.
National Shooting Sports Foundation NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- NSSF reports that overall U.S. imports (in units) for July in six sporting arms and ammunition categories declined 6 percent compared to July 2010.
The disease is characterized by extensive hemorrhages and is transmitted by a biting fly (midge). White-tailed deer develop signs of the illness about seven days after exposure. A constant characteristic of the disease is its sudden onset. Deer initially lose their appetite and fear of humans, grow progressively weaker, salivate excessively, develop a rapid pulse and respiration rate and finally become unconscious. Due to a high fever, the deer often are found sick or dead along or in bodies of water.
July 2011 imported units in tracked categories totaled 150,667,459, down from 160,283,689 reported in July 2010. There is no evidence that humans can contract the EHD virus. There is no known effective treatment for, or control of, EHD. Michigan first documented EHD in its white-tailed deer population in 1955. Additional die-offs attributed to EHD occurred in 1974 in several Michigan counties, and again in 2006 in Allegan County. A similar dieoff affected areas of Oakland and Macomb counties along the Clinton River in 2008, in Livingston County in 2009 and in six western Michigan counties in 2010. EHD is a common white-tailed deer disease in the southern United States. More frequent outbreaks of EHD in Michigan could be a consequence of climate changes that favor the northward spread of the biting flies that spread the disease, said Russ Mason, chief of the DNR Wildlife Division. Property owners who discover dead deer they suspect died of EHD should call the nearest DNR office to report it. The DNR Wildlife Disease Lab would like to collect more fresh specimens to test for the disease to determine its spread. Property owners are responsible for the proper disposal of unwanted carcasses. Carcasses can be buried at a sufficient depth so that body parts are not showing. Carcasses also can be disposed of at landfills that accept household solid waste.

military predecessors–such as the bolt-action Springfield 30-06 after World War I and semiautomatic rifle after World War II. The MSR follows in that tradition.
The Term “Assault Rifle” as Dangerous as Weapon Itself
To date, NSSF has had a great response to its educational initiative. The term modern sporting rifle has been widely adopted by the firearms industry and by many leading media outlets.
SEP 20, 2011 08:36A.M. The Term “Assault Rifle” as Dangerous as Weapon Itself By Bill Brassard
NSSF continues to ask that media, gun owners and others use the term modern sporting rifle when describing AR-platform rifles, but if for some reason you cannot bring yourself to do so, then we ask you to refer to these firearms by their proper model name and number. Those from the gun-owning community who label them assault rifles are damaging an industry and potentially the right to own these popular semiautomatic rifles. They will also find that those individuals who like their columns best are not their friends. About NSSF The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 6,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s organizations and publishers. National Shooting Sports Foundation NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- When pro-gun blogger Eric at Gunmart Blog wrote that he does not care for the term “modern sporting rifle,” which NSSF has been promoting to describe AR-platform rifles for the last two years, well, he’s entitled to his opinion.

However, when he wrote “perhaps we should just embrace the term ‘assault rifle,’ then he becomes an accessory to those who want to ban these sporting firearms. To underscore this point, the vehemently antigun Violence Policy Center promoted Eric’s post on its social media outlets. Good exposure for a blogger; wrong audience, though.

Strictly Lax GunLaws SEP 20, 2011 08:25A.M.
And that’s the problem. Whenever someone in the gun-owning community mistakenly calls an AR-platform rifle an assault rifle or an automatic rifle, they are assisting anti-gun organizations and lawmakers who are eager to introduce legislation to restrict ownership of these and potentially other semiautomatic firearms. (By the way, the AR stands for ArmaLite, the company that developed the rifle in the 1950s, and not assault rifle or automatic rifle. See other MSR facts.)
Strictly Lax GunLaws
Incorrect labeling of AR-style firearms by gun owners, not to mention anti-gun groups, is what caused NSSF to launch its Modern Sporting Rifle education program. NSSF has driven a broad-based and expensive communications effort to encourage gun owners to better understand AR-platform rifles–that they are not assault rifles, that they are semiautomatics firing one round with each pull of the trigger just like other semiautomatic sporting rifles and that they are in common use for target shooting and hunting. Additionally and importantly, we’ve helped those who reacted to the MSR’s military look to understand how for more than a century civilian sporting rifles have evolved from their
Gunlaws.com PHOENIX, AZ --(Ammoland.com)- The lamestream media told you: Arizona has some of the worst, most lax gun laws in the nation. The Brady Center for the Promotion of Gun Violence gave the state a zero (out of a possible 100) on its report card rating for gun laws, it’s so bad. The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that: Arizona has extremely strict gun laws, with everything remotely criminal against the law, usually several ways, with steep fines, long jail time and

vigorous prosecutors. You can be put to death in Arizona for the worst violations. What Arizona has that makes the left and the anti-rights mob so angry, is robust protection for the civil rights of any average resident to keep and bear arms, without interference with this right. The “news” media may call that lax, but to people who know, that’s called freedom, and it’s desirable. The left is increasingly the party that stands against individual freedom, with some parts of the right unfortunately not far behind. Because the “news” media sets the tone of debate for the nation, people championing freedom and individual rights are cast as destructive, and must respond defensively. The truly destructive people, like the Bradys, are portrayed as the moral high ground — precisely opposite of reality. This is what passes for an informed public. It’s no wonder the nation is in distress. People who are against gun rights and other freedoms, or think a law that protects us from government interference is a bad thing, are in essence preaching socialism and dominance of the state over freedom of the individual. This is wrong, and bad, by definition. Knowing what the Brady scores and “news” media really represents, activists in the state were pushing for a minus score.
