RIOT OF COLOURS

TARUN TAHILIANI SPRING/SUMMER 2015

Tarun Tahiliani, the Ace designer, closed the show with his artsy SS15 collection. The runway looked like a walk into a museum, and the clothes looked beautiful adaptations of miniature paintings. Works by The Singh Twins played muse to the collection. Reviving the technique of miniature painting and blending it with modern iconography, they create an unconventional interpretation of art. The show was a riot of colours and prints across his signature silhouettes, The collection also showcased wibrant bandis, bandhgalas and sherwanis in a mix of traditional and modern propensity. Concept saris, dhoti saris as well as traditional saris, flowing silk kaftans, lungi skirts, jewel tees add richness and luxury to the assortment. A vivacious colour palette of orange, red, yellow, sombre white as well as sensuous black livens up the ensembles. Resham, classic chikankari and craftsmanship maintain the signature regal elements of the brand while still reinventing it’s position as an art-inspired one. Make up was nude pinkish look with red smokey eyes which stole the show. Hair tied up in a turban head band. Another make up look was blue winged eye liner with white dots under the wing.

NIKITA YADAV

DIVAS LIVE PREETI DHAKA Few years when Preeti was travelling for work a

Did you always want to become a model? No, I wanted to become a pilot and have taken training for the same before becoming a model. I might get back to it because I am equally passionate about being a pilot as I am for modelling. Were you interested in fashion before you became a model? Yes, absolutely. How did you get into modelling? A photographer approached me and then uploaded pictures of the shoot on social media, I got amazing response and now I am here. What’s the best part about modelling? The best part about modelling is that we can choose the days we want to work. So, if we don’t want to work on a certain day, we don’t *laugh* Bad part about modelling? There’s no bad part about modelling, if I had to pick something I don’t like much is the hassle and torture with hair backstage.

photographer spotted her and assumed she was a model. He asked for her pictures and then it all started. It’s been 5 years that she is a model and is a well-recognised face in the industry. “Advertising was my main plan” was the instant reaction when I asked her about her initial plan in life. She accepts the fact that travelling is the best part that modelling has given her, she has travelled across the country as well as abroad. Switzerland,Paris, Sri Lanka, Dubai. When asked about the perks of being a model, the buddying model expressed with content that the biggest perk is that one doesn’t need to go for work literally, “I don’t need to wake up each day and go for work. I can work for 10 days a month and I am sorted.” She added, “And then I can travel, meet a lot of interesting people.” With the hectic and monotonous lifestyle, I asked her how she dealt with the fast paced life where they’re always bound to look beautiful, to which she replied, “I eat well and sleep well. Not too many night outs.”

REHA SUKHEJA

What’s that one quote you swear by? “Never say never!” You wont know what life gets you. You cant be too sure of anything actually.

Something you hear a lot at work? The work is so exciting yet the most heard sentence is “I’m so bored!” 5 things you cant leave home without? Wallet, BB cream, Lip balm, Perfume, Glasses and Smile.

Your achievements as a model? I was the first runners up for the Miss Universe India paegent. Best memory of modelling? Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra are my favourite designers. My best memory in 4 years was after my first fashion show where I walked the finale for Manish, and as I came back to the green room to change and leave, he saw me, stopped me and said that we need to work again and he told my number and that feeling was fabulous and then my second favourite memory would be when I walked for Sabyasachi after many many years of modelling.

Fitness and beauty mantra? I don’t believe in compromising. I eat everything that I want to but then I hit the gym regularly. Also, my dad’s from Haryana and my mom is British. I don’t really use make up normally, thanks to mom for my skin.

What’s your idea of a day off at work? On my day off I don’t really chill because that’s a part of my job, you meet people, you’re working and chilling alongside. So the idea of a day off would be going to animal shelter and take biscuits and feed them.

Preeti’s idea of a day off is just a good sleep till afternoon and good food, staying indoors watching movies and working out. The model hit’s the gym religiously and doesn’t compromise with food. She explains her satisfaction to where she is and the good work she does keeps her motivated. After a funny chat session, Preeti concluded that she can not leave home without kajal, lipgloss, music, sunglasses and perfume.

Did you always want to become a model? NO. “My plan was to go the normal way, graduation , post graduation , MBA, job…but then my mom silently went and put my name for Miss Universe India and they liked me and selected me to be in the pageant and then on wards I learned how to walk the ramp and started doing shows like Lakme Fashion Week and Bridal week, eventually.” Were you interested in fashion before you became a model? “Never, ever. I didn’t know head-or-tail abot fashion, I was one of those boy next door.” What’s the best part about modelling? “The best part about modelling is that you get to travel a lot, I have been to across country, Africa, Vancouver, Miami, paris, Geneva, Malaysia.”

What keeps you motivated? Because if it wasn’t for my mom right now, and for what she slightly did and what I cursed her for earlier, I wouldn’t be in this profession and I wouldn’t have even thought of being a model, would have probably gone the normal way of what everybody does. And instead of planning for the years coming in, I rather just enjoy what I have right now. I am just going with the flow and enjoying it. 5 things you can’t leave home without? Lip balm, Shades, Mint, Phone, Sunscreen Favourite beauty product? Mascara Workout/Fitness regime? I do yoga. I don’t hit the gym much. I can eat whatever I want to, but in moderation.

The garments included flowy drapes bordered with simple horizontal lines. Jumpsuits, striped and sheath clothes with crinkled pyjamas. Designer Neeta Bhargava’s garments were inspired by global warming and pollution with models walking the ramp holding their own miniature outfits in a cage.
