Who We Are and What We Do The International Consortium for Organizational Resilience is an international non-profit education and credentialing organization that provides professional development, certification, thought-leadership, career-pathing, and the latest in research and industry trends. ICOR (www.theicor.org) was created to bring together the many silos, industries, or separate bodies of knowledge that together support resiliency into one profession entitled “Organizational Resilience.” The Organizational Resilience profession is the future. It is imperative to recognize and facilitate cooperation amongst these related professions in order to build resilient individuals, organizations, and communities.

The world is becoming turbulent faster than organizations are becoming resilient.

It is no longer enough to simply talk about recovery. We must begin to integrate all of the different areas of an organization into one under the umbrella of “Organizational Resilience.”

Environment of Continuous Improvement Today, leaders in the field of organizational resilience are seeking a broader holistic spread of services and demand a far-reaching perspective that is representative of what is actually required in day-to-day operations. Dedicated professionals are aggressively seeking an environment where skills and abilities are recognized and encouraged. Professionals that are interested in working and contributing in the field of organizational resilience are faced with the challenge of non-responsive service providers that continue to have an extremely narrow focus of business continuity. This narrow focus does not address the evolving needs of business, government, non-governmental agencies, and society to improve their resiliency and viability. ICOR’s goal is to address these issues, continuously monitor the global marketplace so as to be proactive to the changes that evolve and, when necessary, react quickly to unexpected changes. ICOR is the solution to organizational resilience.

Characteristics of Resilient Communities

The Need for Resilient Communities Communities are comprised of many types of organizations – from government to business to educational institutions to faith-based and non-governmental organizations – each of which support or contribute to the health and resiliency of that community. In order for the community as a whole to be resilient and viable, each one of the organizations within that community needs to be able to provide their particular goods and / or services – no matter what challenges the world puts before them. Resilience is not something that can be achieved by any one organization or infrastructure system acting in isolation. Organizations are required to work together toward system resilience in order to build resilient communities. Effective resilience management for any one organization must look beyond that single organization and consider the resilience of other organizations that it depends on.

• Environmental stewardship: A resilient community has a healthy eco-system and habitat.

It is important to take a systems view of organizations, recognizing that there are multiple interdependencies within and between different organizations that influence their ability to respond and recover.

• Self-governing and self-sustaining government: A resilient community has a government the provides the services needed by its community members and has healthy relations with other governing bodies. • Quality of life: In a resilient community, all members of the community are equal and diversity is valued. A resilient community is safe. • Lifelong learning: In a resilient community, its members have equal access to education and knowledge repositories. • Diversified economic development: A resilient community has a diversified economy and produces enough goods to meet the needs of community members.

All organizations need to provide their goods and services under all conditions in order for a community to be resilient.

10 Disciplines That Support a Resilient Organization

ICOR University: Quality Professional Development The focus of ICOR’s professional development program is the 10 disciplines that support a resilient organization. ICOR offers courses in each of the 10 disciplines in the resiliency framework. Standards-based, vendor-neutral, and taught by leading professionals with practical experience, ICOR courses provide an educational experience that is second to none. A resilient organization must break down the many silos that exist within the organization in order to create an organization that can provide its goods and services under all conditions. Embedding the culture and systems of organizational resilience means that organizations must ensure that each of the 10 disciplines that support a resilient organization must not only be present and functional, but must be managed at a senior management level.
