Technically Complex Project Form and function The resulting form contains the cutting mechanism and fits underneath the standards office table, it can be accessed by foot to operate as a dust-bin. The display and controls are housed on a sloping surface for visibility and access. The transparent view panel helps to let the user know when the bin is full to prevent any paper jam. The rear handle helps in carrying and the groove in the blade housing helps in lifting it without coming in contact with the blades.

Pashu-raksha is an application that allows to locate livestock and access information using the mobile phone GPRS system to read radio frequency identification tag (RFID) used in identifying animals and collecting data such as date of birth, inoculations, breeding specifics etc. It will help to spot the exact location of the livestock and to send the animal data to the veterinarian for speedy diagnosis in remote villages.

Nokia USID design challenge 08 The challenge was to design an easy to use mobile application (concept and the UI) that can help in the agricultural productivity and socio-economic development of the rural farming community of India.

SURAKSHA Cotton begins to suffer from drought if its leaves stay above 82° F-27.8° C for more than 6 hours. Farmers can choose the time, temperature threshold at which they would like to receive alerts. Infrared (IR) or laser thermometers monitoring the plant temperature in the farm relay information to computer base station, cell phone modem sends text message to farmer’s cell phone. ADS can tell temperature increase in the farm directly to the farmer or fire station.

Nokia USID design challenge 08 Auto dial alarm system (ADAS) for irrigation/ drought monitoring in a farm. Crops tend to suffer from drought if the irrigation schedule is not micromanaged. Also the requirement for irrigation can vary in different areas in the same farm. If irrigation schedule is micromanaged it can lead to higher yield and good quality of crop without excessive wastage of water.

Both the doctors and the technician with limited experience or training who just need basic functionality and ease of operation can use this system easily. Immediate clinical decisions can be made faster which gives the doctor more time to focus on the patient.

The image intensifier and lithotriptor generator display and controls were redesigned after observation and study of the entire lithotripsy procedure and interacting with the experts, technicians and patients. The remote control display and controls are redesigned such that the form is more intuitive, easy to use and leaves no possibility of error due to accidental pushing of buttons.

The life cycle of Medusa Jellyfish was studied with respect to its Form, Function, Principle Taking inspiration from attributes derived such as Safety, Protection, Biological propulsion, Principle of growth, Buoyancy, Biomechanics, Bioluminescence an illuminated collapsible enclosure was developed which can be used in crowded places like expos for private viewing that is light weight, easy to install and dismantle. Focusing on the form finding and fabrication of minimal surface structures, modularity and efficiency are improved through the repetition of identical components which creates intricate surfaces with only a few types of component, with applications in architecture, product and fashion design.

The resulting temporary structure is air filled, light weight, easy to transport and assemble with minimum supports. Suspended from the ceiling the enclosure can be scaled as per requirement to create an enclosure. The LED’s illuminating the structure create an element of interest in a crowded place such as an expo. The power and data cable is clubbed with the cable suspending the structure.

simple product design D e s i g n c o n s i d e r a t i o n s • Eye goggles protect eyes from flying sparks and slag thus they should be enclosed from the sides. • Ventilation ports provided to prevent fogging up of the glasses but also prevent radiation to pass through. • Lens should be covered with clear shatter proof cover plate which can be replaced when damaged by spots of metal on it. • Adjustable head band and adjustable link between the eye caps and over the nose bridge to fit all the different users. • The surface area of the shield should not cause rash on contact area of the face. • With stand sterilization. • White paint using zinc oxide pigments provides good eye protection as it absorbs UV radiation.

The process
craft documentation ‘Aranmula Kannadi’ or bronze mirrors of Aranmula Owes its name to the village of Aranmula, a serene little village in Kerala, India. The uniqueness of this craft is in its creation, a closely guarded secret that is known to these gifted craftsmen of Aranmula. It was handed down from generation to generation and is a part of all auspicious occasions. Exquisitely crafted, the oval shaped mirror is traditionally framed in a decorative brass frame. The craft documentation was an attempt to understand the myth regarding the origin and various processes involved in the making of this enigmatic mirror.

Weaving Love, Creating “Hope” The challenge was to create a beautiful symbol of “Hope” in design of a brand new check pattern built on the Grameen check, fabric born of Bangladesh with local resources and skills. Woven in cotton, produced in the poorest region of the country with a hope of economic independence. To commemorate the birth of the first Grameen Felissimo project. This challenge was intended to bring the power of design into action, by injecting an element of excitement to the product line and thereby expanding their market outside their own village and country.

Creating checkered pattern using the shadowchecks with seamless- repeat background pattern and transforming it into the letters – HOPE , coloured in the warm shades of red to symbolize love. The alternative colourway is in shades of soothing grey and cool blue.

Consulting architect : P.G.Patki Architects, Mumbai Design concept : Callison Architects, Washington Design Concept Inorbit Mall @ Hi-Tech City Hyderabad was envisioned as a mixed use development incorporating retail, entertainment and office spaces nestled within a sloping terrain amidst a natural rocky setting facing a lake. Located at the periphery of the Mind Space Corporate Campus, the project is targeted to serve the city’s affluent districts and its burgeoning population base. The four level retail and entertainment development is strategically sited to cascade towards the lake and sits on top of four level parking deck carefully crafted within the existing contours. The project also incorporates a 8 level office building with expansive floor plates overlooking the lake.
