The presence of AMS Neve’s products in a studio is a recognition of its world-class recording status - no question. With a reputation for creating the world’s best sounding and longest-lasting analogue and digital consoles, the most discerning artists, producers and facility owners regard our products as number one for desirability on their equipment list, and have done for the past fifty years. AMS Neve is a dedicated, engineering-led and privately owned company whose continuing mission is to provide the best possible sound, capability and operational experience for the most creative people in the world – whether it be for film, recorded music, or TV and broadcast. All of our products are designed and built in England in our purpose built, integrated facility. Close supervision of the entire process by the product designers ensures the finest performance possible. Recognised by all the premier bodies in the various fields of music, TV and film, the products and their designers have been honoured by two Scientific and Engineering Academy® Awards, an Emmy™ and a Grammy™ amongst many others. We have pioneered a very large number of the ground-breaking techniques in the industry including hard disk editing, digital console technology, digital audio for film, microprocessor controlled effects units and standards such as MADI. In the transient world of short product life cycles, AMS Neve’s products stand the test of time. In addition to being designed and built to last, our long-standing policy of offering continuing upgrades to take advantage of the latest technology and techniques on many products means obsolescence is minimised. The value in your AMS Neve equipment remains long after the alternatives are in landfill. A large proportion of all the products we have ever made are still in daily use and many have achieved iconic, dearly loved and valuable status. A sound investment indeed.
the world’s best sound from Burnley, England
AMS Neve - no question
the proposition The AMS Neve DFC is undoubtedly the world’s most accomplished console and the most successful digital film mixing console of all time. Continually evolving to keep at the leading edge of what is technically possible, AMS Neve’s policy of upgradeability has protected the investment of countless facilities and benefitted from 25 years of development and polish. The result is a Digital Film Console superbly tuned to its environment – the first and always the best, engineered to last.
the prestige Installed in the world’s leading film and TV facilities – the AMS Neve DFC is the mark of a world-class studio. Regularly, the vast majority of Oscar ®-winning films are produced on the DFC by the best directors and mix engineers in the business. The design of the console has earned its very own Academy® Award for its part in advancing the art and science of motion picture sound mixing.
the sound Combining the strengths of AMS and Neve has provided the DFC with an unrivalled quality of sound – from analogue to digital, from algorithm to parameter control, from the best sample rate conversion to the best EQ and dynamic shaping. All this shines through in the final mix and in the local cinema – sound to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
the power Unmatched signal paths – the sixth generation, hugely powerful USP signal processing engine is capable of 2000 signal paths at 48kHz, and a full 1000 at 96kHz. Remember, the earliest DFCs are capable of upgrade to this capability. Three position console with 12 stem operation.
the control All mix controls are touch-sensitive, making it easy to record changes in the mix automation at any time. “Autoglide” and “Collect Touch” modes are thus enabled, are industry firsts and industry-leading. The patented Logicator™ control is intuitive, informative and good to handle.
5
Integral multi-machine control via a dedicated panel – up to three panels per console providing a complete studio solution. Encore™ 2 automation is cross-platform to all AMS Neve consoles (several thousand installations) and has evolved to a high degree of perfection in close collaboration with leading film mixers.
the flexibility The DFC engine is supremely flexible by design and allows almost unlimited configuration and adaptability. Any channel can be mono, stereo or pre-dub input. Processing can be allocated with ultimate flexibility – e.g. on mix busses; monitor returns can be re-routed internally to mix busses for multiformat mixdown.
the freedom Editor agnostic – not locked into a single workstation supplier. Work with Nuendo, ProTools, Pyramix, Reaper, etc. together or separately. No need to change your console when you change your editor. Modular and configurable to any size of surface controlling any size of engine, AMS Neve DFC will serve beautifully at all levels of studio size and budget.
the future As an example, full in-depth support has been introduced for Dolby Atmos™ as well as support for other 3D and large channel-count formats. Want to mix natively in 9.1 and 11.1? No problem. AMS Neve SuperStem™ frees all your creativity from the box and gives you the best sound around. The AMS Neve DFC continues to develop to serve you at the top of the console food chain, to be upgradeable to take advantage of new technologies and techniques as they emerge and to protect your investment like no other audio company. With a track record to match.
the definitive film mixing console

I love the sound quality of the DFC. That’s the most important thing to me on any project. The DFC has wonderful sound and great equalisers and compressors. Working on the DFC is a completely enjoyable and wonderful experience.
Andy Nelson, 20th Century Fox The DFC allows us to spend our valuable mix time making good creative decisions and less time on the technicalities of the mixing interface. The DFC is a great console. This desk lends itself to sensitive dialogue film soundtracks as well as energetic action films. The equalisers quickly allow subtle, yet detailed changes with extreme accuracy; the compressors can provide lightning attack and release times while remaining nearly transparent. The filters, with their variable slopes and types, allow for the ultimate in flexibility; permitting an aggressive or subtle touch as needed. The Encore automation package allows us to manipulate all of these components with ease, confidence, accuracy and speed.

Choosing AMS-Neve DFC was an excellent choice. DFC enables every re-recording mixer, even the most demanding, to assemble his/her own unique mixing desk and to adjust the desk set-up to requirements of a wide variety of film projects. The concept of the DFC system allows us to upgrade to new film technologies without replacing the entire mixing system. We do not need long and wide persuasion and list studio equipment to attract new clients to come to our studio. Only three words suffice – AMS Neve DFC.
