It is an honour and a privilege, as the Regional Chairperson to present to you, the official booklet of AMSA India 2020 / 21. The last ten years have seen an unprecedented period of growth and progress in our organization. In an organization where participation by all stakeholders is essential in having national strategies; every member, every leader and every partner plays a different role, but what is fascinating is that thousands of us work together towards a common goal to serve the medical fraternity & the society at large. A vision and a platform to inculcate the values of Knowledge, Action & Friendship and build strong professional relations with medical students and doctors across the nation and beyond, is what AMSA-India looks forward to offer to its family. From representing in international conferences and on platforms like WHO and United Nations to teach a child in a government school about gender sensitisation and from having a cross cultural academic exchange experience in another country to learning medicine in the most unconventional and interesting ways, we believe in a holistic approach towards our profession and thereby look forward to offer opportunities to all the stakeholders to make them a part of our bigger picture. Taking up medicine as a career is not all we look forward to, but the respect for the profession and our personal will, really demand us to use our knowledge for the betterment of medical research, literature, and the overall healthcare industry and it is due, in large part, to the dedication and due diligence of the whole organization that a real positive change with an exponential growth in the impact is made possible in the lives of ourselves and millions of people around us. Probably one may not find a specific interest at an early stage, but taking a step to explore the opportunities your own knowledge and will can allow to take up or bring in, is quite intriguing. Ideas may come from any member but execution of the same is what really matters, and moving on to the next pages would help you take a short glimpse of what kind of international and national activities, opportunities, platforms and relations we recently built together with a decade old culture, which is consistently in place, all for the good. - Priyansh Nathani [Regional Chairperson 20-21]

AMSC (conference-July/August)

International activities include the prestigious Asian Medical Students Exchange Programmes (AMSEP). Participation in the biannual International Conferences - East Asian Medical Students Conference (EAMSC): held in the month of January and the Asian Medical Students Conference (AMSC): held during the months of June-July is also an integral part of AMSA-India’s international presence.

The AMSC 2019 was conducted in Singapore with the theme: “Healthcare without borders: The problem of access”. And AMSA India’s delegation had completely stolen the limelight and outshined throughout the entire conference while securing a prize at the scientific poster competition.

Khushman Kaur Bhullar was awarded the TAG recipient of this Year.

AMSC

The Asian Medical Students' Conference is an annual conference of the Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA International) that involves the participation of hundreds of medical students from as many as 20 local chapters around the Asia-Pacific region. The objective of AMSC lies in creating a platform for a strong, global network of medical students, who as future medical practitioners, will explore and develop their academic knowledge, cultural appreciation and interpersonal skills. It comprises of three main aspects: academic, cultural and social programs. This event allows medical students from AMSA chapters to congregate, discuss and present their projects and research which were conducted based on the theme agreed upon for the conference that year. In addition, delegates can also experience different traditions and customs through the cultural events organised throughout course of the conference, and gives students an opportunity to network and build lifelong friendships with future doctors across Asia, regardless of nationality, ethnicity or race. The conference is held annually in the middle of each year (late June to July period) , and is hosted by a local AMSA chapter in one of their main cities.

EAMSC

The East Asian Medical Students’ Conference, is an annual conference hosted by various cities around East Asia. At it’s inception, it aimed to inspire delegates to become active in the amelioration of global healthcare problems through networking with other medical students from the East Asian region. More recently, it has expanded to involve delegates from all AMSA-International chapters allowing the exchange of ideas, knowledge and cultural understanding.

The EAMSC continues to inspire medical students to analyze global health issues more closely and to utilize the role of medical students in the promotion of public health. It challenges students to think beyond what is learnt at university through various academic and cultural activities which revolve around a nominated conference theme.

EAMSC 2020 The 33rd East Asian Medical Students’ Conference (2020), was recently organised and concluded at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. The conference is held every year by the Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA). More than 200 delegates from Asian countries participated from 5th to 10th of January, 2020.The conference provided both academic and cultural exposure to the International delegates. The competitions held this year were Scientific Paper Presentation, Scientific Poster Presentation, Public Poster Presentation and Clinical Case Presentation. It was judged by the honourable and highly decorated faculty of MAMC. Various academic workshops were also held, reflecting the medical education and working in India. Hospital visits were held which helped the International delegates closely observe the medical system in India and appreciate our streamlined working despite the sheer patient load.

IamWHO MUN The 1st Annual AMSA-India International Model WHO was held on the 10th and 11th of January, 2020 in Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. A WHO simulation which stands for Asian Medical Students’ Association- India International Model World Health Organisation saw participants from Thailand , Philippines, Bangladesh and various states of India like Punjab , Maharashtra, Chennai etc. Participants were allotted the role of a country’s ambassador to the WHO and tasked to work with their peers to develop resolution papers that address the theme chosen - "Global Health Ethics in Immunization". The dais patiently encouraged all new participants to speak up and even taught the decorum whenever it was lacking. With the assembly reaching an unanimous vote of 'yes' on the paper proposed, the delegates were filled with an enriching experience of the MUN way of life and left with words of thanks exchanged and 2 days full of fond memories and learning.

AMSEP

The Asian Medical Students’ Exchange Programme (AMSEP) allows members of AMSA to participate in a 5 to 10-day preclinical or clinical bilateral exchange with a chapter of their liking. The idea was first established in 2003. During the AMSEP, incoming delegates will be accompanied by a group of hosting committee members throughout their stay going through activities intrinsically holding root to AMSA’s philosophy: Knowledge, Action, and Friendship. Key academic components include workshops, keynote lectures, hospital visits, guided hands-on clinical practice, training, academic discussions, learning about the local healthcare or medical education system, etc.

AMSEP

Participating students are also expected to give back to the local community through social service activities that employ their medical knowledge. Moreover, the students will be able to experience the wondrous cultural aspects of the destination country, which includes visiting iconic landmarks, savouring local cuisines, and much more. Above all, AMSEP allows participants to form life-time, international friendships with those they meet during the exchange. Over the years, AMSEP has expanded to intercontinental exchanges in association with - the European Medical Students' Association (EMSA) and the Federation of African Medical Students' Association (FAMSA), via their exchange programmes EAMSEP and FAMSEP respectively.
