About me... Hello! I am a recent graduate of The Leicester School of Architecture and I am a strong believer in the power of architecture as a positive shift of influence on society through creative design solutions. My fascination for sustainable design, has not only inspired my passion to pursue a career in architecture, but to present answers to real-life problems. Having worked with an under privileged community, this has humbled me and driven my motivation to help people through efficient solutions.

January 2022 - Architectural Assistant - AM2 Architects Working in practice has broadened my skill-set significantly, Present despite being here for a short period of time. Work at AM2 has involved shadowing architect meetings with clients, building surveys and making design decisions. This has led to my work on several residential projects to create luxury design solutions to meet client requirements. This includes surveying and drawing the existing build on Revit, to presenting several design proposals through Sketchup and Lumion renders.

This inspirational experience involved shadowing architects at SEALAB with build and design work in a less fortunate community. Work focussed on rebuilding slum dwellings to meet basic living requirements. This later inspired my dissertation; ‘Exploring the Progression of Slum Upgrading in Ahmedabad and Comparing its Success Against Methods Used in Mumbai.’ Furthermore, as part of a studio project and working with SEALAB, I designed a kindergarten and library for the children of the community. Being fortunate to have the opportunity to work in India allowed me to appreciate the different building and design requirements when faced with harsh climate and distinct community needs.
My interest in Architecture was endorsed with this work experience where I learnt numerous skills in art and design and was able to produce a 1:50 scale model of my house.

HARMONY COMMUNE LEICESTER MUSIC COMMUNITY AND COLLEGE For my third year studio project, I have designed a self sustaining music quarter including accommodation, shops and retail and a music college for Leicester Music Society. The college aims to encourage music exploration in Leicester as well as revitalising a neglected space. The existing site is a run-down old factory site which lies beside a canal and Abbey park. This design aims to maintain a strong connection with the park as well as the industrial buildings surrounding the site.
Leicester is one of the most multicultural cities in UK and these cultures offer a huge variety of music and food to be celebrated. Research has shown that listening and playing music improves one’s mental health and reduces stress; ideal for residents of such a bustling city. The Harmony Commune will act as a therapeutic connection between the bustling city and serene park-scape.
The Harmony Commune create a space for artists, performers and music enthusiasts alike. The regenerated area provides users a space for practice, education and performance whilst being surrounded by like-minded people to create a nurturing community. An open air amphitheatre in the courtyard allows musicians to practice and perform in the day alongside smaller performing nooks around the site. Larger performances in the evening will also draw many people to the site. The project aims to achieve accessibility for all, drawing people of all genders, ethnicities and disabilities to be a part of the community. The sensory landscaping is designed to heighten all five of the senses whilst creating a continuum of nature from the park to the new complex.

Music and Nature
Nature is vital for ones mental health and well-being and has shown to increase productivity. Music has a strong association with relaxation and creativity. The Harmony Commune aims to combine these two elements bringing people together into one creative and tranquil ecosystem. The new landscaping and organic forms create a dynamic atmosphere whilst increasing social interaction within the community. The landscaping maintains a connection between the previously industrial site with the expansive green space of Abbey Park.
Sensory Environment
The stimulation of the senses; through sight, smell, touch and hearing opens the individual up to be intimately in-touch with their surroundings, easing mental stress and creating an environment perfect for creativity. One can walk through the site engaging in multiple experiences from the sounds of a local guitarist, a walk through the shallow waters, and the beautiful sights of flora and fauna. The project aims to include people of all ages and backgrounds and welcome them into the community.

LIBRARY VANSANA CHILDRENS LIBRARY AND PLAY AREA The Loving Community in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is an accumulation of families, living in poor conditions with a low source of income. Families of the community usually have at least three children, all of which go to a public school outside of the community. The school hours do not cover a full day however, and children are often left alone in the community whilst their parents leave home to support their household income.
The library aims to maintain a playful environment that is utilised throughout the day. This is demonstrated through traditional playground features such as climbing frames, slides and swings, cleverly combined within the bamboo structure. Furthermore, smaller interactive mezanine spaces create a point of interest and curiosity for the young user and maximizes a playful learning experience in the library.
A volunteer trip to Ahmedabad involved working on a project to provide a suitable space for the education of the younger generation. A childrens library will allow an area of play and creative learning. Library Vansana is a bamboo structure located on the site of a disused playground which is at the heart of The Loving Community.
Hexagonal open skylights create small pockets of light within the bamboo jungle, whilst allowing rain water into the structure during the monsoon season onto areas of vegetation. An organic experience is created for the user, maintaining a relationship with nature and the outdoors whilst the user is still sheltered from weather.

Library Vansana consists of an array of bamboo columns primariliy to reduce construction costs but also to create a fluidity within the building whilst still dividing spaces. Tall bamboo and a wide variety of plants creates an experience of nature and tranquility for the user. With inviting views into the courtyard space, an element of relaxation is founded by the opennes of the library.Density of bamboo increases according to how much privacy is needed within a space whilst pockets of vegetation aid in cooling the structure down. Individual reading spaces provide a quiet spot for a child to sit and read, slightly detaching them from the busier spaces of the library.

Ramo KINDERGARTEN THE LOVING COMMUNITY KINDERGARTEN The Ramo Kindergarten provides a more formal learning space for The Loving Community, allowing children to be in full day care during the day. The kindergarten maintains a playful relationship with the library whilst functioning as a more focused and intimate learning space. Similar to the library, bamboo borders the structure and aids in shading from direct sunlight. The ground floor is dominated by a large multifunctional assembly hall. This allows for flexible usage such as large group activities, interactive learning, sport games and perfoming arts. Bifolding bamboo shutters open up the hall to an elevated outdoor stage, where the hall can became a space for a moderately sized audience. This seamless transition between the two multifunctional spaces allows children to explore their talents and develop their cultural and social skills. Narrow openings across the facade allow light and ventilation into the hall whilst ensuring it stays cool.
The first floor of the kindergarten is an open play space. Small patches of grass and vegetation keeps the element of nature that runs through the library, into the kindergarten too. Playful spaces are seperated by bamboo and cutout interactive walls, allowing children to crawl through and playfully move around different spaces. Interactive spaces such as climbing walls and stepping stones gives the children a playground between learning. Detached from the play area, the upper floor consists of three classrooms and a rooftop garden which aids in cooling the structure. Bamboo shutters allows control of shading from direct light according to the position of the sun whilst openings on the east allow for cross ventilation. The rooftop garden allows for group activities and interactive learning in a less enclosed environment.

Further Projects... Work Experience at AM2architects
The brief for this project focussed on a two storey side extension and rear extension to provide two additional spacious bedrooms, a large kitchen living space and space for an office. The existing build was fairly dark so a large focus was to bring in natural daylight in the hallway and additional rooms. The rear extension creates a modern feel whilst maintaining features of the existing house as well as a continuation of the front facade. (Existing house below)

Further Projects... NHS FLOOR PLANS
Nottingham City General Practice Alliance are the company head quarters for 41 GP practices in Nottingham. As the alliance continues to grow, NCGPA wanted to repurpose and utilise the neglected and disused spaces on the first floor to allow for more offices and treatment rooms. As more clinics meant an increase in patients, another reception and waiting area was added to the first floor, seperate to clinics that run on the second floor.

Further Projects... 1:50 HOUSE MODEL
During my work experience at SB Model Makers, my parents home was in the process of getting extended. I took this as an opportunity to create a model of the proposal from architect drawn plans and elevations. The model separates into a roof piece, first floor piece and main shell, showing interior floor plans.
