Education 2018-2021

Hello! I am a graduate of The Leicester School of Architecture, working as a Part 1 architectural assistant in Gibraltar, and I am a strong believer in the power of architecture as a positive shift of influence on society through creative design solutions. My fascination for sustainable design, has not only inspired my passion to pursue a career in architecture, but to present answers to real-life problems. Having worked with an under privileged community, this has humbled me and driven my motivation to help people through efficient solutions.

Email: aman.sian@hunjans.com Referees Ruth Massias Greenberg Director of Gamma Architects ruth@gamma.gi

I work well in teams and also use my own initiative to work independently. I am confident, approachable and have a wealth of extra-curricular experience that has provided me with strong life-skills. My passion for travelling and experiencing different cultures has accentuated my inspired and ambitious persona and continuously challenges my curiosities. I would describe myself as a well-rounded and effectively organised individual, with a variety of skills developed through my previous endeavours, particularly my Part 1 Architecture.

Working in Gibraltar as a part 1 architect on commercial and residential projects, has given me exposure to a wide variety of projects including a museum, hotel and sports centre - working in different stages of RIBA Plan of Works. Working in a different range of projects has provide the freedom to be creative in the design process and has broadened my skill-set significantly. Gamma also has strong collaborations with the schools and colleges in Gibraltar which I have held the responsibility to lead - this has included student liason and mentoring as well as delivering presentations to college students.

Working at AM2 equipped me with many practical skills despite being here for a short period of time. My experience at AM2 has involved shadowing architect meetings with clients, site visits and making design decisions. This has led to my work on several residential projects to create luxury design solutions for clients

Having previously worked at NCGPA, I was asked to do an architectural commission to survey and draw AutoCAD floor plans for a service redesign of a multi-storey NHS primary care building.

This inspirational experience involved shadowing architects at SEALAB with build and design work in a less fortunate community. Work focussed on rebuilding slum dwellings to meet basic living requirements. This later inspired my dissertation; ‘Exploring the Progression of Slum Upgrading in Ahmedabad and Comparing its Success Against Methods Used in Mumbai.’ Furthermore, as part of a studio project and working with SEALAB, I designed a kindergarten and library for the children of the community. Being fortunate to have the opportunity to work in India allowed me to appreciate the different building and design requirements when faced with harsh climate and distinct

LEICESTER MUSIC COMMUNITY AND COLLEGE

Third year studio project - Harmony Commune is a self sustaining music quarter including accommodation, shops and retail and a music centre for Leicester Music Society. The centre aims to encourage music exploration in Leicester as well as revitalising a neglected space. The existing site is a run-down old factory site which lies beside a canal and Abbey park. This design aims to maintain a strong connection with the park as well as the industrial buildings surrounding the site.

The Harmony Commune creates a space for artists, performeers and music enthusiasts alike. The regenerated area provides users a space for practice, education and performance whilst being surrounded by like-minded people to create a nurturing community. An open air amphitheatre in the courtyard allows musicians to practice and perform in the day alongside smaller ‘busking’ nooks around the complex.

Leicester is one of the most multucultural cities in the UK and these cultures offer a huge variety of music and food to be celebrated. Research has shown that playing and listening to music improves one’s mental health and reduces stress; ideal for residents of such a bustling and diverse city.

The project aims to achieve accessibility for all ages, ethnicities and disabilities to be a part of the community. With sensory landscaping creating a continuum of nature from the park to the new complex, the Harmony Commune will act as a thereapuetic connection between the bustling city and serene park-scape.

Music and Nature Nature is vital for ones mental health and well-being and has shown to increase productivity. Music has a strong association with relaxation and creativity. The Harmony Commune aims to combine these two elements bringing people together into one creative and tranquil ecosystem. The new landscaping and organic forms create a dynamic atmosphere whilst increasing social interaction within the community. The landscaping maintains a connection between the previously industrial site with the expansive green space of Abbey Park.

Sensory Environment The stimulation of the senses; through sight, smell, touch and hearing opens the individual up to be intimately intouch with their surroundings, easing mental stress and creating an environment perfect for creativity. One can walk through the site engaging in multiple experiences from the sounds of a local guitarist, a walk through the shallow waters, and the beautiful sights of flora and fauna. The project aims to include people of all ages and backgrounds and welcome them into the community.

VANSANA LIBRARY & KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN OFTHE LOVING COMMUNITY

The Loving Community in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is an accumulation of families, living in poor conditions with a low source of income. Families of the community usually have at least three children, all of which go to a public school outside of the community. The school hours do not cover a full day however, and children are often left alone in the community whilst their parents leave home to support their household income. The community space currently does not provide a space for children to play or learn which can affect their cognitive development as they grow. (Please read my dissertation for more information on the community).

A volunteer trip to Ahmedabad involved working on a project to provide a suitable space for the education of the younger generation. A childrens library and play area will allow an area of play and creative learning for children throughout the day. Furthermore, a kindergarten in the community will provide day care for the younger children of the community as well as aiding their cognitive development through education. Vansana Library and Kindergarten guarantee a safe learning facility for children and hope to provide better education for future generations to allow opportunities for higher education and better paying jobs.

Library Vansana is a bamboo pavilion located on the site of a disused playground which is at the heart of The Loving Community. The library is completely open, relying on bamboo columns for the structure and place-making, whilst allowing airflow and protection from the climate. The library aims to maintain a playful environment, for children of all ages, that is utilised throughout the day. This is demonstrated through traditional playground features such as climbing frames, slides and swings, cleverly combined within the bamboo structure. Smaller mezzanine spaces create a point of interest and curiosity for the user and maximises a playful learning experience in the structure.

The array of bamboo columns is primariliy to reduce construction costs but also to create a fluidity within the building whilst still dividing spaces. Tall bamboo and a wide variety of plants creates an experience of nature and tranquility for the user. With inviting views into the courtyard space, an element of relaxation is founded by the openess of the library. Density of bamboo increases according to how much privacy is needed within a space whilst pockets of vegetation aid in cooling the structure down. Individual reading spaces provide a quiet spot for a child to sit and read, slightly detaching them from the busier spaces of the library.

WORKING IN PRACTICE

Fortress House Gamma Architects Programme - Art Gallery Location - Gibraltar Date - December 2022 - Present Status - RIBA Stage 2 and 3 Involvement - Design decisions Facade details, Revit Model, Gallery layout, Interior Design, Finishes Package, Bathroom and Kitchen Details, D5 Visual. Fortress House is an art museum extended onto on old disused house. For this project I have worked on the interior layouts of the gallery spaces and general floor plans in BIM360 Revit, focussing on lighting, circulation through galleries and placement of art pieces. This has led me to conduct a lot of research into museum architecture and gallery design. Continuing to work on this during RIBA Stage 3, I have focussed on detail packages for bathrooms and kitchens as well as technical sections for the finishes. I also conducted a facade study, creating different rhombus types and drawing this in elevation to better understand the possible layout and therefore quantity of ceramic rhombus tiles we required from the manufacturers.

Netball Association Gamma Architects Programme - Netball Courts and Sport Facility Location - Gibraltar Date - July 2023 Status - RIBA Stage 1 Involvement - Design Concept The Netball Centre was a Charitable Initiative for Gibraltar Netball Association whom asked for design ideas for a possible centre in the place of their current outdoor netball courts. A main focus for the design was to create an organic and playful facade allowing me to explore different geometries with the facade. Although the project has not yet progressed since the initial concept, I was able to develop my skills in Revit, particularly in parametric design which I was then able to pass on to my peers. `

The Harrison Hotel and Spa Gamma Architects Programme - Hotel and Spa Location - Gibraltar Date - November 2022 - Present Status - RIBA Stage 3 Involvement - Revit model, Enscape renders, Oculus live -walkthrough The Harrison Hotel is a luxury hotel spa which is integrated within an existing heritage site with special considerations given to preserve original historical features such as stone walls, tunnels and gun embrasures. I have worked on the 3D Revit model initially refining the floor plans and layouts. I have particularly focussed on the suite design and finishes as well as spa details. Furthermore I have worked in enscape with materiality options and to create a live oculus walk-through (virtual reality) for our clients to view the final model.

North Pavilion Gamma Architects Programme - Apartment Building Location - Gibraltar Date - August 2022 Status - RIBA Stage 4 Involvement - Revit model, Windows/doors types and schedules, setting out drawings, Elevations, Detail drawings. For this residential project I worked on interior refurbishments as well as a new pottery workshop in the garden. Working closely with my colleague, I assisted with detail drawings in revit as well as setting out drawings, elevations and window and door schedules. Helping with this package allowed me to gain more knowledge and understanding on construction drawings.
