Includes a masterclass with Felix Claus, Liesbeth van der Pol and Metin van Zijl (20.00); presentation of the proper gear and arty glasses at ‘Fashion!’ (21.00); a workshop in time management (22.00—don’t be late!); an architecture version of ‘Idols,’(23.00); and, maybe most importantly, networking madness all night at the Crossover Bar. You can also take a special tour of the aquarium if you find the life aquatic more appealing. The planetarium will offer a separate programme, with an astronomical theme apt for both adults and kids. Tonight’s the night, Saturday 3 November, for the eighth instalment of Museumnacht (‘n8’ for short) when over 40 museums and institutions open their doors between 7pm to 2am for a little bit of something different. Want to groove to YouTube DJs? Or take in some John Cage on miniature piano? Or, hell, maybe you just want to get married? It’s all possible. Many events are organised especially for n8, but the venues also offer the opportunity to see permanent collections and current exhibitions. Welcome to our selection of n8 highlights and tips.

Five artists who set up makeshift studios on the spot supply the images. Deadline is 2am, and a week later the magazine will be sent out in digital form. (21.00-02.00, €10) Bijbels Museum You can never start early enough, so this year the museum offers a prep night for Christmas. Make sinterklaasgedichten with Adriaan Jaeggi (19.3021.00), sing Christmas carols, find a Christmas date at the speed-dating office and watch the garden being snowed in (00.00). To keep up the festive spirit, enjoy a free glass of champagne on the heated terrace. (19.00-19.30, 22.00-22.30) Bijzondere Collecties The newly reopened research museum presents itself with mini-lectures around the current exhibitions, guided tours, events and music. (19.00-02.00)
De Burcht The trade union museum presents an urban talent contest including career coaching and an educational performance by the rappers Masters and a musical theatre performance by theatre group Untold. DJ Funky Grooves will then send the visitors dancing into the night playing his, well... funky grooves. (19.0002.00) EnergeticA Museum Amsterdam’s first ever power station (built in 1903) offers action, reaction and interaction with machines. Features mechanical installations by artist Pieter Hohmann and the musical, audience-interaction extravaganza that is PIPS:lab’s Luma2sonator. (21.00, 22.30, 00.30) Filmmuseum It’s love, love, love at the city’s centre for all things cinematic: get married for the night in the Wed & Walk Chapel, then go and consummate the marriage (sort of) on the gigantic Liefdesbed while watching short films about love. get their dose of romance, too, when Fenno Werkman, proud owner of the country’s biggest music video collection, will bring all his tapes and play loved-up clips on demand. All alone or just feeling misanthropic? Off with you to the Wallflowers’ Lounge, where you can shoegaze on a dancefloor no larger than one square metre. See article on p.2. 19.00-02.00 Foam Inspired by current exhibition Celebrating Life by Ryan McGinley, Foam gets all touchy-feely and hippied-up. There’ll be psychedelic lights, fake grass, deep reading sessions, Technicolor cocktails, hand massages and much, much more. (19.00-02.00) Hermitage Amsterdam Special introductions to the ongoing exhibition about French and Russian Art Nouveau will be held throughout the night. There’ll be a workshop around the typical decoration and flower motifs, and live background Debussy on harp and clarinet. Eat and drink in style at the Kantinski Stil Moderno in the garden. (19.00-02.00) De Hortus Amsterdam’s botanical garden goes Oriental: water pipes! Belly dancers! Scheherazade’s stories! And the magical Sultan’s garden, where you can behold the exotic plants and flowers in subtle lighting. (19.00-02.00) Huis Marseille Accompanying the current exhibition of Valerie Belin, who photographs special-looking people and objects, is a kids’ workshop about guessing if the people in the photos are real or not. The older ones will get a chance to witness a photoshoot by Belin herself, and for the really old ones there’ll be wine and French cheese. (19.00-02.00)
