MONIQUE BERTINA “ALCHEMIES of the ARTcentric”
October 9-November 10, 2015
Inspired by Paul Cezanne’s philosophy,”When the color achieves richness, the form attains its fullness also,” French-based Monique Bertina expresses a powerful visceral vision in her abstracted color-wheel compositions intermixing a bold sense of line, kaleidoscopic hues and movement. Masterfully orchestrating a dramatic visual syntax, her dazzling acrylic compositions brilliantly metamorph to become a prismatic labyrinth of spectral colors that are compositionally rewarding. A commanding gestalt radiates a saturated color palette with exuberant hues which are juxtaposed for visual prominence, resulting in a dynamic oeuvre overflowing with overwhelming bursts of color. A visionary creator, Monique Bertina is a master colorist painter in her own expressive and painterly idiom, and is a proponent of the absolute joy of the gestural stroke. Vividly free flowing and wondrously fluid in motion, her mosaic compositions are accented with colorful pops of burnt golds, ultramarine blues and passionate poppy reds. These chromatic threads of color attain optical beauty and are at once rhythmic, interdynamic and cacophonous, creating a dense network of shapes and forms which richly convey a passion for life. Expressing abstract concepts, each intricate image suggests the spontaneity of life and reverberates with a powerful sense of visual energy. Ms. Bertina’s arrangements of dramatic shapes and robust color do not convey the way we look in reality, because there is no way to represent what creates each one of us. Rather, her magnifying glass reflects the point and counterpoints of the human psyche as the viewer is drawn deeper into this dazzling universe of color and shape.

DAVID BJERRE “WIZARDRY of the ARTessence”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
Galvanized by Jackson Pollock’s statement, “Abstract art should be enjoyed just as music is enjoyedafter a while you may like it or you may not,” Danish artist and musician David Bjerre’s compelling non-objective compositions seek to visually describe the inner-connection between music and art. Inspired by music which is the hallmark signature of this contemporary master, David Bjerre is influenced by Claude Debussy and Erik Satie, as well as the vibrant beat of Cuban salsa. Explaining his personal artistic vision: “My creative process often begins with a note that stands out because it is off key- or with crazy forms and colors, ending with a more balanced sensory composition.” He further states: “What is harmony without harmony, light without shadow?” In David Bjerre’s recent collection,”Sunshine in New, York,” this gifted musician displays his ability to skillfully translate the interplay between music and art. Transcribing sounds intermingled with the human imagination onto canvas, David Bjerre adroitly renders carefully balanced shapes along with color enriched by a dazzling hue-toned palette. Bursting with vibrant forms and a kaleidoscopic color wheel, his acrylic and lacquer canvases reflect expressive brushstrokes, energized color planes and captivating compositional harmony. Energized by his Nordic artistic culture, such as the COBRA movement, he is also inspired by the action painting of Jackson Pollock, as well as the diverse abstract style of Picasso. Innovatively combining spontaneity and visceral energy, David Bjerre expressionistically explores the color spectrum to achieve a vivid sensory realm. Displaying a masterful grasp of vibrant tonalities, the artist calibrates his huetopian colors with swirling movements as he articulates intangible sentiments and creates a probing visceral experience.
LUCY MATTOS

LUCY MATTOS “ALCHEMIES of the ARTcentric”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
“As paradoxical as it may seem a great sculptor is as much a colorist as the best painter, or rather the best engraver. He plays so skillfully with all the resources of relief, he blends so well the boldness of light with the modesty of shadow, that his sculptures please one, as much as the most charming etchings,” asserted Auguste Rodin. Argentinian sculptor Lucy Mattos creates color and depth in the curves and angles of her minimalist, abstracted sculptures with and without paint. Ms. Mattos’ distinctive, twisting style bestows upon each piece a distinct choreography, imbuing every statue with a powerful sense of motion. There is an almost painterly quality to the shapes and forms displayed in each sculpture, reminiscent of figures on a canvas with their smooth edges and clean lines. Lucy Mattos’ sculptures combine multiple techniques and materials to create highly gestural figures. Almost hieroglyphic in nature, the lack of facial expression does not take away from the overall effect but rather imitates the movement and meaning of interpretative dance. Each figure conveys a story from all angles; a kiss, a dance, a siren call, an anguished hunch: all of these different motions come across clearly, asking the viewer to find the outside moments that culminate in what we see immortalized before us. Every color and curl and carving works in harmony to underscore the sheer, raw passion that can be felt in each of Ms. Mattos’ sculptures, demonstrating her indomitable talent. Mirroring the life-long search for meaning every human shares, Lucy Mattos’ sculptures center around an anthropomorphic version of this eternal struggle. This central theme permeates the life of each piece, lending Ms. Mattos’ body of work a universality that otherwise would be hard to capture. This real, raw feeling fills all of humanity, all of culture, a constant struggle for meaning and self-understanding that is captured here so elegantly and succinctly. The lack of facial expression underscored this, by only using the body, Ms. Mattos allows the viewer to see themselves in every kiss and touch and dance, a juxtaposition of our reality and the reality of the art before us.
PATRICIA NEDEN
"Emergence” Oil on Canvas 44” x 40”
PATRICIA NEDEN “WIZARDY of the ARTessence”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
Echoing George Braque’s ideology that “Nature suggests emotion.... and I translate that emotion into art,” Canadian Master Patricia Neden captures expressive virtuosic visions of the divine power of nature in her masterful visceral abstract landscape paintings which radiate superlative color, light and composition. Both modern and timeless, her transplendent nature re-interpretations provide beauty and thought-provoking concepts, as they commemorate the glories of nature and immortalize the permanence of our natural world. Drawn to dense texture and a vivid color palette, the Alberta based artist expresses an organic, abstract vision of the beauty and permutations of nature. Desiring to evoke an emotional response, Patricia Neden’s unique inner vision synthesizes into personal emotional prisms which explode with a blend of abstract movement and texture. With a primary visual concern to spiritually connect with the natural terrain, she focuses on the movement of expressive color and design. Intermingling heavy textures explode with color, as her boldly expressive, tactile canvases come alive with pigment and her dynamic brushstrokes morph into gestural suggestions of nature. The artist’s process is at once intuitive and spontaneous as she draws upon internal inspirations and carefully reworks each detail to viscerally reflect nature in all its geographic specificities. Transcending the limitations of the everyday, Patricia Neden’s abstract expressionist landscape oeuvre offers brilliantly colored forms and compositions that defy the very notion of boundaries and borders. Enriching her canvases with dazzling vibrancy and vitality, her unique visual lexicon invites viewers on an emotional journey of color, exploring in paint the experiences of the natural world. Painted with panache and an acute passion for color, she employs generous spectral brush strokes which are boldly expressive, resulting in a rich and tactile surface alive with pigment. A kaleidoscopic palette of hues add depth and movement to her striking vistas. The imprimatur tones of her colors burst forth from the canvas with an explosive and effervescent charm and this fluid choreography of painterly gestures and hues becomes the catalyst which empowers her canvases to become excitingly alive. Through contrasting colors, she imparts the essence of amorphous nature as she captures singular, meaningful moments that define her impression of the world.
JOHN PETERS
"Chocorua at Peak” Oil on Canvas 20” x 24”
JOHN PETERS “MAGIQUE of the ARTelier”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
Inspired by Henri Matisse’s credo: “An artist must possess Nature. He must identify himself with her rhythm, by efforts that will prepare the mastery which will later enable him to express himself in his own language,” John Peters’ magical realism landscape and floral oil paintings reflect his personal visual lexicon which is an homage to the majesty and power of natural terrain.. Commemorating nature’s divinity, Mr. Peters immortalizes the permanence of our natural world with his illuminated panoramas and mosaic-hued compositions which transport the viewer into a romantic dialogue with the natural world. Inhaling the beauty of nature and exhaling its joy, this contemporary master creates landscape tableaux with ingenious color and powerful light, as he encapsulates the spiritual essence and dynamism of the terrain. Amidst the zeitgeist of living in a modern world and the gestalt of urbanization, John Peters juxtaposes an expressionistic view of nature while capturing the pulse and tempo of today’s modern landscape. Inspired by both the Post Impressionists, the Fauvists and the German Expressionists, the inner artistic vision of John Peters finds great joy in intermingling the dynamic variations of the ever-changing patterns of nature with a dazzling, visceral, textured color palette. With an exciting sense of drama coupled with visual intensity, Mr. Peters encapsulates the emotions, sensations, and feelings of nature onto the canvas, making them dynamically palpable, bridging the physical world to the spiritual and emotional world of nature. Embodying a pursuit to realize the spirit of the environment, John Peters’ densely textured landscapes and floral works are built from layers of oil paint which metamorphose into tangible visions of water, land, and sky. Whether painting the haunting trees, sky, water or flora of the land, his brightly colored rich landscape tableaux of the natural terrain burst with exciting energy and are suffused with a powerful sense of pattern, color, and shadow as they reflect the many forms and moods of the natural terrain. A hallmark of the oil paintings by John Peters is the visual intensity captured within each image. With bold abandon, John Peters’ signature style skillfully employs stark imagery with unbridled emotional content to create compositions that underscore his visceral feelings towards the external realm. Harmonizing an appreciation of the natural world with a distinct way of depicting it, John Peters’ interpretive realms marry textured powerful, passionate colors with undulating forms which explode to create compositions which capture the many moods of the world. With swirling brushstrokes, his paintings burst from the frame as they evoke a sense of a fevered dream reflecting a powerful surreal fiery sky and forms which mimic the slopes of the waves and land. Existing as large vistas, the various points of illumination allow him to establish distinctive points of view, patterns, and refractions, all of which interact with each other to garner a powerful effect. His personal imprimatur, or his recognizable iconography distinguishes his works from others, resulting in iconic transmutations of nature. Using a visual language of emboldened shapes and forms, his vivid dreamscapes construct a mosaic hued world of hues revealing a strong physical presence. Working in oil and utilizing an electric palette of rich, opaque colors, his tapestry of tones provide each element of his art with life and motion, using separate blocks of tone to create surprisingly realistic effects of light, shadow, and depth.. While his images teem with objects and activity, the artist’s sense of line and composition ensures that each painting has an underlying harmony and clarity. Applying one color to the canvas at a time, he gives his works a look that often recalls mosaics or tapestries, and the narrative dimension of those genres can carry with them.

“Objects of Beauty Series” Inspired by Confucius’ statement: “Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it,” California artist Sally Ruddy’s inner artistic vision encapsulates the full spectrum of the joy of beauty, whether it be the rejoicing in the vibrant colors of the strutting peacock or celebrating the simple beauty of a pure onion. Her latest series entitled “Objects of Beauty,” presents a cosmopolitan montage of our multifaceted natural world, ranging from brilliantly hued peacocks, delicate florals, evanescent landscapes to rejoicing in the strength of a vegetable that graces our everyday lives. Sally Ruddy explains: “My intention with this series was to honor the beauty of objects from the natural world. I worked freely with memory and imagination. I employed lyrical design elements, which were influenced by the works of Gustav Klimt, while striving to give each painting an essence of its own.” Spiritually uplifting, Ms. Ruddy’s reverently gorgeous paintings boast bright, jewel-tone colors that mimic the surge of light along feathers and leaves, creating, in essence a radiating sense of light in that emanates from within the subject itself rather than an outside source. Her bright floral works, luscious landscapes, and dazzling peacock paintings radiate luminescent energy, a certain life-like quality that creates a mimetic composition that delights all the senses. Her sense of scale and drama underscores the painterly skill she wields when building up the line work beneath her palette. Delicate yet powerful, Sally Ruddy creates an expressive, expansive body of work that encapsulates the little joys and treasures of life, reflecting the beauty within. There is a deep, sincere tenderness that permeates each intimate painting, filling the edges and corners with a resolute sense of visceral emotion. Every moment is a unique, frozen in time for the viewer to experience, each painting holding its breath and awaiting the next moment that is just out of reach. We are, in essence, observing the moment between moments, a beautiful celebration of the essence of life “My paintings are a form of poetry,” says Sally Ruddy, “you understand the “words” but sometimes they are combined in a way that can surprise and delight you.” Each one of Ms. Ruddy’s exquisite paintings underscores this belief with a poetic sense of motion held within. Even her floral works contain this movement, each color working to become the stanzas of a sonnet, building upon each other with an iambic rhythm. Her works contain a mystical character, a flowing energy that allows the viewer to be enveloped by up the mosaic colors. Sally Ruddy’s romantic love affair with nature reflects a presence upon her work, something that is deep seeded as it contributes to the overall quality of each painting.
ANTONELLA SISSA
“Untitled” Acrylic on Fabric Glued on Canvas 39.4” x 39.4”
ANTONELLA SISSA “WIZARDRY of the ARTessence”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
The statement by Antoine de Saint-Exupery:“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away,” has inspired the Italian artist Antonella Sissa’s innovative non-representational acrylic paintings which strive to capture the reduced essence of energetic movement, emotion and shape. By focusing on the delicate balance between inner essence and outer form, this gifted artist re-contextualizes the abstract by creating visual explorations of the non-objective realm. Propelling her expressions into non-objective dreamscapes, she creates an introspective dialogue that externalizes the abstract and the concrete. Revealing the invisible within the visible, Ms. Sissa reflects on the intangible within the tangible, employing sumptuous pigments and unconventional materials, such as fabric which is glued onto the canvas, to create a sense of texture, resulting in a superb sense of control and unexpected depth. Balanced and simplified, Antonella Sissa is an intuitive painter free of any preconceived ideas as she approaches each canvas with a feeling of excitement, wonder, and a sense of adventure. Extending the artistic boundaries to underline contrasting textures which, in turn, are juxtaposed with smooth fluid surfaces, Antonella Sissa’s lyrically poetic abstract paintings are best understood as landscapes of the mind. Edited to a trim, eloquent amount of visual information, her palette and content ethereally harmonize and vibrate like chords in a concerto, full of energy and life. Ringing with a syncopated glow and radiating artistic vibrations, her canvases are filled with rhythmic juxtapositions of light and joy that delight the viewer’s eyes. Boldly expressive and confidently assertive, Antonella Sissa does not title her oeuvre, challenging viewers’ perceptions and viewpoint, thus creating a powerful visual exchange between her art and her audience, urging us to look for the narratives beneath her fluidly abstract compositions. Space, time, an atmospheric use of color and temporality saturate her masterful works, as she harnesses her creative energies with adroit skill and masterful ease, as she examines the balance and the spatial relationship between colored forms in the foreground and the negative space of the background. Viewers respond to the emotional charges that underlie the creative genesis of her abstract dreamscape compositions through her employment of rich pools of textured hues and ethereal shapes which maximize impact which create the illusion of dimensionality.

DORI SPECTOR “ALCHEMIES of the ARTcentric”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
Henri Matisse stated “Expression is not a matter of passion mirrored on the human face or revealed by a violent gesture. When I paint a picture, every detail is expressive.” Inspired by this philosophy, Pennsylvania based Dori Spector’s innovative etchings are brimming with this exact kind of expressive detail, depicting balletic figures in scenes of overwhelming grace. Delicate and refined, Ms. Spector’s elegant etchings evoke a sense of nostalgia that is at once heartfelt and profound. Her figures seem to breathe with a lasting universality, both in their weightless poses and in their tranquil expressions. They exist in a space absent of time, whisking viewers away to a meditative, harmonious world filled with intricate details that reveal the artist’s quiet but brilliant coordination. Ms. Spector’s etchings convey a vital simplicity missing from the volatile contemporary time in which she creates. “As I go about my day, I am drawn to a full range of subject matter, and feel compelled to paint everything that calls to me,” says Ms. Spector. Indeed her scenes are everyday in nature, but it is her graceful framing and gentle artistic touch that creates an ethereal world within each engraving. Most importantly, her works convey an astounding sense of unity, a wholeness for which every artist undeniably strives. Her etchings often unveil a solitary female figure, a goddess of peace, masterfully formed against the tender, exquisite background that surrounds her. Each of Ms. Spector’s thoughtful compositions subscribes to a singular color scheme that might limit a lesser artist, but in her masterful hands they only enliven the works with dazzling personalities individual to each piece. Burning reds melt into exquisite pinks, and rooted chocolate browns entrenched alongside searing strokes of gold are only two of the dynamic color combinations pivotal in her work.

PARVIN ZABETIAN “ARTesthetic ENCHANTMENTS”
OCTOBER 9 – NOVEMBER 10, 2015
Inspired by Joan Miro’s statement:” I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music,” Washington-based artist Parvin Zabetian’s musically inspired series eschews the conventional to create modern abstract compositions that sing with a syncopated tone. Adroitly transcribing reverberated sounds onto canvas, Ms. Zabetian catapults the cadence of the musical world around her into lyrical, non-objective chromatic visions that are populated by melodically influenced shapes and adagio forms. Open for interpretation and replete with symbolism, her melodic compositions seek to externalize the inner visceral emotions of music offering a tangible painted voice to the rhythm and flux of the sounds of life. Like notes in a musical score, Ms. Zabetian’s swirling compositions are a chorus of deeper messages as they are integrated with a quartet of color and a stanza of intriguing shapes. Richly vibrating in form and hue, Ms. Zabetian’s’ free-flowing expressions impart a sentient awareness of the world, and connects us to feelings that might otherwise be too elusive or transitory to experience, Billowing streams of visceral forms interact as they reveal the artist’s unique personal expression as color harmonies and forms synthesize into rhythmic patterns, just as we differentiate in music between counterpoint and harmony.
