Understated Opulence Channelling the polished elegance of the Eighties, Amtico Metals sound a defiant ‘look at me’ note in the new decade. Six subtle shades and a fantastic rippled, beaten texture add up to understated opulence – gleam not glitz, bright but not brash – and creates the perfect starting point for the new ‘haute glamour’. The modern twist comes when you confine this glamour within structured lines, like skinny planks, grids and key squares: Amtico Metals look amazing harnessed within feature areas, or ‘rugs’, transforming bland environments. 4

Warm metal colours are right back in fashion, and Coin brings the light in like a beautifully-beaten copper bath, making it the perfect companion for chocolate woods.

Fuse is a live wire, shimmering pale to dark with the movement of the light, helped by the rippled effect and added gold dust.

The ultra-dark trend shows no sign of going away. Filling the gap between the ripple of slate and a solid black finish, Shot brings sparkle and wit.

The Amtico International Design Team travel the globe in search of ideas and design trends. “We take our digital cameras with us everywhere, even on the weekend, the search for ideas just never ends,” details Lorna Williams, Design Manager. Sometimes we find our inspiration in the most unlikely of places. Often our best discoveries are when we go exploring in the cities we visit. Most of the product creation is done in-house from artworking through to lab experimentation.”

“If you want to stand out in floor design you have to look higher than flooring for inspiration.” Lorna continues, “The last thing we want to be doing is copying our competitors, we need to stand out with fresh directions. We have a varied team of designers from different backgrounds so that we are never tied down to a specific house style. Instead we seek out new ideas, taking feedback from customers, sales executives and up and coming designers in order to achieve a cross-fertilisation of ideas.” We are planning about four years in advance, scanning our over-all range for areas of growth and improvement. In the coming months and years you will see how product combinations and design formats begin to enhance the way flooring is perceived.” 8

Why Design Matters

“Metals were created to be like the little designer scarf that lifts an everyday outfit.”

Sophisticated, useable metallics In search of design trends and inspiration the Amtico International Design Team noticed a trend back towards the use of metallics. Lorna Williams, Design Manager, explains: “On our annual visit to the Milan Furniture Fair one strong trend jumped out at us. Every piece of furniture seemed to be coated in metallics, from chairs covered in metallic pillowed leather to traditional wood furniture with a shimmering twist. On our travels we noticed neutral spaces that were lifted by subtle hints of metal like Tom Dixon Copper lights or a splice of gold laid into an expansive floor. However, unlike the brash metallics used in the past, these were soft, subtle and warm. We spent time developing new pigments to create warm metallic shades that would complement any space. Metals were created to be like the little designer scarf that lifts an everyday outfit.”

With the appealing tone of a handful of well-tilled soil, Earth is still pale enough to take its place in the neutral palette.

Eggshell has the clean lines and timeless appeal of Japanese porcelain. The subtle silver and gold glints lift it above the average.

A warm taupe that invites you to think of the potter’s wheel, Clay has the added character that bronze and silver particles bring.

Traverti

Geology meets architecture in Amtico’s ultra-realistic travertines Travertine has been a high trend in modern architecture since it was invented in the early 20th century, and satisfies our thirst for using timeless geological materials as a contrast to contemporary interiors. Amtico Travertine has the tumbled appearance of the actual stone without the porous instability of the real thing, and its pale and interesting finish works everywhere from grand entrance halls to small bathrooms. 12

As befits the material used for the Colosseum, travertine has a cloudy, mellow aged look perfectly captured in Amtico Travertine Ivory.

Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson’s entertainment suite at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s world famous football stadium, has been transformed with the help of Amtico floors. Amtico created a subtle design for the floor incorporating Audi’s distinctive branding. “This was a prestigious project to take on and it was important to get a feeling of quality across in this small space. There wasn’t the budget for real wood so Amtico provided the perfect alternative as it was cost effective and durable” states David Bruno, designer at Jam. “The biggest challenge for us was the Audi motif in the floor, which required real craftsmanship. Amtico’s expertise in this area meant that they could provide us with the best solution” he says.

Zandra stands out from the crowd A rainbow coloured floor might not be to everyone’s tastes, but for fashion icon Zandra Rhodes it’s the perfect addition to complement her colourful, South Bermondsey flat. When planning her interior décor, Zandra instantly fell in love with the vibrancy of the Amtico Stardust flooring. “Colour inspires me. I could never live in a plain white space. “The brightly coloured floor was exactly what I was looking for and now that they are installed their glittering qualities are even more fabulous. They do indeed have stardust quality.” “My flat is now even more inviting and spacious thanks to the colours in my floor, which perfectly matches the painted rainbow walls of my interior. “I didn’t want carpet and this is a wonderful modern alternative solution. These Amtico Stardust tiles do have a lovely feel.”

“I can honestly say that the branch looks great and the Amtico product chosen really does make a stylish addition.”

Spar Nord Bank in Denmark has over 75 local branches and handles both personal and corporate services. For a bank that has been voted “best customer experience” and “most innovative Danish bank” a contemporary, stylish and inviting look is essential. This is why they chose to specify an Amtico product for their new branch in Horsens. When Spar Nord Bank were planning the interior for the new branch, their in house architects Tina Roennow were looking for a flooring solution that could cope with the high traffic that is associated with a bank whilst complimenting the interior design features. Amtico Zebrano Wood was chosen for the project to add warmth to the customer waiting area. The Horsens branch consists of a large open plan area. With a sweeping curved staircase, comfortable customer seating, large rugs, decorative lighting and a fireplace, this branch could easily be mistaken for a luxurious hotel lobby. 18

Case Study - Spar Nord Bank

Zebrano Wood blends a distinctive chocolate linear grain with warm golden tones adding impact and punch to the scheme. Its strong grain works well in a plank format adding depth to this contemporary space. The simplicity of the design adds to the welcoming appeal of the bank and makes sure that it stands out from its competitors.

The product is used throughout the main banking hall and continues along the staircase, which is both a functional element and a focal centre piece. It continues along the walkways and onto the mezzanine floor above. Their in house architects Tina Roennow explains “I can honestly say that the branch looks great and the Amtico product chosen really does make a stylish addition.

From its humble beginnings in 1845 when William Welch Deloitte started his own accountancy office in London to its current global network of member firms, Deloitte has always sought to be the standard of excellence in the services it offers. When the Paris-based firm were looking to extend and refurbish its company cafeteria their flooring contractor was the first to suggest Amtico for the stylish and quality finish that could be achieved.

20

Case Study - Deloitte

“Amtico was selected, giving the benefits of a real wood look without the acoustic disadvantage of real wood.”

The cafeteria was not designed to be your ordinary company cafeteria; instead the finished result has a restaurant-quality atmosphere. Teaming stylish low-lighting with bar-style eating areas and strong colours, the flooring needed to be classic with a modern twist to complete the look. Amtico Worn Oak created the classic real wood look and the black stripping gave not only a modern and individual feel but also the optical illusion of chunky sleeper-style wooden flooring.

“Amtico was selected, giving the benefits of a real wood look without the acoustic disadvantage of real wood,” said Mr Christian Maulin of Deloitte Neuilly-sur-Seine office.

“Designers are starting to integrate all the sensory elements: vision, sound, smell, touch and taste as well as a sense of the imaginary. Visiting a hotel or leisure facility is now as much about the physical experience as it is about the product and service. Consumers are also becoming more informed, aware and involved in a sense of place. They seek out unique and special spaces that connect to their sense of identity. Promoting local values and elements in distinctive, up-to-date designs is the key to creating styles that imply global awareness and genuine care. The hospitality and leisure industries are in full evolution and businesses are starting to adapt and take a more confident design stance. It is a remarkably exciting time to be part of transforming bars, restaurants and hotels into lifestyle statements – true destinations rather than mere functional amenities. Henry Chebaane, Creative Director, Blue Sky Hospitality

As a design-led company Amtico International has always been at the forefront of flooring innovation. The in-house design team travel the world with open minds, immersing themselves in exciting new trends and ideas to fire their imagination. Over the years it has been this focus on design that has made Amtico products stand out from the crowd. This is exemplified in the Amtico Abstract collection, a spectacular collection of unique, individual styles, created to make a statement in interior design. The combination of in-house design and manufacture means that the Amtico product portfolio is truly unique and sets Amtico International apart from other flooring suppliers. Thanks to this coexistence of design and manufacture, the design team can create and experiment with new pigments, artwork and embosses in the UK. Just like the design-trends that inspire them, Amtico abstracts are constantly being developed and advanced. The Abstract collection, just like its Wood and Stone counterparts, contains staple products; those stylish, timeless designs that compliment any space. Alongside these design staples lie the bold, more distinctive style statements that create impact and individuality. “Recently the face of Amtico abstracts has been changing in a big way,” explains Lorna Williams, Design Manager. “Although they have always been our stand-out design collection it was with our Linear and Back to Black ranges that we made a real breakthrough.” “Our Abstract collection was respected for its highdesign but traditionally we had sold more woods and stones. With the launch of Linear, and later Back to Black, abstracts were suddenly appearing in our best-selling product figures.” Recently launched products from the Amtico Abstract collection have been specified all over the world, across a wide variety projects such as Renault F1 Team, Primark, El Corte Ingles, LD Lines passenger ferries and Icon. Linear Graphite LA33

2007

Linear was inspired by the 1950’s and 60’s palette of warm tones and muted hues and the trend for subtle stripes reflected in interior schemes. Each colourway was designed to work well in conjunction with other products, enabling them to be laid alongside one another to create walkways and add direction to commercial spaces.

2008

Back to Black

The trend for black was spotted initially by the Amtico design team at the Milan Furniture Fair where many shades of

black finishes dominated interior schemes, creating a very powerful and dramatic look. Since its launch Back to Black Vamp, one of the four colourways, has risen in sales to become Amtico International’s top-selling abstract product.

2009

Linear Metallic

To compliment the popular Linear and Back to Black ranges the Amtico design team created Linear Metallic, four night-dark shades shot through with bronze, gold or silver.
