SPEANZ-2072-Schedule Program Plastics and Medical Applications
The Section invites the members of AMTIL to attend at the same registration rate as the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) members. We also have Early Bird rates, which are advantageous compared to later registration. The registration and information are available on the SPE: A-NZ Section website www.plastics.org.au The SPE organises this event: A-NZ Section in collaboration with the BioMelbourne Network, the Medical Technology Association of Australia, the Plastics Industry Manufacturers of Australia, and co-located with the Australian Manufacturing Week Exhibition organised by the Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute Ltd (AMTIL). This event will be the first in-person event organised by the SPE: A-NZ Section since the COVID-19 restrictions came into force. Originally, this event was set up as a showcase of the use of plastics in Medical and Medical Devices Applications. The SPE: A-NZ Section abandoned this approach and instead concentrated more on presentations by service providers to the Medical (Devices) Applications industry sectors as we thought this approach would be of more significant benefit to the supply chain in which the Medical (Devices) Applications operate. The timely incorporation of these and similar service providers in delivering your applications to the market and its customers will reduce costs, optimise the design of plastic applications used in the supply chain and provide faster delivery to the end customers in your chosen markets. Applying the lessons learned from this One-Day Conference will assist you, and your company be more successful. Attending the Conference will also provide you with entry to the Exhibition between 12 pm and 2 pm (lunch at your own cost at the Exhibition). Entry to the Exhibition is free of charge, but you must register here: www.australianmanufacturingweek.com.au Sponsored by

Industry Breakfast: Future-proof your business to reap the rewards tomorrow
For most owners, their business is their number one asset, investment and income stream. Yet according to recent research by accounting and advisory firm William Buck, only 35% of owners have a plan for the future of their business. Failing to proactively plan for the future can result in a loss of income, limited options for exit and failure to realise the full value of your most valuable asset. Understanding your future exit is fundamental in determining the strategic direction of your business today. Join the Manufacturing LAB at Australian Manufacturing Week for a lively and interactive panel discussion in which our experts will share their tips for future proofing your manufacturing business. What is the Manufacturing LAB? The Manufacturing LAB is collaborative initiative between Coleman Greig Lawyers, William Buck Accountants and Advisors, and St. George Bank. Bringing together a network of experts and industry leaders, the LAB empowers manufacturing to connect, learn and grow. Hosted by William Buck Director, John Spender, our panel will address these issues and more. Key exit strategies - Securing future income streams - How to identify, maintain and maximise the value of your business - Financial and legal structures for optimal flexibility - Maximising your after-tax position - Making your business attractive to buyers and private equity Sponsored by
When designing the latest Gen III Simplex & Duplex folders, we listened to what our customers wanted. We listened to what they didn’t like about other machines on the market. The Gen III Duplex has proven exceptionally popular, with many repeat customers ordering 5, 10, or even 20 Duplex folders. Our Duplex folder is built with the same philosophies as our incredibly popular Simplex folders: robust design, high quality electrical & hydraulic components, simplicity, and serviceability. To complete our package, we kept our costs under control by using modern, efficient manufacturing processes. At SWI, we do not compromise on quality or strength to maintain our competitive pricing. We rely on smart manufacturing to produce our high-quality machines at a very economical price. Many components are fabricated in our robotic welding cells and our high-tech CNC machines run autonomously throughout the night.
Some key features of the Gen III Simplex & Duplex folders: • Enhanced folding geometry enabling profiles not possible on some European machines • Fold speeds faster than 3 seconds for 0° to 90° and back to 0° • Glove compatible PCAP touchscreen • 150° fold range • 8m slitter cycle less than 10 seconds • Zero backlash backgauge drive • Backgauge speeds up to 500mm/sec • Noise less than 77dB(A) • Duplex Power requirement 32 Amps @ 415V • Simplex Power requirement 25 Amps @ 415V • Remote access, Networkable and eBend compatible Additional features of the Duplex Folder: The Duplex eliminates the inefficiencies seen in other up & down folders through intelligent design and incredible ease of use. Those of us who have used the SWI Duplex know that it’s easier to use than any traditional long folder. At the same time, the Duplex also provides the sophistication that experienced users demand. A comprehensive Semi-Auto mode is limited only by the user’s imagination. • 280° front face working envelope • Faster clamp down speed • New backgauge gripper design for over-gripping hems • Minimum grip distance of 15mm • Automated Alemlube grease system • Larger 32” glove compatible PCAP touchscreen • Tapering backgauge - standard
Digital Axis Control
The latest Gen III folders are now available with digital axis control on the folding function, which provides servo valve performance for folding speeds and repeatability. Fold cycle times are typically 0.7 seconds faster than previous machines, and 0.3deg more accurate. With some clever engineering, this is all made possible with SWI’s traditional oil filtration system. Unlike European machines, no additional hydraulic complication is required. SWI has partnered with Rexroth to analyse the optimal motion profile that provides impressive fold speeds but also reduces unnecessary wear and tear on moving parts – as seen in some European machines. In factory trials, we actually have fold cycle times less than 2.5 seconds for 90-degree folds. Digital Axis Control is standard on all Simplex folders, and optional on Duplex folders. eBend
eBend has been SWI’s field detailing app for many years now. eBend is now also available for Android devices. The 2022 version of eBend comes preloaded with Colorbond, UniCote, ColorCote, and ColorSteel materials. It’s also preloaded with all our customers using eBend compatible machines. eBend enhancements will continue throughout 2022 and 2023 to further streamline the flashing manufacture process.
Duplex Folder
The latest Marxman Pro & Marxman Plus models provide the world’s most advanced sheet metal blanking systems. Marxman Pro & Plus facilitate a seamless process from your customer to your factory floor. Starting with SWI’s flashing detailing software, flashing details can be delivered electronically to the SWI Marxman flashing database, eliminating job entry on the floor altogether. Based on the famous SWI Marxman, the Marxman Plus & Marxman Pro have the added benefit of 8 pairs of auto slitter knives, auto nesting, scrap minimization and a huge range of flexible operation modes. The automated Marxman machines can have job data imported from a range of SQL based business softwares. Both machines have the ability to print barcoded labels (optional on Marxman Plus), and these labels can be scanned at SWI folders to import pre-entered job details direct from the production database to the SWI folder. SWI has paid particular attention to the traditional problems the slitter operator faces. Each issue is addressed with carefully engineered solutions. This provides fuss-free, accurate slitting and blanking. Our comprehensive manual illustrates the operation in simple step-by-step instructions to ensure you get the very best from your Marxman Plus or Pro.
