SHOW TIME, AT THE KORSTON HOTEL
The Korston’s concert-grade sound system packs a serious audio punch.
The Korston Hotel in Moscow has always taken pride in the strength of its corporate and hospitality offering and now the flagship of the Korston Hotels & Malls group has further enhanced its facilities with a brand new congress hall and a suite of flexible conference rooms, complete with the very latest in AMX-driven automation technology as part of a system designed, configured and installed by leading systems integrator, CROC.
boasts the most advanced technical capabilities including a concert sound system that packs a serious audio punch; hard-hitting enough to satisfy the requirements of the most demanding global stars and performers. Even the ceiling mounted stage lights have been automated as part of the system and can be raised and lowered, on demand, on an electric motorised winch. And, even if you are not in the congress hall itself, there’s no danger of missing the main event thanks to the integration of a number of wall-mounted relay screens located in the smaller, peripheral areas which are commonly used as make-up and dressing rooms.
This ambitious refurbishment project, which saw the existing bowling and casino areas replaced with a state-of the-art congress hall and seven smaller conference and meeting rooms, is a showcase for the many benefits of a flexible approach to corporate hospitality. Three of the seven rooms can be figured and reconfigured according to the particular application or the event being held. Rooms can be joined together or divided up, as needed, and the addition of lighting, a mobile sound system and a large format display in the main room turns this adaptable area into a truly multifunctional offering which has the technological capacity to cater for numerous applications and to display a wide range of multi-media content.
Management of all processes, including switching, audio and video transmission, lighting and content management, is achieved via the centralised AMX control system. This unified approach affords the hotel added flexibility and increased efficiency with regard to organising and managing events on site. Before this approach, for example, the microphones were connected to an audio mixer and could only be used in specific rooms. Now, the integration of a digital audio platform has allowed for more intelligent audio device management and assets can be moved around for maximum flexibility. At the heart of the system, an Enova DGX 32 provides a seamless switching and scaling solution,

Additional processing and switching capability is provided by no fewer than four Enova DVX-2155HDs and an Enova DVX-3155HD. These all-in-one units deliver control, AV matrix switching, scaling, analogue to digital signal conversion and amplification, complete with built-in professional grade audio processing. There is also a NetLinx NI3100. A stunning 20” Modero X Series control panel provides a fitting interface for this impressive installation; its panoramic proportions and capacitive multi-touch display provides users access to multiple applications, with minimal navigation. Additional control capability is provided by AMX TPControl App-enabled iPads. This innovative Application transforms this popular interface into a fully functional wireless touchpanel for controlling the AMX system; connecting as a native AMX device to the AMX master to provide real-time, touch control of automation functions, as fast as a regular panel. This intuitive solution is further enhanced through the integration of a number of macros into the system. It’s now never been easier to change the lighting depending on the nature of an event. For example, should the hotel want to turn on the filament lighting for a business seminar, and turn off the LED lighting used previously for a yoga session, then all staff have to do is simply click the ‘Seminar’ button on the lighting control interface.

This impressive project, which took CROC seven months to complete, is just the beginning of the Korston’s technological transformation. Plans are afoot to integrate Outlook Enterprise into the AV system; allowing the digital signage solution to pull schedules from Outlook and display them on the screen. Through integration with the calendar, AMX’s RMS Resource Management Suite system will be able to activate audio and video equipment 10 minutes before a scheduled meeting and proactively inform organisers in the unlikely event of any system malfunction, as well as preparing summary reports about meeting room usage. So, with its concert-grade lighting and sound system, the Korston hotel is now able to host even the most technically demanding of events, but the technological star of the show is, without doubt, its impressive AMX system!
