Walking briskly down a city street, you catch an unexpected glimpse of ivy-covered walls, and the sound of a babbling fountain and birdsong beckon you through an archway. As you walk down a brick path you find a hidden oasis, and the sounds of traffic fade away. Though just steps away from the busy street, for those few moments you are transported to a peaceful eden, a secret garden far from the bustle of urban life.
Pagoda Spring
The Pagoda Spring Collection stems from my love of antique blue and white porcelain, Asian architecture, gardens, and traditional mark-making. There are endless opportunities for inspiration—museum visits, botanical gardens, or even a fortuitous find at a weekend yard sale. Beautiful design is all around us!
My Juno Beach Collection is a snapshot of a special place where our family gathers to watch the sunrise over the ocean, dodge waves rolling in, and comb the beach for tiny treasures—rare bits of sea glass hidden amongst the wealth of shells washed up with the tide. They move like coins through my fingers, the sound of a slot machine payoff as they tumble at my feet. I’ve been lucky enough to glimpse a tiny sea turtle making his steadfast way to the surf for the very first time. So many riotous greens shades and shapes have staked their claim in the sandy soil, and the ocean breeze moves palm leaves overhead, creating and recreating crisscrossed shadows on the ground.
Explore the Haunted Collection, but beware what you may find. Vipers lurk amongst climbing roses. A vial of poison and deadly nightshade are disguised in a damask print. A pleasing plaid is home to the black widow. It’s best to remember that beauty has its dark side, and things are not always as they seem.
Creating my own modern spin on this traditional holiday carol (dating from 1780) was pure fun.
I called on memories of watching spellbound as my sister danced The Nutcracker ballet on stage and my father played the clarinet in the orchestra pit below, the lively and colorful illustrations in my childhood books, and even my sister’s coveted musical jewelry box that opened to reveal a magically spinning ballerina inside. Each character insisted on marching to their own drum(mer) as they came to life on the page!
