Mission OCU Student Affairs advances transformational learning by delivering programs and services that promote student excellence through high quality academic and co-curricular experiences, student engagement, appreciation of diversity, and healthy living.

To Achieve this Mission We:

Active Learning As educators, the Division of Student Affairs staff is committed to providing active learning opportunities and experiences that encourage student responsibility, accountability, citizenship, inclusion, cultural awareness and personal growth.

Community Involvement The Student Affairs staff is committed to finding and creating opportunities for students to interact with their university and community according to interests, activities and curiosities, with the intent of building a connectedness to the OCU and local community.

Responsibility and Civility Student Affairs provides opportunities for students to work together toward high goals, hold each other accountable, and have difficult conversations while maintaining a respectful and civil community.

Collaboration Student Affairs demonstrates a consistent commitment to collaboration by supporting and partnering with other university departments, faculty, student organizations, and community entities.

The Division of Student Affairs serves as a combined unit of departments, allowing for broader, strategic conversations to take place regarding student engagement and development and generates a collaborative synergy. Student Affairs creates an environment and opportunity for all students to become engaged, while involving students in the process and encouraging student-driven initiatives. 3


Career Services MISSION The office of Career Services supports students and alumni in all disciplines to blend their individual talents, interests, and academic achievements with the career readiness skills that will lead to success beyond their first job. In combination with traditional career development elements, Career Services integrates personal education tools so that graduates are empowered with the practical knowledge needed to implement wellconceived career plans and transition from college to 'real-world'.

2015-2016 MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Piloted a new Career Services Ambassador program, engaging and motivating OCU students in career development through peer to peer interactions • Created and led new StuPro AY 15 -16 training for 23 mentors and 26 interns • Reevaluated AY 16-17 StuPro selection process implementing a standardized scoring rubric, adjusted the award time period to occur earlier in the spring semester to allow for fall training opportunities, and added additional student criteria to focus on professional development skills • Established an electronic student assessment system that collected 146 individual responses for services rendered, an increase from 24 responses AY 14-15 • New Student Outreach: Had a presence at the OCU Opportunity Community Fair (FYE), and Participated in the FIRST Mentor program (Student Development) • Represented OCU at the annual Greater Grads Career Fair (OKC Chamber of Commerce) • Director chosen to serve on the InternOKC planning committee with the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce • Director of OkACE Awards committee, created Career Champions recognition program

Housing & Residence Life MISSION Housing and Residence Life aims to provide the best community there is to offer at OCU, challenging and supporting students to connect to each other and to the University. As a Residence Life team, we are people-first focused, education-minded, and excellencedriven.

2015-2016 MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Completed renovation of Walker Hall 1st floor lobby • Began renovation of Banning Hall lobby area and repainted the entire interior • Implemented a simplified version of housing draft selection process for returning students • Achieved a surplus in revenue at Cokesbury Court apartments • Developed a process that enabled new students to see their actual room during Stars 101 • Completed full plumbing replacement for Walker Halls A&B • Replaced Banning Hall HVAC system with one that eliminates the use of steam pips and will be more energy efficient and user friendly • Replaced flooring at east entrance of Methodist Hall.

Counseling Services MISSION The mission of University Counseling Services is to promote healthy lifestyles and support academic success by providing quality mental health services.

2015-2016 MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS: • Offered referrals when appropriate and maintained updated community referral list • Provided critical incident debriefing and post incident therapeutic services in regards to three separate events on campus involving loss of life due to suicide • Operated and maintained OCU Counseling Facebook page designed to provide information about events sponsored by counseling office • Held monthly staff “lunch and learn” professional developments • Offered more than ten outreach programs, including healthy relationships, stress relief with therapy dogs, and two Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper trainings for suicide prevention to faculty and staff • Provided additional education on interpersonal violence during Alpha Chi Omega’s “Take Back the Night” Event, October 2015 • Created and implemented the Campus Safety presentation during Stars Week for all incoming freshmen and transfer students, which also incorporated a partnership with the OKC area YWCA. Facilitated an Empty Nest Syndrome program for parents. • Trained RAs in QPR, October 2015

ACADEMIC COLLABORATIONS • Sponsored presentations from the Oklahoma Eating Disorder Association (monthly from Oct-March) • Presented informational programs for students in leadership course on drugs and alcohol, bystander intervention, and sexual assault and interpersonal violence awareness, March 2016 • Presented to ABS students on trauma-based treatment, October 2015 • Presented “Mental Health Matters” for faculty/staff as part of the Summer Wellness Series

MISSION Student Development is committed to the holistic education of all OCU students through programs and services focused on personal growth, leadership development and civic engagement. We hope to serve and engage OCU parents and families while their students are members of the OCU campus community to forge a partnership that is beneficial for all parties.

2015-2016 MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS Sorority Life Accomplishments • Sorority Formal Recruitment (8/19/15 - 8/23/15) • 133 women participated in the sorority formal recruitment process • Panhellenic voted to move away from neutrality beginning with sorority formal recruitment fall 2016. • Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) Conference • 5 students and 2 staff members attended AFLV Central conference in Indianapolis • Bystander Intervention Education Sessions - NEW • All 4 women’s Greek organizations participated in bystander intervention education sessions during the Spring 2016 semester • Greek Life Faculty & Staff Appreciation Luncheon • 60+ guests attended the luncheon hosted by the Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council • Greek Day of Service - NEW PROGRAM • 65 students took part in this service event at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma • Greek Standards of Excellence - NEW PROGRAM • Began implementing a recognition and information tracking program for the fraternity and sorority community that will be rolled out in Spring 2017 OCULeads Accomplishments • Completed merger of OCULeads, Luper & American Indian Scholarship programs - created and implemented LAS class & Living/Learning Community • Engaged new OCULeads members during Living/Learning Community move-in NEW • Hosted 2016 Winter Welcome Week Event in conjunction w/FYE - NEW

Parent & Family Services Accomplishments • Social Media - NEW • Created Facebook page for parents & family members of current OCU students to utilize for questions, comments, and feedback • Welcome Packets - NEW • Distributed informative welcome packets to parents and family members of incoming first-year students at new student move-in • Newsletters - REVAMPED • Sent out quarterly newsletters to parents & family members of current OCU students that highlighted information regarding campus activities, important dates, and useful pieces of information • Parents’ Day – REVAMPED EVENT • A Parents’ Day reception was held for 150 campus guests • Sibs Day - NEW PROGRAM • 13 students and their 13 siblings took part in Sibs Day 2016 • Finals Week Survival Kits - NEW PROGRAM • Finals Week Survival Kits (care packages) were created and sold to parents and family members of current OCU students raising a total of $3,725.00 for use on Student Development initiatives. • Fall 2015 Sales: 52 care packages sold • Spring 2016 Sales: 97 care packages sold Student Conduct Accomplishments • Created a Student Conduct Board application process for students and staff – NEW • Reviewed & updated the Student Code of Conduct to include Medical Amnesty policy - NEW • Held two Student Conduct Board trainings - one fall semester & one spring semester - NEW • Increased alcohol education to student body – NEW

Student Development/Leadership Accomplishments • Created new education modules for first-year students providing better, more specific information related to OCU policies and procedures while saving approximately $2,000.00 by using in-house modules. - REVAMPED • National Voter Registration Day Picnic & Activities • Hosted a picnic on National Voter Registration Day. Forty students registered to vote. • Tabling for students to complete voter registration forms occurred several times during the fall and spring semesters, with 20 additional students registering to vote as a result. - NEW • Community Service - NEW PROGRAMS • 20 students volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma • Co-organized Live! On the Quad to provide students access to local community organizations • STAR Summit - REVAMPED • Revamped former STAR Summit structure by selecting a theme and keynote speaker for the event and removed the ‘Top 10 List’ from the event agenda • FIRST - NEW PROGRAM • Created a mentorship program for incoming first-generation students • Campus Leadership Awards - NEW PROGRAM • Distributed 25 awards to students, student organizations and advisors recognizing their commitment to bettering the OCU community

Collaborated with Russ Tallchief, adjunct professor, and Dr. Regina McManighell, Associate Professor of English, during spring and summer 2016 to create the Exploring Communities Liberal Arts Seminar (LAS). The class was approved by the LAS Committee in the spring of 2015 and implemented in fall 2015. The class has been re-approved for fall 2016. Trained individuals from five academic departments to assist with delivery of Bystander Intervention Training. Participated in presentations for Dr. Terry Phelps’ spring 2016 Composition class. Voting staff member on the University Probation & Petitions Committee, a grade and academic appeals committee. Members of the Guardians of the Galaxy group, a collaboration of individuals from Academic Affairs, CETL, ELS, Wimberly School of Religion, Petree College of Arts & Sciences, etc., who meet periodically to discuss ways to collaborate, engage students, advertise upcoming events, etc. Participated in the University’s Diversity Task Force alongside numerous faculty and staff members. Staff served as a convener for the All Employee/Human Resources Committee and a member of the Student Programming Committee. Staff recognized for academic support of affiliated Greek students at the annual Greek Life Faculty & Staff Appreciation Luncheon. Faculty and staff members from CETL, Petree College of Arts and Sciences, and Academic Affairs were recruited to serve as mentors for FIRST. Worked with individuals in several academic units, Wanda L. Bass School of Music, Petree College of Arts & Sciences, etc., to resolve or provide advice for resolution of student-related issues. Recruited and trained staff members from Academic Affairs and Risk Management to serve as members of Student Conduct Boards.

• Joined the Oklahoma City Chapter of the United Nations • Chickasaw Nation Art Festival in Sulphur • Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference Intramural Sports and Fitness Accomplishments • For the first year, program was awarded two StuPros—one for IM Sports and one for the Aduddell Fitness Center. Students assist with scheduling games, building brackets, maintenance reporting for equipment, among other duties. StuPro’s help manage 25-35 Work-Study students in Aduddell and IM Sports, which has 15-20 Work-Study students. • Purchased three new treadmills for Aduddell. • Increased IM participation in flag football by 50%, basketball by 30%, 8 on 8 soccer and dodgeball showed a slight increase, while table tennis remained consistent. • Added Ultimate Frisbee as a sport in response to student interest. • Leveled the intramural sports field. Increased 30%. • Multicultural Student Activities involved more than 1,200 students, faculty, and staff. Increased 35%. • Community Engagement efforts totaled more than 800 students, faculty, staff, and community members. Increased 40%.
