Kids Weekends Site Redesign Poster
Design Brief
The site of my project is the entrance by the Rose Garden at USC, the cement seating area that was made to commemorate the Los Angeles Olympics. I noticed this large space has a little use nowadays. There are a lot of places to sit but people rarely take the spaces for seating. One possible solution is to transform the area into a reading space for family and students. I want to redesign the landscape into a more playful space for children and family by making the space into a bumpy grass area. On the weekends, parents could bring children to this reading space while visiting the Rose Garden, and there will be children’s books provided. The dimensions are intended to be 36 x 20 inches: an advertisement poster for the new reading site for family with kids.

With Glowing Hearts Editorial Layouts
Design Brief
For my editorial layout project, I picked Canadian mittens that were made for supporting the athletes of Olympic games in 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, in 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and 2014 Olympics in Sochi. This object relates to me because of the Olympic games that happened in my hometown in Vancouver and also it serves as a symbol of my nationality. I like it because of its beautiful and simple designs and its functional use to keep hands warm in winter. People would wear it to Olympic games and its red color really stands out among the crowds. My intended audience for the editorial layout mainly targets younger people, from ages 12-35 because they tend to show more energy and enthusiasms for National spirits, and also because most Olympic athletes are of younger ages. I thought red, white, and black color palette on the mittens could be a good way to start off my editorial designs. Also, I choose to use “With Glowing Hearts from the national anthem as the headlines to best represent the mittens.

SYRUP DESSERTS ReDefine Media
Design Brief
This project is about taking an existing visual element from one media and translating it into another media, from 2D to 3D to other forms. I chose Syrup cafĂŠ located in Downtown LA because it is one of my favorite cafĂŠ shops near USC and also because the cafe does not have a lot of design elements beside its interior design. I took the visual elements from desserts and the interior of the shop and translate it into a take out menu, a take out box, and a web design. For the take out menu, I used the elements that resemble the syrups placed on their waffles and crepes as a visual pattern and as its logo. I use wood background, pastel green, and dark brown color to resemble the interior of the shop and incorporate the same color and design into the take out box and web design.

Mock Up for 3D 2 Ideas My first idea was to make a packaging with handles, but I thought of its wastefulness of materials and the handles are hard to close up.
My second idea was making a box with hooks as the flaps as the solution for a clean simple design. Handles are not as necessary.

MAKE Booklet Design Self-Promotional Project
Design Brief
The final project is about making a DIY demo into a postcard and tutorial spreads, combining with the designs done by the rest of the classmates into a book. We named the book “MAKE. I chose a DIY tutorial of an origami box that can be made in easy six steps. Origami box is useful for temporary storage of little things on tables, especially useful to organize a tabletop when doing arts and crafts. It can also be turned into a gift box with two boxes. The materials can range from scrap papers, magazine pages, newspapers, to decorative papers. I incorporate elements of little pieces of paper from arts and craft into my design to make it playful, fun, and easy to follow. My target audiences can be anyone who is interested in being organized, making gift boxes, or folding origami.
