SECTION 1> TECH-NO SECTION 2> REINVENTION OF DISCOVERY

Trapped in a narrow state of mind; in a prison of search engines.

3
Over consumed by digital media, leading lives typing on a keyboard or device.

Technology interferes and distorts real life.

The year is 2016. Modern society is obsessed with the digital age. A global phenomenon, constantly growing in power and dominance. We are trapped; relying on search engines, consoles, computerised machines and techno-everything. Reality is a distant concept - a mere ideology in an age where the importance of living in an online community outweighs physical existence. Obscured, absorbing, and pressured. Information being fully controlled, narrowing our minds and self-expression. The notion of finding, searching and exploration ceases to exist as instant access is heavily relied upon for information. Socialising, gaming and booking are activities in virtual worlds - no longer bringing people together, but isolating

individuals to four walls more so than ever before. It seems there is no way to unplug our physical-selves from the online profiles. There will a breaking point. We will eventually become sick. Over-consumed; no longer in awe of the advances around us. The segregation of an online globe will become too much. Anxiety and stress caused by living in a cyber-led environment. We will forget the very reason we ever became so engrossed in technology. Forget system reboot. This is a system shutdown.
Controlling minds and influencing thoughts.
10
Taking attention away from what is happening around us.
11
12
Reducing quality and replacing it with artificial elements.

14
Reality is distant, minds are filled with random thoughts and visions.

Virtu-cleanse kicks in. The time has come to sit back and breathe. Escape the confides of a techno-environment. The globe is at our feet: absorb yourself within it, discover it, experience it. We will take inspiration from the Stone Age by adopting a back to basics perspective. A generation of digital natives will become fully engaged in face-to-face interactions. Whilst it cannot be ignored that millennials network through the digital, they will be inspired by simpler means and connecting with real-life. Living in the moment will replace device-streamed content. Experience will be more meaningful than evidence.
Nostalgia has been lost along the way to electronically-led life, and will resurface to bring family generations closer together through a mutual appreciation for exploration. All aspects of life are included, with lifestyle brands catering to this by reinventing the idea of immersing the consumer in their story and values. In the reinvention of discovery, physicality is being brought back to us. This is the Archeology of the Physical.
24
25
An appreciation of print will come into play; most businesses will be based on digital platforms therefore publications and books will become invaluable and treasured.
26
27
A new kind of old: A sense of nostalgia will arise as older and younger generations are brought together through traditional activities and socialising.
28
29
Physicality is a key theme within the trend, through using books for research and enjoyment, as well as exploring the world’s natural beauty.
30
31
Traditional craft and art forms are encouraged as they were lost along the way to digitalization.
32
33
34
Previous page: Exploration will resurface; the digital-native generation will appreciate life outside of their online personas.
35
The element of physical experience is signified through textures. They can only be fully appreciated in person.
36
A neutral colour palette conveys the sense of stripping life back to basics. Touch is one of the five senses that enables us to fully experience our surroundings.
37
38
39
Darker shades of neutral and the grain consistency of fabric highlights how we are turning back to past ages for influence on how to lead a more fulfilling lifestyle.
40
Warmer palettes and a sense of antiquity will be implemented through design and packaging to appeal to like-minded consumers.
41
42
43
44
Previous page: We will go back to wanting a traditional approach to processes; signified by interior design choices as many creative outlets are through technological means. The notion of personalization will be taken into stores and locations rather than on a device.
