Project Brief: "Light Up The Future" Recall the last time you walked past a lamp post. What was your impression - a tall, grey and dull column, an unobtrusive street furniture which did not worth your attention. It shows you the way in the dark, but it has nothing to do with your experience in the daytime. "Light Up The Future" is a vision to revolutionize the role of street lighting from merely a lighting device to an interesting, refreshing and educational element of the daily experience of residents in the future Lam Tei Community. "Light Up The Future" envisions street lighting to be the engine that render residents a more refreshing and inspirational urban experience while lighting up the community through renewable energy. “Light’s have fun” brings waste-recycling and climate-resilient concepts to street lighting to foster members of the community to learn, play and contribute to the community. "Light2Green" brings natural elements to street lighting design and will stimulate residents to learn, interact and relax. "Light's To-Gather" transforms lamp posts to be social gathering nodes fostering community engagement, encouraging people to give, inspire and "be together" to form stronger sense of community. "Light Up The Future" will be the starting point to re-engineer the role of street lighting in future cities. It will light up our uncertain future amid the emerging challenges of both environmental and social sustainability, and show us the way to a bright future.

The Lam Tei Quarry development will transform the Lam Tei Quarry to a vibrant, livable and sustainable community that houses thousands of families. Sustainability will be the first and most fundamental principle to be achieved by the community. The three proposed smart street lighting designs in "Light Up The Future" will be the ones that shed light on and guide the future Lam Tei Community to a climate-responsive, socially connected and innovative and technology-driven future.
