Dear Parents /Carers Harvard Park Day Nursery is part of ‘Let’s Talk together’ programme which encourages early speech in a language rich environment, working in partnership with parents. Part of the programme is to monitor, evaluate and expand your child’s language to support them in group time and as individuals to enable them to become confident independent little learners. Your mission is to: find a box that is the size of a small shoe box (there will be a few samples on the small table outside the manager’s office ) We would like you and your child to decorate the outside, then
fill it with things that
your child will enjoy showing and talking to their friends about. For example: Family photos (that we will copy for you), Photo of special pet, Daddy’s car Objects linked with their multicultural backgrounds- national costume, books, bowls, chopsticks, Russian dolls, First cardigan, booties, Favourite toy, Favourite food (not the real thing photo or plastic), Certificates, small trophies, medals, Special Book. Special Pen or pencil, Little things that maybe in mummy’s handbag like, makeup mirror, hairbrush, comb Please make a list of all the items in the box, putting it all together and bring in to nursery. Your child will be sharing these things in small groups during show and tell time were we will endeavour to keep all your child’s belongings together, returning them when they leave nursery. But please do not put anything that is too precious as things do get lost and we cannot replace any items. Please remember that dummies should only be used for short periods of time, as they negatively affect speech and language development for example children cannot talk with a dummy in their mouth. Your keyworker will be arranging a small meeting to discuss your child’s progress at some point this term.
