Harvard Park Day Nursery Feltham: April Newsletter 2015. News from the Managers Nicki and Tracey – We hope you all have a lovely Easter
Bank Holiday and please remember we are closed Friday 3 rd April and Monday 6 th April. We would just like to emphasise the importance of attending you full sessions where possible. After breakfast or lunch, if your child does not attend they are missing out on story and songs times helping to develop language and self esteem, focus groups helping develop their knowledge and understanding of the world, trips out and around our local environment to gain physical exercise and fresh air and free play which provides them with opportunities to engage and develop social skills as well make choices. Bringing them in half way through their sessions does not help them understand routine and can lead to unsettling and them becoming upset. We only want what is best for the children in our care and we feel that it is attending their sessions where possible at the set times. Please fold down your big buggies as it is a health and safety hazard, umbrella buggies are a much more suitable option and save on space, which we do not have much of. And we would like to ask for your patience when at the door whether in the lobby or the main door. As you know this is a business and we have to make sure it runs smoothly. Occasionally there may only be one manager present and it is hard for us to answer the door straight away. We thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
News from our Deputy Carol-When speaking to your key worker, either as a new parent or just in general, please inform them if your child is on any medication such as inhalers even if they do not need them inside of the setting. It is important for us to know if your child is on medication in case of an emergency. For our older children in the setting, encourage your children to look at and recite their address and front door number, making them aware of where they live and who to turn to in case of an emergency.
News from Baby Studio –Sana,Mary, Gurpreet, Nabila, Marisa and Mandy:
Hi, Welcome to Davina, Harrison, Arnav, and Vihaan. We would like to remind you to label all clothes, coats and bottles. We are happy to do this for you if you do not have a permanent marker and it will avoid confusion at home times. Please be aware that if you have yet to send in family photos of your families, we will be taking them at drop off’s and pick up’s Our theme for this month is animals. We will be looking at all types of animals from zoos to oceans and from pets to farm. We will be supporting our children’s learning in a number of ways many of which are through messy play or small world. We will be looking at the different sounds animals make, as well as different areas they live in such as pond, farm or water. Some of the activities will involve trips around our local environment, animals in water, painting with prints, being creative with our miniature farm, and messy play such as spaghetti or shredded paper which will encourage children to look for hidden animals as well as explore different textures. News from Bunnies –Holly, Sam, Simran,Ambreen and Sonia: Hello there! Firstly we would like to say goodbye to Kian who is moving up into Freedom Zone! This month’s topic will be focusing on self help skills. To help support the children with this we will be providing lots of activities such as dressing babies, teeth brushing, and pouring and emptying containers or jugs to encourage choice and independence skills. There will be a big focus with encouraging them to put on their own socks and shoes as well as being able to correctly identify and attempt to put on their own jackets. For children who are quite strong at guiding their arms through their sleeves, the next stage will be to lay their coat on the floor with the hood at their feet, putting their arms in the sleeves and putting it over their heads. Please do not be alarmed or annoyed if they are laying their coats on the floor If you would like to have a look at your child folder then you are more than welcome to take it home for the weekend. But please ensure that it is returned on the following Monday. Please can you also ensure that you are here before 5:50pm at the latest so that we are able to give you sufficient feedback? The nursery closes at 6:00pm and we are unable to give feedback after this time.
Your mission this month is to: -
- Encourage your child with putting on clothing or pulling up zips. - use simple language such as you do it to encourage independence and develop understanding. - Try walking to nursery when you can and talk about dangers on the road and the importance of using our legs.

If there are any parents or relatives who have a job like this, would it be possible for you to come and see us, talk about your job and maybe show us the uniform? The children would benefit from this a lot. Easter Competition: Just a reminder about our Easter competition, all entries need to be in by Thursday 2nd April and given to your child’s key worker clearly labelled. It can be anything from a simple Ester drawing to a creative Easter Bonnet. We have had some lovely entries so far so let’s keep them coming!
