Harvard Park Day Nursery Feltham: April Newsletter 2019 News from the Managers, Nicki and Tracey and Deputy Manager, Carol – Welcome to April 2019! We would like to wish Lynda a very happy birthday for this month. We are currently recruiting for a couple of positions, so if you know anyone looking for a job and has a qualification in childcare, pass on our email address and get them to send in their CV’s : info@harvardparkdaynursery.co.uk. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Mother’s Day events. We are very proud of our practitioners organising and running them so well done to our outstanding team too! Please be aware that our setting will be closed on Friday 19 th April and Monday 22nd April due to the bank holiday weekend. Our Annual Teddy Bear’s picnic – 15th March and onwards The week of the 15th week will be having our annual teddy bears picnic so we will be asking all of our parents to bring in a teddy bear from home. Please be aware that this may change weather depending. Nursery School applications: If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they can start in the nursery class of one of our local schools in September 2019. These applications must be made online via https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20028/primary_admissions/74/nursery_admissions . Closing dates for the submission of these applications is 3rd May 2019. If you need further assistance, please come and see Carol and she will help and advise as much as she can. Health and Safety issue – Parental request for children not to go outside It has come to our attention that a few parents have requested that their children are not to be taken outside when they appear to have coughs or colds. It is in our policies to allow children garden access and we cannot deny them of this right. If you feel they are not well enough to play outside in fresh air, then your child is not well enough to be in nursery. We wrap the children up with the outdoor clothing you provide, if you provide a scarf and hat, we will encourage them to wear this. If you are sending your child in with a thin spring jacket, this is what they go outside to play in. If your child is with us for 10 hours a day, we are not going to deny them access to fresh air and a right to free choice. Please bear this in mind thank you Requests – Reminder about Birthdays and Party bags: It is lovely that you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with us and the children love to celebrate with their friends. Just a small reminder about party bags, where possible as we do try and support healthy eating as much as possible, fruit or fruit alternatives such as raisin boxes or fruit snacks are more than enough. Other options could include a book or a small colouring book for the children to take home. If you do wish to do party bags, can we request no sweets and no small objects. In terms of cake, shop brought cakes are best. Make sure there is always alist of ingredients on them and can we please request no fresh cream cakes. Character cakes from supermarkets are more than enough for children. Please repsond to emails where a response is required If we or practitioners send out emails which require a repsonse i.e. mother’s day events or parents in paretnerships, please confirm your attendence as we may not have catered for you if we do not have a reply. Small Step’s mother’s day event was wonderful however we had only catered for the 6 that confirmed they were coming (luckily we are always prepared). Due to our space we always try to arrange or re-arrange rooms to cater for the amount of people who confirm their attendce. In future, please confirm or deny whether you can or will be attending. Thank You The weather is forever changing, please dress your child for the weather and the temperature. Although it may look sunny, please consider what the shade temperature will be like. Also,
please can we request that your do not send your child in slippers. They need to have appropriate footwear as we are going to be going out for daily walks – this includes getting out of the bus or buggy in all of our rooms.
News from Baby Studio – Simran, Mary, Nabila, Roshelle and Amanda: We would like to say goodbye to Saanvi as she will be moving up to Small Steps at some point this month.
Focus: Physical Development This month’s focus will be all about physical development. To encourage our gross motor skills, we will be using our black and white soft play, take regular trips to our local park with a range of equipment such as balls to roll and kick with. We will also be using our tents and tunnels for our children to explore. For our pre-walkers we will also be doing tummy time and walking practice either with walkers or hand over hand guidance to get those legs moving. We will have some focus on developing fine motor skills through lots of mark making activities such as chalk drawing and car painting. Lastly, we would like to say a big thank you to those of you who attended our Mother’s Day event. It was lovely to see you all there.
Home Mission:
Allow your child to self-feed at home. This will help develop their fine motor skills when holding a spoon as well as their hand eye co-ordination. You will be surprised at how well they can do!
Other reminders:
Please provide appropriate shoes as we will be going on walks, getting out of the buggy at the park to play! Don’t forget to sign your child in and out on a daily basis. Get posting on your child’s EyLog – Please ask us if you are not sure how to do this.

Please be aware that this may change weather depending. The week of the 29th we will begin our new topic by looking at zoo’s and sea’s.

After this time feedback cannot be given and unfortunately you will only receive your daily slip. We have brought this up on a number of occasions but if you come late and expect feedback this makes us late finishing our shifts. If you do not require a daily slip please let us know: these are very time consuming for us and we are finding them screwed up and thrown in cubby holes or in the lobby. If you do not wish for them let us know and we will stop it for you.

Please sign your children in and out of the room. Take your water bottles home to wash, these are not our responsibility. This is your choice to bring in a bottle, we provide children with clean cups and drinking water throughout the day.
Please try to be here 10 minutes before end of your child’s session for sufficient feedback. At the end of the day, we do need to finish our jobs before we are asked to leave by the cleaners. Once your child is ready and raring to go, please exit the building. Once you are in the room, your child is your responsibility. -
Please label all of your child’s belongings. We cannot be held responsible for things going home with other children if they do not have your name in them. Children will have items of clothing such as coats or gloves which will be the same, you can help us prevent this by writing your child’s name in labels. Can you also kindly return our spare clothes as we are running very very low.

A kind reminder that breakfast finishes at 9:00am, please come before 8:50 am, this allows your child time to eat and they will be eating socially rather than on their own.
