Harvard Park Day Nursery Feltham: October Newsletter 2017. News from the Managers, Nicki and Tracey and Deputy Manager, Carol – As we wave goodbye to Summer and welcome Autumn, we would like to say hello and welcome to our new families, friends and staff members. We would love to hear from you! If you have any feedback to give us, positive and constructive we would love to hear it. Our door is always open so pop in and see us sometime. We would like to welcome back Amy S from her travels and say an unexpected and sad goodbye to Soumia. She has had to leave us at short notice due to family reasons. We would also like to welcome back Pauline and Gemma who are running our before and after school club- The Tiger Club. They were both long standing and valued members of the Harvard Park team and we are glad to have them back. Please keep your eyes peeled for notices about Halloween on Facebook, email and in the lobby. We would like to say goodbye to one of our last older children to leave us, David. We hope you enjoy school and don’t forget to come back and say hello. We have some very important points below, so please read them carefully. Anti-Biotic and Sickness bugs: Our policy states that a child should not re-enter the building after their sickness and/or diarrhoea. They are highly contagious and can be spread to others with ease. If you child has been prescribed anti-biotic for whatever reason, they also should not enter the building until 48 hours after their first dose. Buggies: Baby Studio is filling up so please can you fold your buggies down and store them in the appropriate area. They do become a hazard for the door which is a fire exit. If you have a smaller buggy or a buggy that does indeed fold smaller, this would be very helpful. If your child is over two, where possible please try to avoid using the buggy. Door bell and Phone calls: We are hands-on managers and are occasionally covering in rooms, observing or assisting others. If you cannot see anyone in the office, we will be in and around the nursery. If the door is not answered on your first ring of the doorbell please be patient. We will get there in time. Our phone is also our business landline, so if you cannot get through on your first attempt, leave a message or try again five minutes later. The door in the lobby: This is a fire door which comes with risks. It is possible that if fingers get caught in the door when closing they will do damage. Please be aware of all little hands when entering and leaving the building. We do not wish for accidents. Please make sure all doors and gates in and around the nursery are closed behind you! This includes the gate entering Freedom Zone. Thank you. If you are on Facebook, we do have a Facebook page which gives you updates, notices and also an insight into both our settings and what special activities we get up to. Simply type in Harvard Park Day nursery and Preschool in the search bar and look for our logo. You can also leave a review here too. Please look out for EY log emails and if you have any questions regarding this, please come and see Amy S or Carol in the other office.

Photographer dates:

Baby Studio and Small Steps: Wednesday 11th October Freedom Zone: Thursday 12th October. If this is not your child’s day, but would like them to have a photo done, please see the managers to arrange an appointment. If you would like your child to wear a special outfit please bring it and we will change them. We wouldn’t want their outfits to get dirty whilst they eat breakfast or lunch and wait for their turn. If you have any questions please ask your key worker or room leader.

News from Baby Studio – Simran, Mary, Nabila, Roshelle and Amanda: Topic: Mark Making We will be focusing on using lots of different materials and objects to encourage our children to mark make. We will be using cars and spiky balls in paint as well as brushes, crayons and body parts! Mark making is good for a child’s physical development as well as their creative development, sensory and language development too. We would love for you to come and join us where possible.

Home Mission: Allow your child to feed themselves! It gives them the opportunity to explore textures, become more independent and work on their physical skills as well as co-ordination. We know it can get messy but put some newspaper under their chair or let them eat just in their nappy so they are ready for a nice bath afterwards!

Other reminders: - Please label your child’s belongings- clothes, bottles, bag, hats, coat etc. Children will end up with the same things and it prevents them from going missing or being taken home by someone else. - Signing in: It is a legal requirement for you to sign your child in and out of the building. It helps us in a fire evacuation and also child safeguarding. The board is by the door as you enter and leave. - Please be prompt when picking up and dropping off. If you require feedback, please arrive 10 minutes early. Also if your child will not be in, please remember to call the office. - The weather is changing so please dress your child appropriately for the weather. Thick winter coats and good shoes, we do go out in all weathers so bear this in mind when coming into nursery. Birthdays and other notes: We would like to wish Myra a very happy 2nd birthday for the 6th. We would also like to Wish Eden a happy 1st birthday for the 5th! Photo day is Wednesday 11th October! These will make perfect Christmas gifts. If it is not your day please see management to arrange an appointment.

Welcome to Rose May, Jadyn, Daniela, Kiyana and Ramiah. Goodbye to Kavin and Ishan who are moving up to freedom zone.

Topic: Sensory investigation and Getting to know you As we have more children coming into our room, we like to continue this topic for two months. We will be doing different activities to find out what children like, dislike and what their learning styles are. Please continue to send in your family photo’s as we would like to make our home corner more homely. You could also send in pictures of their favourite toys or bedrooms so we can explore the idea of our different likes.

Home Mission: We would like to encourage you to take photo’s of you and your child or family out on an autumn walk. Look at the changes in the leaves, introduce new words such as leaf, tree or Autumn. Post your new developments on the EY log! You can also do this on your way to nursery. Your posts to the EY log don’t have to include photos 

Important notices: - Please shut the room door behind you when you enter and leave. Topic: Music from around the world We will be doing lots of fun activities this month starting with creating our own musical instruments with junk modelling resources, listening and moving to music from other cultures and learning songs in different languages. This covers all 7 areas of development and is a really fun topic for staff and children! We will also be doing some Halloween activities too as well as a party so please keep your eyes peeled for further notice on this. Can we please make sure cubby holes are being cleared on a weekly basis too.

Home Mission: To create a musical instrument at home. This could be from using saucepans and spoons or a tissue box and rubber bands. Use your imaginations and (if you can) bring them in to show us! You can also post how you made them on the EY log. Explore sounds and get dancing! Birthdays and other notes: We would like to wish David a happy belated birthday for September! Important notices: - Please encourage your child to not take their name cards home. Our ICT consultant takes a lot of time making these and we have to replace some of them every week. Children are also getting upset when they cannot find theirs. Pick them up in the morning and then return them to the board in the evening. - Thank you for being patient while we sort out the peg situation. - The weather is changing so please dress your child appropriately for the weather. Thick coats and closed-in shoes are best at the moment. Please consider this before coming to nursery. - All about me boxes: if you still haven’t made one, or are unsure of what they are, please talk to your key worker and bring one in. They are great at helping children to settle in.
