this term will strengthen learning in the Four Specific Area’s Literacy:

Expressive Arts and Design:

-Letter sounds S A T P I N : hear and say the sounds of these letters. Alongside the first letter and sound of their names.

- Using positional language during activities.

- Encourage children to talk about Spring and what happens during this time i.e. baby animals are born, plants start to grow.

- Encourage and support small world and role play.

- Encouragement to write their names using phonic knowledge. - Focus on rich literary environment especially role play and the outside area. - Model oral blending of sounds to make words in used in everyday talk - Explain and attempt writing for different purposes such as lists, instructions or stories. - Introduce daily phonics sessions for those who are ready.

- Recognition of numbers 0-10 in familiar and practical contexts alongside reciting them in order. - Counting at different times of the day i.e. group time and meal. Also counting a range of objects such as pebbles, leaves, trees and outdoor equipment during play. - Focus on a rich mathematical environment especially outside - Provide activities which promote and develop counting skills - Focus on numbers that are personal to children i.e. age, amount of siblings or house/flat number.

- Creative areas for children to express themselves creatively.

- Look at how we grow plants and how we look after our environment and nature.

- Provide a range of creative materials for children to use during activities.

- Explore and base some activities around the life cycle of a butterfly.

- Provide a range of creative tools so children become familiar with their uses i.e. malleable, sticking or cutting.

- Provide stories that help children to make sense of different environments. - Trips in small groups to areas surrounding the local environment to provide opportunities to explore and topic of conversation.

How this term will strengthen the leaning in the Three Prime Area’s

- Begin to learn simple and familiar action songs.


Medium Term Planning Communication and Language: - Support children in developing listening and attention skills. - Create opportunities for children to talk with adults on a one to one basis as well as in small groups. - Daily story sessions to encourage increasing attention and recall alongside the use of props to support story telling.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:

Physical Development:

- Developing independence and focus on self-help skills i.e. dressing, undressing, putting coat on and taking it off alongside chopping fruit and pouring milk.

- Provide lots of opportunities for large physical movement i.e. balancing, climbing and construction equipment

- Managing own personal hygiene and being aware of the hygiene routine i.e. washing hands after toileting.

- Working alongside children to develop the use of tools i.e. spreaders, scissors and stapler.

- Creating opportunities for older children to support the younger ones.

- Encourage independence as young children explore particular patterns of movements or schemas. Provide activities to allow this.

- Set up listening are where children can listen to stories and rhymes.

- Using manners (magic words); please, thank you and can I ‌. ?

- Children will be encouraged to maintain attention and concentration during activities and respond to instructions.

- Provide physical activities that will support children’s friendships, such as kicking a ball back and forth to each other.

-Motivate children to be active through leadership games such as follow the leader or what’s the time Mr wolf.
