Katie Thisdell Editor-In-Chief The Breeze Dear Ms.Thisdell, JMU students have made a difference in Africa just by giving up a couple coffee drinks. That’s the basis of Mocha Club, a nonprofit that aids development projects in Africa. Two JMU students, Jeremy Cherry and Amy Gwaltney, represent the organization unofficially at JMU and have hosted a number of events to increase movement on campus. The most recent benefit event, “Mochas for Mocha,” occurred earlier this month at the home of a group of JMU students. Students gathered for free coffee and performances by Into Hymn and The Madison Project while learning about Mocha Club and fashionABLE; ten students signed up as others gathered info to sign up online. To continue Mocha Club’s outreach, Cherry and Gwaltney plan to host “Lyrics in the Lounge” at Clementine on April 6 featuring Brightwork and Andrew Rohlk, both JMU student musicians. Coordination with sororities and Into Hymn are also in progress to reach out to a variety of students. Coverage by The Breeze would be very beneficial to your audience and a great report for your newspaper as students enjoy reading feature pieces that promote social responsibility. With a school whose slogan is “Be the Change,” coverage on this event or a feature on the organization and its representatives would be most welcomed and highly read in your paper. I will contact you this week about arranging interviews with new Mocha Club members, campus representatives, and/or Mocha Club staff headquartered in Nashville, Tenn. Sincerely, Amy Gwaltney Mocha Club//fashionABLE
