Exploded view of Admin and Convention Block

Dwarka is an up-market and one of the most sought after residential areas in South-West Delhi. It has a large diversity within it’s population and the socio-cultural equipment available in the hands of the planners and decision makers could help in bridging the gap between different social and religious groups and generate a cohesive society. The aim was to design a socio- cultural center in Dwarka that identifies the spatial requirements and needs of the community which are translated into types and quality of spaces.

Form and Massing Nautilus Shell is characterized by involutes or convolute shells that are often used as an example of Golden Spiral. The ratio between each chamber maintains the harmony of nature and geometry.

Restaurant Interior Concept Design

Formal and informal sitting has been combined to give a unified feeling. More of four seater sitting in the form of red comfortable sofas in the middle and two seater dining in the periphery of high cream sofas. Red and white have been used to create a semi formal atmosphere.

Andrews Ganj is a vibrant site with interplay of highly promising neighbouring context. It’s dynamism is infectional and directs the observer winding down it’s roads. The aim of the project is to design a socially- integrated housing which caters to people from classes and induce a feeling of nurturing neighbourhood amogst the residents.

Residential Built Form Guidelines Medium sized Plot (500-2000sq.m)

Facade Treatment: • Balconies are preferred to be oriented facing the frontage with adequate shading and/or greening. • Utility Balconies shall be avoided along frontage and wherever unavoidable shall be adequately visually screened from frontage and the street. • All Services, ducts and AC / HVAC units shall be avoided facing frontage and wherever unavoidable shall be adequately visually screened from frontage and the street.

Parking visible to the street frontage shall be mandatorily screened. Boundary Treatment: • Boundary Edge along frontage and all abutting roads shall have a maximum 1.8m high wall / hedge, with at least 70% visual permeability after 0.75m height. • Boundary Wall / Hedge shall have a maximum height of 1.8m along all other sides. Planting Strip of width 1m is Mandatory along frontage and all abutting roads excluding entries and service screening.

Utility Screening is mandatory if visible from all abutting roads. Minimum screening height shall be atleast 0.45m above height of utility

Plot Address Signage shall be part of boundary treatment within 2m of entry gate. Text height shall be 0.15m to 0.30m.

Active Frontage • Active Use along Street Frontage - Daily Commercial, 60 sq.m or 5% of GFA whichever is minimum. • Boundary and Frontage Treatment along Commercial shall be in such a way to ensure easy visual access to the shop and signage; • Commercial Frontage may accomodate furniture such as seating, cycle racks, Dustbins. • Shading Ground floor Uses @ Street Level is mandatory through Awnings / Projections etc. to ensure human comfort. • Commercial Fenestration shall ensure a visual permeability of minimum 60% of the ground floor facade area from street.

Open Space

Cycle Parking shall be provided manadatorily for all plots. Open Spaces: • Atleast 20% of the Plot Area shall be Permeable. • Atleast 15% of Plot Area shall be Green Area planted with vegetation with a minimum of 60% tree canopy coverage.

Community Space shall be provided a minimum of 10% of Floor Area of the building to serve upto 20 residential units.

Interim Judicial Complex

Central Plaza serves as a gathering space for the people adding onto the “publicity� of the Govt. building as a wide spatial component; catering to social, political, cultural and recreational needs of the masses. It also acts as a vantage point for the public to admire the grandeur of the Judicial Complex. The central median design is key component to the design development of the Judicial Complex providing a foreground to the majestic architectural approach / style of the building.

Linear Greens (Urban Cool Spots) Concept Design

Proposed Linear Greens Area – 300 acres 10% Built Up is Proposed in all Linear Greens to activate the open spaces. Design considerations: • Ensure visibiltiy throughout linear green for ease of access between 50m and 17m roads and safety and security of users at different times of the day. • Provide shade through trees with large canopies while ensuring not to compromise on visibility. • Programming is zoned based on type of street - 50m road has eating spaces to cater to people passing by while daily commercial toward 17m road caters to needs of community.

Forced evictions and resettlement of central slums have become a common and inevitable part of the development of cities in the global South. One of the recent examples is the relocation of squatter settlements to the city margins to make way for infrastructural up gradation and cosmetic treatment. Savda Ghevra, as an ethnographically strategic site, offers insights into the ‘system’ or set of interrelations in which it is situated, which include the planner’s designs for the colony, households balancing residence against livelihood opportunities, women residents working for NGOs etc.

Neighbourhoods offer a sense of belongingness and security within its inhabitants which is seen absent in the current face of relocated neighbourhoods. As a result the present urban agglomeration is characterised by uncertainty, hostility and lack of responsibility towards the society giving rise to splintering neighbourhoods.

RESETTLEMENT COLONIES_ planned, formal, legitimate as well as legal, though with restrictions on the last count. They are planned in the sense that they are explicitly included within the development area of the master plan in a zone marked for residential use, laid out according to standards and norms for resettlement colonies in the master plan.
