Architecture Intern Wilmotte and Associés is an international firm based in Paris, France. This internship was a part of my final semester for my Master degree in Architecture. I had the opportunity of working with Eric Kittler, Jean Marc Rio, and Georges Kallab on mixed-use apartments in Romainville, France. Revit was the primary software. Architecture Intern This internship was focused on health care design and architecture. Working closely with Jana Bee Triplett, I focused on SurgCenter Developments for ambulatory surgery centers. My role was to create construction document sets in Revit for six surgery centers around the country. Architecture Intern I interned under Jay Tomlinson, Doug Stockman, and Evan Fox. This internship taught me how to use sketchup successfully, as most work revolved around translating hand drawings into computer site models for clients and presentations. Interior Design and Architecture Intern My work with interior designer, Jenn Isom with Isom Collective, allowed me to get one on one experience in the interior design industry on multi-family, mixed use apartments for EPC Real Estate. Projects include Avenue 80, Savannah West, Mission 106, Domain at City Center and 51 Main. In the same studio, I worked with architect Nicole Anderson Curry with Studio A Architecture. There was a heavy emphasis in Autocad on floor plans for EPC Real Estate. Projects include Rayzor Ranch, Westside Flats, and the District Flats. Vice President of Membership Elected by Exec Committee to lead the entire rush / recruitment. As a leader and communicator of ideas, I led teams of artists with my designs. It was a unique experience of combining my creativity, art, design, style, and visualization to turn it into something real. I educated 200 women on the process of rush for two years.

l’École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Val de Seine Paris, France — Fall 2019 — Professor Jean Mas and Pierre Engel — Revit | Rhino | Sketchup | AutoCad InDesign | Illustrator | Photoshop

For the final year of my master degree, I studied in Paris, France at ENSAPVS for the fall semester. One of my four courses was with Jean Mas in the Alto Studio. I worked on an urban planning project in Romainville, France. This community project was the is the biggest site I’ve had the opportunity to work on; about 1,500 feet in length. It is an upcoming area for residents just outside of Paris who need more dense housing. Part of the challenge was deciding how to repurpose the existing highway that cuts through the site. It was decided to turn it into a New York inspired highline for pedestrian and bicycle use.

The second course was a workshop with Pierre Engel for a housing project in Talange, France. People who live in the French countryside have the possibility to live a life with more floor space, green space, and car space. One of city’s struggles is the yearly flooding, resulting in a building code to have livable spaces three meters, or nine feet above ground level.

United States Federal Court House Des Moines, Iowa — Spring 2019 — Professor John Trefry — Revit | Rhino | Illustrator | InDesign | Watercolors

The Federal Courthouse in Des Moines is in the process of being redesigned and relocated in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The federal courthouses in America follow a very strict program, keeping the public, prisoners, and staff in three separate paths of circulation. As a building that is owned by and for the public, my partner Nick and I designed a courthouse that is both hard and soft, extroverted, symmetrical, and hierarchical in its form. Looking to nature for inspiration, the shape resembles a butterfly’s center core and wings, helping guide the movement of the facade in its unique shape. This studio asked the students to design a courthouse that is complete in programming, circulation, structure, and mechanics.

Health and Wellness Lawrence, Kansas — Summer 2018 — Professor Kadim Al-Asady and Kapila D. Silva — Rhino | AutoCad | InDesign | Illustrator Photoshop Sketchup | Rhino | AutoCad InDesign | Illustrator | Photoshop As an important node to the beginning of downtown in Lawrence, Kansas, is the intersection of 11th and Massachusetts Street. Implementing a health and wellness center along the pathways of urban activity, as one is introduced to the city, can help promote a healthy lifestyle. The health and wellness center focuses on holistic and preventive care to serve the community. Using five floors, this building consists of hydrotherapy pools, saunas, massage rooms, a cafe, juice bar, exterior plaza, weight training and machine areas, silent and social gardens, as well as yoga and meditation spaces. These spaces are beneficial for improving and promoting physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.

The Green House

Kansas City, Kansas — Fall 2018 — Professor Shannon Criss — Sketchup | Revit | InDesign | Illustrator | Photoshop | Lumion

Wyandotte County, located in Kansas City, Kansas, has a life expectancy of 19 years less than its neighboring county, Johnson. When community leaders gathered in the neighborhoods of DouglasSumner and Turtle Hill they asked about how to provide affordable housing that improves quality of life. Douglas-Sumner community activists, Broderick and Beverly, want to create a destination that will attract their youth back to the city. The community needs a place that gets kids involved, where neighbors get out and get to know one another, who eat healthy, and cook fresh foods, while also increasing physical activity. Beau Heyen, the CEO of NourishKC, is offering a mixed opportunity to provide housing with employee benefits. NourishKC is able to improve quality of life by implementing a system of farm to table while bringing sustainable architecture, safety, and food security under one roof; thus allowing the community to be set up for improved health access. The Green House project embodies all of these elements. The goal is to improve, provide, and extend a piece of environmental architecture that helps the community heal, learn, and grow. This mixed-use building is the next generation of multi-family housing. Place making through housing, third spaces, dynamic activity, and healthy farming will all serve multiple purposes in creating a better block. 17

Design-Build / MAKERSPACE

Dirtworks Makerspace Design-Build Studio

Lawrence, Kansas — Spring 2018 — Professor Chad Kraus — Design-Build

In my third year I chose a design-build studio where we repurposed and renovated a space in Marvin Hall, a 109 year old building into a makerspace studio. The idea was to create a space that could bring multiple studios together for a uniquely shared learning experience. To achieve this goal, all interior walls of the space were demolished, a hidden stone wall was exposed, floor tile removed, hvac, plumbing and electrical rerouted, and innovative materials and designs were built and implemented. Serving as the Project Manager Studio Coordinator, I made our critical path schedules and led daily meetings to ensure the studio was on track to complete each week’s tasks. In addition, I had client meetings with engineers, the university chief of the fire department, electricians, Herman Miller, and the dean’s advisory board. Each student also took part in the CD set that was sent to the state for approvals. These exposures and design changes allowed the space to reveal natural, rich materials to enhance the white walls and large windows spanned throughout the space. Today the Makerspace is used by students who say it is a privilege.

Wilmotte et Associés

Paris, France — Spring 2020 — Revit | Autocad | Photoshop | Illustrator

Wilmotte et Associés is an international firm based in Paris, France. This internship was a part of my final semester for my Master Degree in Architecture. I had the opportunity of working with Eric Kittler, Jean Marc Rio, and Georges Kallab on mixed-use apartment buildings. The city of Paris is at full capacity, so architects and developers are designing dense housing outside of the Paris city loop. Wilmotte is in charge of a large project in Romainville, France, just northeast of Paris. The housing is being developed alongside a new tram system that will further extend the Paris public transportation system outside of the city. Wilmotte is trying to create and provide a culture that promotes artists and studio spaces for the younger generation. My work consisted mostly in revit to provide floor plans and elevations for our clients.

Gastinger Walker&

Kansas City, Missouri — Summer 2019 — Revit | Autocad | Bluebeam | Lumion | SketchUp | Photoshop

Gastinger Walker& is a mid-size firm headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. The firm focuses on five areas of architecture: work, live, learn, heal and play. During this internship, I focused on “heal” and I worked with our client SurgCenter Development who builds surgical centers across the US averaging about 8,000SF in size. I created construction document sets for six different projects around the country. I found new finishes for future SurgCenters including fabrics, wall coverings, laminates, paints, carpets, LVT, and quartz stones to create a sense of calm while focusing on soothing materials for patients. Aside from the heal sector of work, two of the firm’s managing partners, Kevin Harden and Donna Buck, asked the four interns to develop a research study based on their largest sector of business, work. Kevin and Donna wanted to know the new world trends in regards to the work environment. We focused on the key trends of wellness, space, technology and demographics in the workplace. I personally did extensive research with an emphasis on wellness. We then reached out to nine clients of Gastinger Walker& and performed a series of interviews, in person or by phone. The research and structured interviews were used as methods for data collection, documentation, analysis, and a development of key findings. This information was then formatted to create a white paper and presentation available for the firm and clients to use as a tool for education.

Isom Collective

Kansas City, Missouri — Summer 2016 / 2017 — Autocad | Photoshop | Indesign

Jenn Isom is an independent interior designer for residential and commercial interior design. I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Jenn as I began my studies in interior architectural design. EPC Real Estate is one of Isom Collective’s biggest commercial clients, who together create mixed use and multi-family apartments. During this internship, Jenn taught me what goes into the creation of interior design. Lighting, flooring, wall coverings, furniture, art, and spatial layouts were designed for individual projects. A few of the EPC Real Estate projects I had a role in are Avenue 80, Mission 106, Domain at City Center, and Savannah West.

DESSINS DRAWINGS Paris, France — Fall 2019 — Professor Christian Morandi — Pencil, Watercolors, Lightroom

Professor Morandi’s arts plastiques class was a joy in drawing. Each class took place in a different area of Paris. Upon my palette of locations where I practiced the art of perspective drawing was the Grande Mosquée de Paris, along the Seine River, at Galeries Lafayette, Montmartre, and Musee du Louvre.

Metalsmithing

Metalsmithing

Lawrence, Kansas — Spring 2017 — Professor Spencer Dickerson

My initial interest in design and art came from textiles and metalsmithing. Using different materials, styles and shapes led me to the architecture field. It allows me to combine my love for artistic design and style into the art of architecture. This metalsmithing studio taught me how to use my hands in designing, shaping, forming and structuring metal pieces of art. I quickly found a new passion for creating beautiful wearable pieces. This studio required projects based on symmetry, box rings, a wearable piece, and a container. Using materials of silver, mixed gold, and copper, many techniques were used like: riveting, annealing, looping, bezeling, patinas, and buffing.

The Art of Sitting in a Chair

Lawrence, Kansas — Spring 2016 — Professor Linda Talleur

Using the simplicity of cardboard, students were asked to make a sitable chair soley with cardboard. No tape, no glue. Structurally bound with corrugated cardboard. Knowing that triangles are one of the strongest shapes, the internal structure of the chair is made of two sets of hexagonal forms. One for the seat and one for the back. Ultimately each strip of cardboard was folded into these structural forms, creating its final design.
