GYMNASIUM Century sqare, the new development located across from Texas A&M University is being developed by Midway Companies, a real estate company. The intent of Phase I of Century Square was designed to bring in a new mixed use destination for people of all ages to create a walkable environment and urban district that would attract young professionals and families. Phase I of Century Square created an upscale development which include a higher end to the College Station area. Phase 1 of Century square is to include retail and restaurants, luxury apartments, hotels, and leasing office space. Phase two would continue its alignment with existing streets that connect to existing entrances to Texas A&M University as well as its parallel streets on College Avenue and around the site. The project objective was to develop Phase 2 of Century Square. With Century Square and its phase one intended to be a mixed use destination with more affordable housing, a grocery store, retail and restaurants, leasing office spaces, a Dave and Busters for entertainment, parking garage, and its prime destination a gymnasium.
PHASE 1 OF CENTURY SQUARE
CENTURY SQUARE PHASE 1 AND 2
The Gymnasium located at the corner of University Drive and College Avenue would be the target destination of phase two to century square. The Gymnasium provides the best connection to Texas A&M University as well to Century Square and its surroundings. The Gymnasium would provide students and surrounding residents a comfortable and reliable place to meet their exercise needs and desires with the comfort of being close by. The structure would provide a multi-use facility would enable it to rent out spaces for retail and restaurant use on the northeastern part of the building allowing for revenue to surge. Within the structure, basketball courts, boxing rings, private and public classes are offered, yoga rooms, racquet ball, weight rooms, plenty of equipment, an indoor trace, dance halls, lockers, office space, and a massage station would be available. With its open floor plan plenty of sitting areas are available to guest who are tired and ready to rest after a successful workout. A large beautiful glass faรงade adorns the southeastern faรงade of the building illuminating the interior of the building.

THE AUSTIN BRAZOS CENTER
MIDRISE OFFICE BUILDING We are to design a multi-level office building on a busy area in downtown Austin, Tx. The location, 501 Brazos St., is a busy area and it’s about a block away from 6th Street. Austin is of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and because of that, one of our goals is to design a building that can keep up with the quick development of the city. This means designing a building that is sustainable, high tech, and aesthetically appealing. Our first floor was designed to welcome the public offering a coffee shop, a bar, located on the northern part of the building, and a few spots to eat. Floors 2-6 are solely office space, both open space and enclosed office areas, computer labs, and conference rooms. We want a building that can stand out as time goes on without it being outdated. Our concept of the Austin Brazos Center came from researching The Bullitt Center, located in Seattle Washington, and achieving a well-designed sustainable building. We are aiming to meet the 2030 challenge, which is a challenge to reduce Green House Gas emissions given off by the inefficient buildings and the production of materials. The 2030 challenge is a challenge aimed at the architecture community and the goal is to obtain zero carbon emissions by 2030. To address the problem we will be adapting techniques that can help us achieve a more efficient building. One of the main solutions to the problem was to use a structure that didn’t need any processing and was kept at its natural state along with the use of photovoltaics in the building to achieve a net zero energy. Aside from the construction types we are using, we have designed a white roof that not only bounces off heat energy because of its color but it also holds the photovoltaic panels.

CONSTRUCTION TYPE 1B: SITE CAST CONCRETE
• CONCRETE IS VERY FLEXIBLE, AFORDABLE, AND ABLE TO HANDLE ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF COMPRESSION. • CONCRETE WOULD ALSO HELP TO CARRY THE LOADS OF THE TIMBER STRUCTURE BUILDING. CONSTRUCTION TYPE 4: HEAVY TIMBER • GLUED LAMINATED TIMBERS ARE VERY STRONG AND WOULD ALLOW FOR STORED CARBON. • TIMBER WOOD WORKS WELL FOR VERTICAL LOADING AND IS VERY DUCTILE.
C O N C R E T E ADVANTAGES: • CONCRETE IS AN ECONOMICAL MATERIAL • DURABLE AND RESILIENT • READILY AVAILABLE • EASE OF FABRICATION •EASE TO INCORPORATE MECHANICAL SYSTEMS DISADVANTAGES: • CONCRETE IS LABOR INTENSIVE • TAKES 3 DAYS TO CURE IN NORMAL TEMPERATURES • WEATHER HAS TO BE JUST RIGHT OR IT CAN DELAY CONSTRUCTION

RACHEL WHITEREAD ART MUSEUM
Each team of two was given an artist. Rachel Whiteread is known to give materiality to unfamiliar spaces and uses her talent to transform the domestic into the public. All of her art work showcases the expression of absence and loss by sculpting a solid out of what is normally void. Each sculpture was plastered in concrete leaving behind all imprints of the objects lifetime. Each individual gallery space was designed specifically for each of Rachel’s individual sculptures and sketches. A simplistic design of the building was made to showcase her pieces of artwork. The Rachel Whiteread Art Museum showcases magnificent pieces such as Book Corridors, 25 Spaces, Black Bed, Stairs, Bath, and some of her sketches. Light wells are located above most of her sculptures to allow a good visual contact with the art work and transmit the use of natural daylighting within the museum and gallery spaces. The simplicity of the public, private, and circulation spaces is very apparent to the viewer. Located on Riverside Hill Dallas, Texas, the museum has a garden area that looks out into the great view of the Dallas skyline.

CASTIGLION F I O R E N T I N O , I TA LY CONVENTION CENTER
Castiglion Fiorentino is located in the provice of Arezzo in eastern Tuscany. Just like any other town in Italy, it is surrounded by a train station that Italians use as means of transportation. The obejctive of this study abroad project was to work in groups of three and create a facility that would best suite the town. This Convention Center would serve as a place where locals could gather as well as a perfect spot for tourist wanting to explore the facinating Chianti Valley. The Convention Center serves as a central grount providing a local means of hospitality and an easy access to the train station and surrounding towns. Within the Convention Center there is also a theater, several classrooms where locals can teach arts, and a magnificent view of the Chianti Valley at our fine dine restaurant.
The ground floor consists of the lobby for check in as well as the breakfast area in the northern part of the building. The southern entrance serves as the theater lobby. The second floor contains hotel rooms on the northern part of the building and on the sounthern end the theater. The third floor has more hotel rooms and private classroom for whatever class being held. The best view of Castiglion Firoentino and its tower is located on the fourth floor where the restaurant it located.

This project was to be located in San Marcos, Tx to replace the existing small and compacted one. This facility would be used to house and exhibit different types of reptiles, plants, and butterflies. Administrative offices, children classroom, a cafe/bookstore, and exterior walkways would make this an extrodinary place to visit. The concept of this Nature Center was movement. The facility is located within the hilly terain of San Marcos. Using its’ natural stone and wood to create its facade and interiors this facility would be an extraordinary place to spend the day exploring.

SENIOR LIVING FACILITY NURSING HOME
This living facility was to be located in downtown Bryan, Texas. Eleven senior residence were to be housed with accomidations to their age. The object of this project was to get an insight of what our citizens need as they age and what design, color, and materials are to benefit and make them feel at home as well as incorporate the facility with its surroundings. Within the facility, a coffee shop, small library, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, spacious kitchen and lounge, and beautiful outdoor gardens can be found. Exterior brick facade, warm home-like color interiors, covered patios, comforable seating, lots of natural light make this facility a great living space for our retired senior citizens to live comfortbly.
HOW TO MAKE A SENIOR FEEL LIKE HOME TRANSITIONING INTO A SENIOR LIVING ENVIRONMENT Although moving into a senior living community may be the right decision for most seniors, moving away from home can be quite hard for many elderly who have lived in the comfort of their home for many years. Not being surrounded by family, familiar smells, daily hobbies and or activities, or by family pets can lead an elder to a serious problem of stress and depression. Waking up in a new bedroom, with new neighbors, and learning the ins and outs of that particular new home can be a challenge for them. With research, it was found that encouraging each individual senior to be able to personalize their individual rooms makes their transition into a senior home move a lot smoother.
HELPING SENIORS FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THEIR NEW HOME It is encouraged to change the color of their new bedroom to one they are more comfortable with. Personal tastes, styles, and textures are extremely important to allow each individual resident feel that their comfort is important and taken into consideration by their loved ones. Photographs are an important element for the resident to have. Being able to see pictures from all corners of the bedroom helps a senior feel at home and surrounded with familiar faces. Being able to see these photographs are also an important part of their everyday lives because being able to see them help with memory support, remembering their family and themselves. Aside from photographs, elders living in a senior community are encouraged to bring along accessories which can be used to decorate their bedroom and bring along hobbies such as kitting. Being able to live a normal life as possible at a senior home as they did in their own home is very important. Encouraging hobbies and activities allows for them to feel more involved into the community and distract themselves from the loneliness that may arise. Being able to move in with familiar furniture they are custom to seeing and feeling is also encouraged not only for the comfort of the familiarity of the furniture but also for the possible interesting conversations that might enlighten the resident from the potential visitors they might have. Being surrounded with familiar smells such as coffee or popcorn is another great feature to allow our seniors to feel more at home and also helps serve as a calming aromatherapy.
SOCIAL INTERACTION ENCOURAGEMENT Seniors who isolate themselves in their bedroom tend to suffer depression. A great medicine to help seniors living in senior homes is feeling useful, loved, and cared for by their family and staff. Having family and friends visit is a great way to elevate their spirits. Having family visit frequently helps as they transition to their new home for meeting other residents may be a bit frightening and might take a while to get used to. Even after living at a senior living residents for a years, seniors tend to feel quiet lonely. Allowing residents to take part of active roles such as a door greeter, welcoming visitors near the front entrance, allows the resident to socialize with people and taking them away from isolation. It is important for them to remain active whether it is inside or outside. Keeping them busy with activities they can and will enjoy adds comfort to their everyday lives and allows for them to feel useful. Activities such as knitting, interactive games such as bingo, or having their own little garden to plant in allows for them to feel open to the outside and helps stimulate social interaction within the senior resident.
HOME LIKE FEELING Our goal as architects and designers is to find the best care for our elders as they age and become less capable of moving around. Providing way to help them stay interactive as possible and full of life is what designing is all about. Finding ways to help their stay at a senior living residence by keeping them encouraged, positive, active, but most importantly as comfortable in the best way possible is the goal.
BLACK AND WHITE COMPOSITION DYNAMIC
The purpose was to create a black and white composistion using combinations of white/black squares, dimonds inside squares and/or circles inside squares and avoiding focal points. I chose the word “Dynamic because growing up my life has had certain drastic changes but above all I have learned to deal with the emotional rollercoasters.
3 DIMENSIONAL CUBE DYNAMIC
The different sizes and different angled cubes create depth and help with the identification of both positive and negative space. They are to represent the word Dynamic.
