BA.16

DESIGN DISTRICT BARRIO ANTIGUO, MONTERREY, N.L. DENSIFICATION Competition “Grand Prize of Young Architecture” 2014 // 8th semester In collaboration with: Lysette Velázquez, Idalia Estrada, Oscar Safi y Jae Yoon.

BA.16 is a project designed to revive a valuable area that is part of the history of Monterrey. The main purpose of the same is to densify through the utilization of the centers of block, as well as consolidated plots and buildings available. With BA.16 Barrio Antiguo recovers life and becomes the new DESIGN DISTRICT of the city.

THE SITE

LOCATION: Barrio Antiguo, Monterrey Nuevo Le贸n.

DESIGN PROCESS DENSIFICATION + CULTURE Being Barrio Antiguo one of the few areas of Monterrey that still tells the story of the city, the objective is to restore it as a historic, resort and cultural center, making it an area with day and night life for people of all ages.

2.- CULTURE = HISTORIC HIGH VALUE UNINHABITED BUILDINGS Of the uninhabited buildings that were found, those of high historical value were detected to be preserved, restored and converted into CULTURAL PAVILIONS.

1.- DENSIFICATION = EMPTY SPACES For the densification, first the empty spaces were located, both, without construction as the centers of apple, and those constructed but that are currently unoccupied.

DENSIFICATION RESULTS

TYPE OF APARTMENTS AND BUILDINGS In order to respect the urban scale of Barrio Antiguo, two types of residential buildings are proposed.

In the centers of apple sets of four stories high are designed, while the land adjacent to Av. Constitution arise fifteen stories high, achieving mitigate the traffic noise from the avenue to drain into the neighborhood.

In both cases three types of departments that make up the building are proposed, which helps to diversify the local population. pop The second floor of all buildings is intended for public use creating spaces for the community.

Beyond the densification of the neighborhood, the project proposes a cultural regeneration of the area, since densification is not just to increase the concentration of people but to improve the quality of life of the users of the site. So a tour is introduced to raise the discovery of the old neighborhood through 16 pavilions. These arise from the connection of buildings of high historical value and the steel structures at a second level, creating a network of cultural, recreational and entertainment spaces.
