Analøg #1 / Summer 2013
Hannah Lipowsky hannahlipowsky.com
For her work falling, Lipowsky had the chance to work with professional dancer Leyla de Muynck. The series plays with the illusion of falling, the paradox of a total loss of control displayed almost perfectly.
Daan Roukens norestfortheobsessed.com
Daan Roukens is a Dutch artist who is best known for his abstract paintings, vibrant colours, patterns and his obsessive search for the repetitive. Working across multiple mediums, such as painting, design and installation,
Roukens continuously pursues the ultimate balance. Derived from the everyday recognizable, his work challenges the viewer to experience form, colour and composition in a minimal manner. Each painting is created manually, without the use of masking tape, and is a dynamic process from beginning to end.
Hovard Design hovarddesign.com
Hovard Design is a creative studio based in Brooklyn, New York with expertise in branding, packaging, print, and interactive. The studio has a passion for visual storytelling. Hovard Design developed and manages the Hudson Made brand (hudsonmadeny.com)—an online retailer specializing in artisanal products made in New York’s
Hudson Valley and North Country regions, as well as in Brooklyn. Key among these products are their Worker’s Soap (left) and Beard & Shave Soap (right), both of which contain a unique mix of essential oils. Hudson Made’s branding and packaging is influenced by late-nineteenth century letterpress, hand-cut wood typography and one-color printing on uncoated papers.
Ryan Paul Galea facebook.com/rgaleaphotography
Much of Galea’s work explores notions of unconscious expression and the helplessness which is exposed through shame, guilt, anger, and depression — yet still expressing triumph and survival.
Darius Ou Dahao dhesign.sg
It’s now, or never. This piece, entitled “It’s now”, is from a series called Autotypography, a year-long project committed to creating a typographic poster daily. Autotypography also serves as a platform for practice & experimental treatments.
Allan RenĂŠ allan-rene.com
Allan RenĂŠ (1986) creates personal pop-art. Many recognise their own youths and (guilty) pleasures in his works. The indigo kid unravels the beauty and importance of objects that often, because of their self-evident presence or because
they have fallen into oblivion, remain unnoticed. By isolating things from their natural context and by magnifying them, things we take for granted revive and suddenly manifest themselves as representatives of an era that slipped away as we grew up or mirrors our current attitude.
Mainstudio mainstudio.com
Mainstudio is an Amsterdam based graphic design studio, founded by Edwin van Gelder in 2005. The studio creates projects deriving from the intersection of art, architecture and fashion — including publications, digital media, and visual identities. Each project is characterized by a content driven editorial approach, led by typography, creating a synthesis of form and content. The studio
embeds inventive printing techniques within traditional media, and explores innovative interaction design within its digital output. Mainstudio has been honoured with extensive international awards, including the ‘Best Book Design Worldwide’ 2013, the ‘Best Dutch Book Design’ 2011 and 2012 and the ‘Art Directors Club New York’ 2009. Clients included: Ammodo, Arnhem Fashion Fiennial, Frame Publishers, IIT Architecture Chicago, Mondriaan Foundation, Phaidon Publishers and Wiel Arets Architects.
Justin Caruana justincaruana.com
Justin is a Maltese photographer, who likes to experiment with high contrast photography. There is still a lot of experimentation surrounding each shoot, to ensure that his style can evolve with each shot taken.
