1.1. Introduction
, a family label
established to grant unique
timeless fashion emphasizing the value of craftsmanship, quality and sustainability.
To offer the Spanish fashion market a luxury sustainable
brand which creations scape from fleeting fashion trends,
and collections don’t follow the traditional seasonal calendar.
For women who seek only the finest.
1.2. Executive summary This report researches and examines an attentive angle and orientation of a business plan for Luxury Sustainable brand monsó. Analysing design concerns around creating a brand that doesn’t go “out of fashion”, therefore it is never “in fashion”. Questioning the contemporary consuming habits, focusing and promoting a slow philosophy. Values. Examining the values and design ethos that monsó focuses all the brand’s signature style around. The groundwork to offer throughout all the collections uniqueness and quality in the craftsmanship, selection of fabrics, and design. Aims and objectives. The target points to aim for the brands growth through sustainability, craftsmanship and different kind of shopping experience. Consumer. This area will give a detailed idea of the monsó consumer through qualitative and quantitative research.
Competitors. Exploring a range of functional, similar price point and aesthetic competitors, to give a better understanding of what is available and missing in the luxury market.
Range breakdown and
market. Price architecture and product range breakdown, analyzing both the competitors and the consumers data gathered. Offering a responsive and conscious range which is harmonized with the brands ethos.
Marketing opportunities. Analyzing the marketing opportunities, the chosen location, the collaborations, and the Advertising strategies. monsó’s sensitivity. An insight to the design inspirarion and direction of the brand’s 2020 collection. Looking at the monsó’s family house’s past present and future.
The family’s house The concept of the brand dives into the expression of my own identity through the narrative of memory in family, place,
experience and the material
environment; all connected to my grandmother’s house. Looking at the influence of the trace of time on both the old house and the
family, and how it has affected
my aesthetic as a creative. It is
also a story of femininity, as the house has been passed from
woman to woman since several generations ago.
Imperfection as perfection The project also aims to explore the imperfection as perfection, looking at the broken, decadent and worn-out surfaces and objects in the building, as well as in the
family; rearticulating the notion of the beauty and perfection and how one can choose to perceive this.
2.1. Aims and objectives Spanish Sustainable luxury market The brand positions itself in the Spanish
sustainable luxury market, which provides
the brand with strengths such as: high quality, long lasting products, protection of wildlife and natural conservancy, fare trade and functionality. These factors allow the brand
to have a social impact due to the popularity of ethical and sustainable products in the current market.
Therefore, the brand can afford the dis-
advantage of to creating very expensive
products which are limited and require a
long time for production, whilst still having
profitability. Furthermore, the brand will be eschewing from the conventional fashion
calendar, delivering the new collections at a slower peace.
* *
monsó’s house The main objective of the brand is to create a concept store in
Barcelona in collaboration with all
the members of the monso family, in other to build for the consumer a different kind of shopping experience. A highly refined, personal and cultural space to be
explored like a private residence
and where consumers are invited to be inspired. The store, or in
better words, the gallery, would not only showcase the brand’s fashion collection, but also the
artwork by artist Rosa (Monsó)
Galindo and the interiors and fur-
niture design by monsoxconsegal architects.
2.2. Collaborations The main ones
The house will have a permanent exhibition of the family’s artwork. The
one made by Rosa Galindo, Francisco Monsó and Borja Monsó Galindo, as well as the fashion brand by Ana Monsó Galindo.
•
ROSA GALINDO Mother of the
brand’s designer.
She creates large colorful abstract paintings representing her imaginary world. The artist
focuses on painting the reverse of plexiglass to have a playful relationship with the paint,
the transparency, and the opaque surfaces. Her artwork will be exhibited through the store. •
MonsoXConsegal ARCHITECTS (mx-
carquitectos) Francisco Monsó and Borja Monsó Galindo. Father and brother of the brand’s designer.
MxC is an Architecture and Consulting studio based in Barcelona. The philosophy of
the studio is to create unique spaces making a sustainable and profitable solution of
every corner. They will design the harmonious space for luxury, intimacy and culture, the gallery.
3.1. The monsรณ woman
The target consumer are confident, stylish
and cool Spanish women
of all ages who put thought
and consideration into their
choice of purchase, with an interest in art and design.
They do not follow trends, but
price products that last forever,
and do believe in multi-generational design. Women that care about slow-fashion, ethical fashion and green living.
There’s a gap in the
Spanish luxury sustainable fashion, and women
are striking for a brand
that provide ethical values. They pay attention to
honest brands that show a radical transparency.
They like to see where the product comes from and
craftsmanship, caring
about longevity, detail
and exclusive high-quality products .

6.1. Brand name The brand has an eponymous name, the family name. With the name monsรณ the brand aims to transmit the concept and values of the brand to the con-
sumer, being a family run business that merges past, present and future together, and aims to approach consumers of all generations.
6.2. Logotype The brand’s logotype was created through exploring the different ways of
handwriting the surname ‘Monsó’ by each one of the members of the fam-
ily. The one that was finally considered to become the ‘digitalized’ was the
designer’s handwriting, as it was a way to emphasize the importance of the clothing label within the family’s brand.
Final logotype
Borja Monsó Galindo (brother)
Francisco Monsó de Prat (father)
Rosa Galindo (Monsó) (mother)
Ana Monsó Galindo (designer)
6.3. Packaging
In order to create the packaging, the artist Rosa Galindo (designer’s mother)
is going to collaborate. She collects all the wet wipes she uses while painting as pieces of art. The idea would be to create the packaging by sewing the
collected wet wipes together and making bags. This will allow not only recycling, but also giving the consumer a packaging that could be later deconstructed and be hang-up as a piece of art, as a poster.
6.4. Labels & Tags
Art work by the brand’s designer using small pieces of eco-resin
with flowers conected with wire.
A response to the Family’s house environment.
The idea would be to create
tags out of eco-resins and real flowers. Which could be kept
as key-fob, and as a piece of design. The tag would also
have engraved the name of the brand in it. This would
be a way to promote uniqueness and exclusivity within
the brand, as none of the tags would be the same.
The design inspiration explores the narrative which has been created through photographs, belongings, texts, connections to people and the space of the house. These inspire the mood, colour palette and textiles. Looking at pictures and family heirlooms, and listing to memories from when I was a child to several generations ago. The romanticism of the memories and the decadent aesthetic will be explored through surface manipulation, printed and painted textiles, and silhouette references, derivative of old family members.

Frozen Beauty
9. Final looks The concept will stand out in the market
place because of its romanticism and be-
cause of its timeless fashion. The house has a frozen beauty from the past and it is revis-
ited by the new habitants, its beauty is alive, it is a dance between the different past eras and the different family members, which is
what the brand aims to transmit through the
garments. This gives the brand and the con-
sumer the opportunity to have a product that produces a feeling of nostalgia and uniqueness, an opportunity to have a garment that lasts forever.

PRODUCT EVALUATION AS-C-19-01 ‘CUADERNO’ TOP As of 20th March 2020, the progress of this loose top with a shapped dropped shoulder was at good stage. The garment had been toiled 6 times, and it was ready for the final sample with facings. The overall fit on the body was effective in terms of heigth and width, but it is quite tight on the shoulders and armhole. Nevertheless this tightness was the outcome that the designer was aiming for. The darts on the armhole deliver a perfectly shaped shoulder, providing the excat silhouette initially designed. The top is opened and closed through the back, and it is closed with ‘vintage’ laces from the designer‘s Grandmother’s lace collection. Furthermore, following a ‘vintage’ and unperfect aesthetic, the edges of the garment are left raw, attatched to a facing by topstitching and hand-sewing. Moreover, the top showcases a print inspired in the cover of the designer‘s Grandmother’s family album. Hence the name of the print and the top ‘Cuaderno’, meaning album in Spanish. The garment will be crafted in small ateliers located in Barcelona, created with the best quality and expertise to ensure the support of local production.

PRODUCT EVALUATION AS-C-19-02 ‘CUADERNO’ TROUSERS As of 20th March 2020, the progress of this wide leg palazzo trousers was at good stage. The garment had been toiled 3 times, and it was ready for the final sample with facings. The overall fit on the body was effective in terms of heigth and width, being extremly wide on the bottom. TROUSERS . Tech file - First drape/toile
First pattern for trousers (wide)
I decided that for this outfit the less wide trousers that i had created before worked perfectly.
waistbands are 5cm wide and shaped.
I didn’t need to do this anymore. I changed the pattern by tracing drape on paper
slicing the length of the trousers through two places in order to add width on the hem of the trousers
