An EVEN Formula For An ODD Problem! Making Cities Breathable...
CEO’s Note
Overview
Looking at the Delhi skyline during winters, it is understandable that gone are the days when we had fresh air to breathe. T h e i r re p a ra b l e d a m a ge d o n e by unsustainable anthropogenic ac vi es is actually hi ng us back. However, its not a point of no return, rather an opportunity to make sincere efforts to protect and conserve our environment from further degrada on.
Delhi, being in the news for its toxic air quality for the past fe w ye a rs , fi n a l l y woke up to an extreme measure to reduce further emissions and hope for a cleaner air this January. The # O d d Ev e n S c h e m e that has been previously being implemented in various other ci es globally to curb air pollu on was something that was both supported and cri cised by the people. Though sta s cs suggest that only a er long term implementa on of significant measures can bring down the pollu on in NCR, the age old problem of traffic conges on was something that was definitely solved. Now, it will be interes ng to know how other ini a ves such as increasing green cover, vaccum cleaning of roads, ban on burning of wastes and shu ng down of the pollu ng industries will be enforced in future. There needs to be collec ve efforts from individuals, companies and government to bring in the change through an -pollu on measures such as carpooling, greener technologies etc alongwith improvement of public transport.
The start of 2016 saw some stern ac on taken by the Delhi Government and Na onal Green Tribunal to curb the rising pollu on levels in the Na onal Capital Region. Although, experts ques oned the viability of the road ra oning plan, but Delhiites (despite their daily problems) came out to support the 15 day ini a ve. Today, the me has come for people to collaborate and change our a tude towards prac ces that affects the environment and society at large. We cannot let our future genera ons suffer from the mistakes that we commit today. So, let's pledge to make our na on clean, green and a be er place to live.
