The Year Gone By The year 2014 was the year of Change as far as India is concerned. As India continues to take giant strides for mankind, it has now made a mark for itself as a global powerhouse. India after 30 long years witnessed a single party majority in the 16th Lok Sabha elections with the most popular leader Narendra Modi as its 15th Prime Minister. While states like Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Haryana witness regime change, Jammu and Kashmir saw a hung parliament with record number of voter turnout. 2014 saw the birth of a new state, Telangana, ending a 60 year long struggle. Bitter rivals, both India and Pakistan continued cross border firing, while Malala and Kailash Satyarthi won the Noble Peace Prize. This year Indians also showed the world that we can reach Mars at one go and we can do it cheaper than anyone could imagine. The Kashmir floods and militant attack on tribals in Assam villages were causes of concern but the Indian Army once again proved that India is prepared. Policy initiatives and reforms to boost growth were fast tracked along with environmental clearances and development missions were launched in campaign mode (Clean India, Make in India, Jan Dhan Yojna). With the Indian economy showing signs of higher growth in the years to come, India signed of 2014 in style.
