BOOK BARN Entry for Tiny LIbrary Competition by Volume Zero. A Library as a space to bring a community together in these hard tmes. Bringing access to education and opportunities to those in need.

Concept The Design draws inspiration from the practise of crop guarding where members of the family watches over their crops from stilted structures made from local materials. These are constructed right on the fields, and they end up being a space where the family spends a lot of time together.

The design attempts to do the same for whole farming communities, where they can spend a lot of time together. The parents can watch over their crops and the children get to read and socialize. The library hence hopes to bring everyone together and help them learn.

Wayanad, Kerala, India

The chosen site is in Wayand district of Kerala, India. It sits adjacent to paddy fields surrounded by various farming communities. There are lot of communities here that rely on farming, and often get left behind in terms of exposure to the outside world and all the opportunities it brings with it. The people spend most of the time in the fields, workind, socialising or just playing. Hence, the fields become an important interactive space.

• The simple rectangular plan allows the plan to be replicated easily in other similar sites and makes it flexible. • Simple double pitched roof style reminiscent of the early settlers

Sections Thatched roof with wooden/bamboo framework Coconut trunk stilts verandah

Features: • use of local materials, like coconut trunk for stilts, thatched roof, wooden or bamboo framework and walls. • Open of 2 sides providing sufficient light and cross ventilation. • Stilts provide safety from flooding, becomes a resting space for livestock and doubles as storage. • The open floor plan allows the building to be flexible in terms of usage, it can provide shelter, host small events, etc....

1. Main double height space, with 2 large double height book shelves. The open plan allows the space to be converted to a community gathering space 2. 2 mezzanine floor for youngsters, with informal seating. 3. Formal seating for readers. 4.Digital library section to keep everyone connected. 5. View from outside

TERRACE HOTEL A Three Star Hotel in Manyata Tech Park, Bangalore. The Design aims to be the least imposing by relating to the Human scale with a Terraced form that follows ones Line of sight. Also creating open green spaces on all floors.

The Courtyard in the center provides ample lighting to all interior spaces.
