CENTER FOR CAREER COUNSELING AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE, RAJKOT. site area: 5940 m2 built up area: 1210 m2 semester: 5 year: 2006
shroff road dharam cinema
The project aimed at the understanding of the institutional scale of the built form, where there is no specific user group and the building is for all people. The programme was to design career counseling and foreign language center in the busy area of rajkot called kasturba marg. There is an existing colonial building on site as strong reference.

idea and conception
conceptual sketches: how a virtual grid(shell)made, with respect to context and existing built form.
Visual grid [virtual grid] is made from cutting sections through existing structure and the surrounding (contextual) buildings. This helps to decide the height of each module. Some spaces are formed from the virtual grid. The module is derived by using different sections and height of the virtual grid. Planning of the institution done in such a way that no existing tree cut, they weave in the formation of courtyard.
conceptual modeling: respond to existing colonial structure as well as context.

The initial idea was to give a new identity or new perception of housing (flats) to people. Planning, structure and design evolved from basic concept. The idea is the housing has feel of individual residences at each floor with covered, semi- covered and open spaces and have big gathering space within the complex surrounded by residences.

idea and conception
conceptual sketch shows how higher plinth uses as a exhibition gallery.
Main design intention for the institution is design the movement of the building, the path itself unravel the values of heritage for the people during journey. One of the functions is virtual gallery, design evolved from this influential function. Overall planning and detailing gradually designed as per functional need and experience of different spaces through different frames of built form, like arches and building itself with the principles of perspective. Movement of building and perception of around spaces contains glimpses of heritage of Junagadh which have 2500 years of recorded history. It is a journey of history in modern building.

STATE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF CHHATTISGARH, RAIPUR. 2
site area: 3581300 m built up area: 49200 m2 semester: 10 year: 2010- 2012
RAIPUR NAYA RAIPUR
naya raipur Three key pillars for u n d e r s t a n d i n g architectural built form are social, political and economic aspects, synthesis of these three, with the prevailing art philosophy gives us a broader picture of architectural style and its significance with time. Understanding developed through this study will guide to derive a built form for ”Vidhan-Sabha” [legislative assembly] of Chhattisgarh state, India. ‘Chhattisgarh’ is a state in central India. A young state but an ancient land, referred to in ancient texts as “Dakshin Kosala”. This densely-forested tribaldominated state came into being in november 2000, as India’s 26th state, carved out of India’s largest state of Madhya Pradesh. One-third of the state population is tribal. The challenge in such context is to develop a design which balance Democratic Expression and Monumental identity to the Power Structure.

idea and conception Representation of Culture of People through Museum Distributory canal is the only e l e m e n t between public a n d administrative area. Water reflects both public and administrative system to each other.
The internal system of legislative assembly such as Assembly Secretariate and Ministry; is mainly Introverted except Debating Chamber and its peripheral functions. the design decision for this criteria is that- the building is express Introvertness based on system criteria and Environmental aspects through less outside openings, jali and cavity walls. these elements designed in such a way that the expression of building remain monumental and iconic. the front side of the building opens up for representation of democracy. Public access from the site to legislative assembly building is not axial or central [which gives building a monarchical or religious monumentality], but access way is beside the center to respond democratic system.
Plinth as an element to express power or dominance. In democratic system public structure should dominate the administrative structure. Raised plinth in different manner represents public realm influence the political realm.
Expression of democracy through screen of north facade Screen works as a facade treatment and the seen through s c r e e n i s reflection of dominant public realm and people.
idea and conception
idea of construction designs spaces with great rhythmic experience.
Here the system is based upon the federal p a r l i a m e n t a r y constitutional republic-it is almost represent democracy. The central idea is to give equal importance to public and political structure as the administration can be grown on the base of public [referential comparison of public and administrative domain], it is the administrative cycle which gives equal importance to public and government. The museum is proposed based on the comparison of : 1. Cultural representation for public realm. 2. Representation of legislation for political realm.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION: STEEL STRUCTURE semester: 5 year: 2006
In this exercise i explored steel as a building material. Program demanded a high rise building of 25 floors whose main elements would be made of steel, walls flooring could be made from a different material
braces and tension wire are there for mainly rotational forces and as per structural need of steel building.

THE BAT: A BIO-TENSEGRITY CONCEPTION semester: 8 year: 2008
Tensegrity describes a closed structural system composed of a set of three or more elongate compression struts within a network of tension tendons, the combined parts mutually supportive in such a way that the struts do not touch one another, but press outwardly against nodal points in the tension network to form a firm, triangulated, prestressed, tension and compression unit. “Its mystic composition is the prime reason for tensegrity to be used as artistic model in architecture Taking above sentence as a challenge I found some reasons that can extrude the concept of tensegrity from the plane of sculpture to the space of architecture. Architectural possibilities: bus stop, dome, sculptures, stair cabin, space frame, non structural column.
bio-tensegrity conception and modeling
Biological structures such as muscles, bones, fascia, ligaments and tendons, or rigid and elastic cell membranes, are made strong by the unison of t e n s i o n e d a n d compressed parts. The muscular-skeletal system is a synergy of muscle and bone. The muscles and connective tissues provide continuous pull and the bones present the d i s c o n t i n u o u s compression. Aim was to understand tensegrity as 1 closed system (dome) 2 uniaxial system (spine) 3 biaxial/planner system (space frame) Manifestation of tensegrity bat: In bat all three systems could be found i.e. Closed, uniaxial and biaxial. The challenge lies in merging the three systems and therefore create a multi faceted form, which individually can itself be structural systems. head- sphere spine- column wings- space frame
THE DOME: SUN-DRIED BRICKS AND MUD MORTAR, IPSA, RAJKOT. year: 2008
The sun dried bricks were used in this experiment of masonry dome. The is to be made with corbeling and without scaffolding. During the process while twisting the column different interesting arch forms emerged, Which collaboratively participated in transferring the thrust to the ground.

The project is to execute main load bearing stone wall of a composite structure. Every stone and every joint of the wall constructed as per basic rules with some modification of mix rubble masonry [random and coursed]. Some details such as inclined penetration of basalt stone details designed and crafted from 1:1 scale drawings with the help of skilled worker Hari bapa and sculptor Osman bhai.
