Welcome
The real treasure of the Incas. Peru is an inexhaustible source of inspiration due to its culture, its people, natural wealth, and its wonders that never cease to amaze the world. Peru’s in style - we believe Peru feels it since it not only nourishes with inspiration, but because it offers the best and finest ALPACA wool or natural fiber, with which it is possible to set trends in any season. Welcome to PERU FASHION NIGHT IN WASHINGTON DC, which will showcase the great attractions of this Andean llama wool, considered one of the finest and softest fibers the world. It can be seen

in clothes specially designed for this event by dedicated companies from the Cusco region, considered one of the major production centers of alpaca wool in Peru. This initiative by BIZ USA PERU & AMERICAS combines the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) and Peruvian entrepreneurs themselves, in order to create opportunities and scenarios for the commercialization of alpaca apparel in the United States. PERU FASHION NIGHT is one of the doors that opens to the large American market, but the task for the positioning of alpaca fiber is difficult, which is why this event shall take place in the context of a trade mission by prospecting Cuscan producers – under the Cusco Textile Export House - for business conferences and strategy meetings with commercial agents both in Washington and New York. BIZ USA PERU & AMERICAS continues to promote these activities in order to promote the emergence of more successful enterprises in alpaca, eager to conquer new markets, promoting directly or indirectly the improvement of the supply chain that is generated around this natural resource.

The Cusco Textile Export House (CATEX Cusco) was created February 20th, 2011 after the initiative of a group of micro-enterprises in the region, in order to seek international markets for their products made from alpaca fiber. It is the first Productive MSE Chamber from Peru to be an active partner of PERUCÁMARAS. One of the main objectives of the institution, currently chaired by Ronald Garcia Castelo, is to develop the textile industry in the Cusco region, bring back the role it held up to in the sixties, an outstanding period, thanks to the efforts of emblematic factories like Textil Lucre, Marangani, Huascar, La Estrella and Urcos, among others, which made Cusco the main textile capital of Peru. Today CATEX Cusco’s proposal is to industrialize the Alpaca fiber and not sell the fiber wholesale, but instead sell value-added products. It also aims to develop the alpaca productive chain, for which it has initiated the Project Promo Alpaca, with the signing of an interagency cooperation agreement with BIZ USA - Peru and participating, under the agreement, in the trade mission Peru Fashion Night in Washington DC, New York, New Jersey and all of the United States. The Cusco Textile Export House also drives the proposal “SME Designers for the world”, so that each small business can have its own associated designer capable of developing products that meet the demands of international fashion. Proof of the success of this exciting initiative has been the consolidation of Cuscan fashion designers Varignia Garcia Araujo (Inkamoda Peru SRL.) and Grethel Gonzales Sierra (Caryluis Artesanias EIRL) on catwalks abroad; and the growth of young talents like Monica Mansilla, Flor de Maria Choqueluque, Natali Perez, and Fernanda Castillo.

Sierra Exportadora is connecting the Andean producers with the opportunities of the global market. However, they are not merely Andean products but added – value ones, for instance; if you sell potatoes or passion fruits, they have to be highly selected, clean and well packed. They have to be carefully branded. Beyond this thought of selling this basic raw material – the potatoes and passion fruits - one can transform them into potato chips, snacks or pulp of passion fruit. That is the way that the Andean producers are entering into a new era of industrialization, which represents, in many cases, a true engine of change for communities dedicated to ancestral productive activities such as farming alpacas, quinoa, the production of milk to a transformational working experience represented on alpaca sweaters, drinks, quinoa cookies, ripened cheese, etc. Almost a million of producers of the Andean region find unique opportunities due to the growing-capacity of production of the Andes. Sierra Exportadora analyses the market demands - with commercial intelligence - and brings together producers to this information because access to data is access to the world business. As part of the work of commercial intelligence, Sierra Exportadora could identify 10 Andean flagship products that have great potential for export: quinoa, ripened cheese, trout, berries, Hass avocado, rural tourism, tare, textiles & handicrafts, sheep and cattle. Today there are more profitable and sustainable business in the highlands – la Sierra – from agriculture, forest, clothing, aquaculture, to non-metallic mining and Andean art. Hand in hand with Andean producers, Sierra Exportadora is fully committed to take the challenge to produce competitively with the objective of integrating more products to the Andean Exportable Offer in Peru.
