ANA PALMA

I L L U S T R AT I O N

WHO AM I? I am a curious Visual Artist and illustrator driven by an idiosyncratic passion for art and in particular for drawing. Drawing is part of my skin, my flesh and my soul. I’m entire in each line, in each stain and they are permanently constructing and deconstructing me. CHAPTER I I was born in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) and after 15 days without name, my parents finally decided to call me Ana Palma. I have a BA Fine Art - Painting by the Faculty of Fine Art - University of Porto (20042008), and I have finished the degree in Madrid, under the ERASMUS programme. In 2008 I was awarded with the “Prémio de Pintura Fernando Castro” by Ateneu Comercial do Porto, which is awarded to the best student of the BA degree in Fine Arts- Painting. CHAPTER II I have started my career as an Art Teacher in 2008 and the following year I was admitted in the MA in Teaching in the University of Porto. After completing my MA dissertation in 2011, I was invited to write a scientific article for ERAS named “The Awakening of the Ductus in the Teaching and Practice of Drawing”. CHAPTER III Even though I had a solid career in Education, the possibility of moving to London arose as a challenge and a great opportunity to learn and evolve as a professional, particularly as an illustrator and artist. My thirst for culture, art and an old fascination in travelling and discovering, made me decide to start this chapter in London’s Indian Summer of 2015. What do you think about being part of the next chapter? Please consider my work, Thank you.

SELECTED WORKS My work is based on passions for subjects, objects, materials. The human figure and the natural world are unavoidable subjects, arising as a starting point for personal journeys to memories, emotions and symbolisms.

BLACK & WHITE

COLOUR

The result is a raw work, sometimes disturbing, which reveals a variety of external influences as well as internal battles and quests.

FULL COLOUR

The coherence of the whole is in the ‘ductus’ that emerges in each work as an integral part of the hatching and expresses a complete interior world.

COMISSIONS

MY WORK pierces me, surpasses me, DEFINES ME.
